“Perhaps the most I’ve ever been impressed by a beer bar in SoCal - it’s definitely in the conversation. Some awesome UNUSUAL taps and bottles and really nice food. Super dark, kinda small, in a really cute old town storefront area that will remind you of Hayward (where The Bistro is in the Bay Area). I cannot wait to go back.“

“This is in the same location as the former Vinatero shop. The set up is largely the same--tasting bar and bottle shop. However, this place is much more bottle shop but they have 20-some taps.

A huge library-esque wall of beers. It looks impressive but it also seems kind of dumb that to get some of the beers you would have to climb up on a ladder to get them off the shelf. A handful of cooler doors on the opposite wall. The selection is really good. A lot of imports from all over Europe and some Asian offerings as well. A few selection Canadian offerings as well. Stuff from all over California including some obscure releases from the likes of Figueroa Mountain, Inland Empire, and Tahoe Mountain. Lots of Prairie. Probably a few gray market beers. Neat.

Draft list had mostly good though not necessarily unique beers. Got some stuff from Stone, Ballast Point, Rockmill, Tahoe Mountain, Victory...a handful of others I can’t recall.

They also have a little wine fridge in the corner with what seemed to be mostly Cantillon 375s that are "only for special cellar sales". Okay...“

“As the name implies, there’s a strong Belgian influence here. The draft list is pretty much all imported Belgian beers, though a couple German beers in the mix as well. Stuff like Affligem, Schneider, Kwak, La Fin du Monde...

Cool interior. Nice wood and red upholstery. Some interesting decor in the form of antler chandeliers.

Beers are mostly good (as mentioned previously), but they don’t have anything that you can’t get pretty much anywhere. Food was not bad either. Got a thing of garlic fries, but kind of expensive--a small order is $5 and a full order is $8. A bunch of entrees @ $12 and then some others that are more expensive.

Decent place, but it’s just going to be your standard Belgian beers. The food is probably worth it, though.“

Uptown Liquor (Beer Store)

“On the south end of Uptown Whittier, but really just a few blocks of walking from the real heart of it (and from where there are a number of other beer places).

It’s a pretty typical looking liquor store. The beer is in the back of the store and they have a number of cooler doors and a couple of shelves with beers as well. The selection is pretty standard. Plenty of San Diego and Orange County breweries, but stuff from up north like Lagunitas, Tahoe Mountain, etc. Nothing really out of the ordinary, same with the prices.

It’s one of the few places in the area that has a decent selection, so it’s not a bad option. But, it’s not as good as The Cellar up the street.“

Interesting place just down the street from the "downtown" area of Greenleaf. I found parking right up front though it’s a green curb so you can’t park here and walk all around town. Inside is a beer section in the back left and if you look up front while in the back of the store you’ll see another room, a wine cave of sorts. I didn’t look through the wines too much but I did scan through all the beers. They have half a dozen fridge doors dedicated to beer and a shelf with singles on it. I was surprised by the prices. Some were average but others were pretty good. They have Bigfoot singles for $2.25, which is cheaper than you’d get them by buying a 4-pack. Some of the goodies: Russian River Blind Pig, Ballast Point Sculpin, AleSmith IPA, and Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Cool place though I’m not from Whittier so I don’t know how often I’ll stop in.“

“Visited October 15, 2013.

This is right across the street from the Bottle Room which is nice. They have some neon signs in the window advertising various better beers but I didn’t see a ton of good stuff on tap. Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, and Drakes were all nice touches but the selection is better across the street. The atmosphere may be a little dive-y as mentioned but it’s comfortable and friendly. It is a little dark however, which is noticeable at 5pm when the sun is still up. The service was friendly and the bartender was splitting a big plate of nachos with a customer. The nachos looked pretty good but I didn’t order anything. I might poke my head in again if in Whittier again but I’ll probably spend my time across the street.“

“Never thought I’d go back to Whittier for anything, let alone good beer. Glad I went though. They have a couple dozen taps with mostly good stuff. Nothing super rare but all good stuff. They also have a lot of nice bottles including some that most places don’t have. The service wasn’t overly attentive but it was a busy time of day. The food was nice as well. I had the black and bleu burger. Now my only regret is that I didn’t visit all the other places in the immediate area.“

“Kind of a dive bar feel on the inside. Poorly lit, random signage and license plates, and such on the walls. Service was pretty decent, prices were okay on the beers and food. Good sized draft list, but nothing that you can’t really find at any other half decent beer place. But, Whittier isn’t really a big beer town, so it’s pretty good, all things considered. If you’re in the area, it could worth stopping and grabbing a beer.“

“by the look of the sign you’d think this place was going to be a dive but they actually have lots of great craft beer. cashier was very friendly. prices were okay. Every november they bring beers out of the cellar and put them on sale and it is amazing!“

“Cool bar/restaurant in downtown Whittier. Nice little patio outside, good decor/interior. Friendly staff, nice tap list, though a little high in terms of their prices. Didn’t eat here, but the food looked appealing. One of the few options as far as beer bars go in the area.“

“Pretty typical looking liquor store. Lots of beers to choose from, most are out on the shelves, but a handful of cooler doors, too. Lots of spirits to choose from. Prices are about average. I’ve never really had much interaction with the staff, but they always seem nice enough.“

“The description is exclatly how fourplayed said. I went on a lonely night. I was served right away and the bartender right away showed me the menu and described some of the details. Like which beers are special releases and so on. He also told me we have Negra Modelo but where trying to get rid of it cause we refuse to carry Macros, its only there cause we got it for Cinco De Mayo. Either way, all there othere taps where awsome, they had the locals, craftsman and eagle rock. Other cal brews like ballast point, and russian river. and a few outsiders like hair of the dog. For the most part it was all california taps. The food was good but not the best. Prices vary, some stuff is pricey but other things are actually priced pretty good. Overall, cool place.“

“Old School, rustic beer bar. pictures, license plates, beer posters all over the walls. Low lighting, Friendly Lunch time locals willing to have conversation and a few laughs..can’t complain! Service was fast and beer and food served quickly. Beertender knew her brews. Beer selection is a B 24+ taps and 30+ bottles. Belguims and good craft brews, lagunitas, stone, firestone walker with some run of the mill taps as well.Overall value was good. Had 2 x 16oz taps, lagunitas and firestone walker, with pastrami sandwich w/ NE spicy clam chowder $21 +. Overall, I would not turn down an invitation for lunch. Everyone should find something they like on the beer and food menu. Parking can be tough in this part of town, but the public park lots have ample room.“

“Uptown Whittier on West side of Greenleaf, just north of Philadelphia st. Parking on streets can be tough during peak hours. But, public parking lots are easily accessable. appxrx a 20’ x 50’ room in the old renovated area of uptown. Distress brick walls, dimly lit, dark woods, nice ambiance. several tables in the front patio entrance if you’d like to watch the people go by. Very good selection of taps and in the bottle brews. Very knowledgeable about their brews and willing to give you small samples before buying. The Food menu is interesting and very tasty. Overall a bit pricey, but there’s nothing else in this part of town with such a good selection. I’d say they’ll get a lot of the Whittier college kids in here and a more upscale crowd.“
