“Second stop of the LA area day, right after stopping at Hollingshead’s so it had some big shoes to live up to. Upon entering I was left wondering if I was in the right spot. All of the beer is located in the cold fridges on the right side of the store. Spirits are mostly behind the counter and wine is in the middle, they outnumber beer approximately 3:1. Atmosphere was decent. I could feel the guy behind the counters eyes follow me around the store which was a little off putting. Service was much the same, he never once asked if I needed help and my only interaction with him was brief and to the point. Quality was pretty solid. I didn’t notice anything our of date so no problems there. Selection was good but nothing amazing. Plenty of national and international brands mixed with the normal regional ones, nothing overly rare or anything like that. Prices were typical for the area. Overall a decent bottle shop but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit it again.“

“Most definitely a nice place, but the selection isn’t at an impressive level. Lots of good beers though, and beers I hadn’t seen before, quite a few regular Belgians as well. A place I’d gladly visit again, but I don’t think it’s worth a detour. We were lucky to stop to find the address half a mile away, else I’d probably be a bit disappointed if we turned our car and drove miles to get there. But hay, it’s a a nice place anyway.“

“This insanely high place score is probably outdated as this beer store was good, but nowhere near as good as it’s #1 in the entire area place rating would suggest. Large selection, everything is fridged pretty much with some hard to find Stone beers that haven’t been for sale for a long time, mostly their 12oz collaboration bottles. They also had some older Unibroue anniversary beers going back to 15, 16, and 17. Other than that, it was a typical good local selection of the usual suspects. Ambiance is heavily lacking though. No real "staff" since it’s just a gas station like convenience store.“

“Forgot to rate this one a couple years back when I was visiting the area. Very inconspicuous from the outside. Looks like your run of the mill liquor store. Inside looks the same until you head to the cold boxes near the back. Tons of great bottles. Not too much that I can’t get in the northern part of the state, but I still walked out with several bottles that I was very excited about. The service was great… when I told the guy I was staying in a hotel nearby he gave me a really nice allagash glass for free… you know, so I can taste the beers in style. Awesome! Kind of reminds me of my local, Perry’s Liquor only without the high prices.“

“Had dinner and beer here as part of a bachelor party. The set up is pretty much exactly the same as T Phillips in La Verne (of course the La Verne location doesnt exist anymore). Beer list was pretty comparable and mediocre. Lots of taps but most of them uninteresting. They were out of the first three things I asked for. Food is all in large portions and reasonably priced for the shear quantity. Will have to stop back in at some point to see if they’re going the same route as the La Verne location was and Heroes still is (ie better beer on tap).“

“Jeez, didnt realize I hadnt rated this place yet. Been visiting since the guys at Stuffed Sandwich told me about it back in 2007.

Small liquor store that seems to sell more lotto tickets and cigarettes than anything else but they also have a half a dozen cooler doors with good beer in them. Stan is the guy to talk to if you want something. He can either order it for you or he’s hiding it in the back. This has been a blessing and a curse at the same time. Everyone now knows that you have to talk to Stan so people only go when he’s around and he’s started putting everything in the back which is kind of ridiculous. And I’ve told him that too. If you want to hold a couple bottles for friends/regulars thats fine but when all the sought after stuff is in the back no one that doesnt know to talk to Stan will think this place is worth shopping at.

Prices are high but no higher than most other places and for items that move quickly they are priced pretty evenly with the Bevmo down the street. Check it out when in the area, they’re nice people and occasionally pull out some neat and old stuff (old Firestone anniversaries, old Stone vintages, even the occasional vintage Russian River sour).

Edit: This is a tough one. Stan has always given me everything I’ve asked for. He’ll save stuff for me when ever I ask, which is awesome. My issue is more that if he’s not there all the good stuff isn’t available. Please put out the IPAs in the fridge for everyone. One consequence of having a lot more competition is that you won’t get swarmed every time you get a case of Pliny so there is no reason you can’t put most of it out for the public. For things like Temptation, Firestone Anniversaries, Cuvee de Tomme, etc, I can see (and greatly appreciate) holding some for regulars.“

“Medium-sized store in a small shopping center. Way out of town. Quite a drive to get there. And, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed.... but just a bit. Long rows of coolers filled with a decent and balanced selection of world beers, with an emphasis on West Coast brews. Good selection of glassware. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff (not sure if it was Stan or not). Good place for the area, but maybe not quite up to the level of its current rating. I think that perhaps locals may get special orders and other rare things that are not out on view for the walk-in customer.“

“Its funny, when this place opened I thought it was the best Bevmo around, but then that was probably in 2007 or so (right around the time that FW XI came out). Since then they havent expanded the beer selection much at all. That said, its still a nice store and its in a shopping center, conveniently across from both the Home Depot and the 24 Hour Fitness that I go to. I’ll occasionally poke my head in.

My major complaint was this one employee that used to work there (still might, not sure). He was kind of an ass. I’d ask for something and he’d give me this attitude when ever it was something they didnt carry. He’d tell me to go travel to get these beers that other stores in the area were getting (Alaskan Barleywine for example).“

“hmmmm maybe i missed something here. STan was working the day i was there and i asked him for some Kern River stuff-he brings back some Knee Deep bottle.....well it was nice of him to get something from the back of the store, so i bought it. turned out to be a decent beer. however, with that said, the selection here is good, but not great. he must keep all the really good stuff in the back. seemed kind of an old place to be all that great.“

“This BevMo is pretty close to my house, and it used to be a pretty solid one. Lately, however, they haven’t really been getting anything in terms of the special releases (or at least the staff I speak to have no idea what I’m talking about). This is a pretty standard BevMo, though. They’ve got a decent selection of imports (probably better than other BevMos in the area), but you’re better off paying Stan a few extra bucks at Lone Hill.“

“(Visited 03/2009): Stopped on a trip from Lynwood to Apple Valley. Had to call the store and got directions from Stan as I got turned around somehow. The store is off the 210 on Alosta/66. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall. Inside there is a great beer selection. Many regional brewers are represented such as Lost Abbey, Marin, Stone, Drake’s etc. There were also some beers from the my home midwestern region that I have not seen out west too often like Bell’s and Three Floyds. There is also a pretty good selection of imports from the UK, Belgium, Germany etc. As for the service, again the owner was kind enough to guide me to the store, and while we was not there the clerk put me on the phone with him *again* to make some recommendations on what to take back with me. Definitely the personal touch while not being there in person. Overall this store is a not so hidden gem that is worth a stop.“

I was not disappointed and have been several times in the last few weeks. The owner is passionate about his beer and has some really great stuff. Along with Blue Palms, Tony’s Darts, and Boneyard this is one of the best places to learn about beer in LA.“

“Visited the place around 4/26. I found this place via Ratebeer. Was looking for a beer store that had a nice selection of beers and this place did not disappoint! Stan was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about his beers. This is defintely a place I would go back to if I travel to Cali again. Definitely will give him advance notice for those difficult/hard to find beers. Thanks Stan for all the help! Update: Visited the place in late April. They had a lot less beers than the previous year. Not for sure why and didn’t ask. I wish they’d set up a website for their store so we can see an inventory list of their beers. Because of the lack of inventory and store website, I dropped the overall score.“

“Thanks to Hophead22 for recommending this place to me after complaining to him about my quest for a Taste of Three Floyds. I walked into the place ask Stan about if he has any Three Floyds, and he said no but he was nice enough to take my info down.I would say 6 months later i walk in to the place Stan somehow remembers me(second time ever being there) and tells me he has got Three Floyds in the back. I think this might be the best liquour store in SoCal.Seriously This place has some great rare beer.“

“My friend’s mom actually told me about this place as she knows that I’m a huge beer nerd. My first trip here was about a month ago, but I’ve already made several return trips. Great selection, especially some things that are almost impossible to find here in So Cal (some Russian River, Founders, Southern Tier, and DFH brews to name a few). Also, many Belgians and Trappist beers. A great selection of Lost Abbeys. The prices are not too bad, considering some of the beers available. Stan is a very friendly guy, good to talk to and quite helpful. I’ll continue to come here for beer.“

“One of the better Bevmo’s, but a cookie cutter of just about every other one I’ve visited. The last time I was there, the guys were helpful in finding me what I was looking for. The selection was quite nice, and I’m wondering if they are hip to Lone Hill, and thus stack their deck a bit. The prices are great, again beating Lone Hill. Overall, not bad.“

“An unassuming location near Glendora, CA. Lone Hill has a beer manager with a keen eye for gems of beers, and an even better one for procuring extra-rare stuffs. I found a very solid selection of RR, HotD, Lost Abbey, Alesmith, Stone, Allagash, etc. A decent selection of imports, but you can tell the focus of this place is on Cali micros. All in all, a pretty solid spot, and the prices are average. I’ll be back, though I would caution against driving over an hour to get here.“

“One of the best beer stores around. It’s funny that unless someone told you about it you probably wouldn’t know. It looks like a random liquor store from the outside, but once you walk in and see the crazy selection you will crap your pants. Stan the beer man is an awesome dude. I have been going there for a while now and he has hooked me up with a few freebies for spending so much money there. This is absolutely a must for beer enthusiasts. You wont find a better selection anywhere around. The closest thing I could compare it to is Bottleworks in Seattle, WA but a little smaller.“

“I did some research before a recent trip to Bakersfield. I decided that since I was flying into the area, I needed to check it out. The person with most of the beer knowledge wasn’t in, but the guy who was there helped me where he could, and told me when the other guy would be in. They had most of the normal Alesmith offerings, some FFF, Southern Tier, Hair of the Dog and a bunch of other great Cali brews that you can’t get anywhere around Tennessee. The prices were a bit high for what I’m used to, but the selection far outweighed the higher price. I will go back again on future trips.“

“Was in the area for a birthday party so I figured I’d stop in and check it out. There is a lot of beer here, no doubt. Maybe my expectations were too high, or Perhaps i’m spoiled, but I didn’t see anything here that I couldn’t find elsewhere. Beside a couple random Southern Tier beers, there wasn’t anything that can’t be bought at one of the better Bevmo’s. Maybe it was an off day, but I didn’t see any three floyds or Founders. Service was helpful and friendly. Prices were on the high side. I didn’t buy anything. If you’re in the area, definitely make a stop in here. However, I wouldn’t go out of my way to seek this place out.“

“After reading all these reviews I had to go there. Only a 40 mi drive but well worth it, am going to make it a monthly trip. Very, very nice selection of brews, FFF, Southern Tier, founders, Two Brothers, Great Lakes and some very nice Belgians. After drooling over the beers and making our choices, Stan the beer man went into the back and pulled out a few nice gems for us (inc. Dreadnaught!!!!) and totally outdid himself overall. Dropped a few freebies as we were walking out the door as well, class act. Definitally a must stop for any beer geek in the area (or even out of the area). We dropped 260.00 with no effort what so ever, so watch your budget. Once again thank you Stan, see you next month.“

“Best place for locals in LA (period). Not too exciting for midwesternes (as you guys get a good deal of the selection that makes this place special. I was lucky enought to talk to the main beer guy who got me several bottles from the back as well as threw in a free beer on the house, and a Stone 12 glass. For locals the have all Stone, all common Lost Abbey (including Judgement Day, Serpents and Inferno), they Have all Pizza Port (except sinners beers) down to Moonlit Sessions, They also have all non-barrel aged alesmith, and all Balast Point. They have a full range of Hair of the Dog, and Great Divide (common in Texas, but not out here). They also have DFH including 90, 60, Burton Baton and Rasin de EXTRA, and Palo Santo. Only RR out in the coolers was Damnation. The had all manners of Lambics including every oud beersel. They also had 3Floyds (3x of them) including 2008 Behemouth, Rabbid Rabbit, and Alpha King. They had Goose County, tons of Southern Tier, Great Lakes, and Founders. A thourghly amazing place, and well worth the drive. I will return. Great people working there.“

“Visited twice in the last few months. Spent over $150.00 the first time and $200.00 the second time on rarities (hard to find and vintage brews). I drove 35 miles one way to get there, so I guess that’s a good indication of how highly I hold this place in regard. Makes BevMo and the like look very sad in comparison. Minimart ambiance complete with lotto players and macro drinkers. Service really depends on who’s there. Selection is outstanding. No food to speak of, unless you want a candy bar. Overall, there isn’t much better to be found in southern California.“

“By far the best specialty store I have been to in the area. Right when I first got there, Stan, who I am assuming is the owner or something along that line, came up and started chatting about beers and what not. Very personable people at this store. A fine selection. Got a 22 of Gumballhead and Dreadnaught, and Pizza Port Imperial Stout, as well as a 6 pack of Hop Wallop. Fine selection of hard to find for this area beers, and although pretty pricey, I still feel that it is worth it to get some great beer. “If you live in the LA/OC area this is THE place to get your beer. We drove about 25 miles to get to this place, and it was well worth it. It will definitely be becoming a regular thing for us. We spent $244 at the place today! They have Dogfish Head, Pizza Port, Abbaye des Rocs, Three Floyds, St Bernardus, Russian River, (unfortunately no Westy hiding in the back (had to ask hehe)), Achel, and of course following that line-up you know they have Avery, Rogue, Stone, Ale Smith etc... The staff is HIGHLY knowledgeable, and EXTREMELY helpful. I feel like a schmuck for not getting their names, but the guy who was not the owner spent the entire time we were in the store (about a half hour) talking to us, and giving us his opinions on the various beers, as well as giving us the beer advocate ratings. Referred to us as Beer Brothers several times. It was a great experience. Highly recommended to any and all beer enthusiasts in the SoCal area. Oh, and the best head shop I have ever seen in my entire life is next door. Beautiful hookas, an amazing water pipe selection... I found my Mecca!“
