“Central City and Blackhawk look like movie sets thrown together in a hidden location in the mountains. Dostal Alley fits right in. The outside was fashioned to look like the late 1800s and the inside is dark, dingy and full of video gambling. The bartender was very friendly and was lamenting to me how she had gambled away her day’s wages. I’m sure this is a reoccurring thing. There are two levels to Dostal Alley. The bottom floor is quiet with just a few tables and a window through which to order pizza. Three or four rows of video slots are in the center of the room and a four stool bar with a tiny TV is tucked away in the corner. Upstairs is a larger bar with video poker and slots in the bartop, more games on the floor and no dining tables. I’m not much of a gambler and the whole ancient vibe with a handful of gambling addicts glued to their screens is kind of a downer. The positive points of Dostal Alley are that the beer and food is really cheap, I assume to keep clientele here gambling. And the red ale I drank was actually pretty good. There are only five taps though and very pedestrian in style: a red, an IPA, a stout, an American wheat and a mild. I guess if you were in town on a gambling trip this would have to be a stop.“

“Small brewpub in a small casino. Maybe doesn’t sparkle like new, but the service was very friendly. Bartender offered to let me try anything before buying. Think only five beers on tap. All beers were decent. If you want to sit and visit and have a cold one, this is the place in Central City. Did not try the food.“

“bit of an unpleasant, dark place to be inside of. thankfully they have an outdoor patio but it’s only a few wire-frame picnic tables adjacent to the parking lot. beer is ho-hum. slot machines inside for another of your vices.“

“After losing 300 bucks in poker game in blackhawk, pocket aces vs pocket kings guy got a king on the river, I decided to come here to nurse my wounds. Staff was friendly enough although and the place itself has kind of a old washed up gambler vibe. Only had 4 beers available, one of which was pretty good, one which was not bad, and the other two I didn’t really care for. Food is not offensive, but not good. I will say it is a great value, the food and beers were incredibly cheap (even free if you are at a slot machine). Overall I can recommend this place to visit if you want a bite and a beer while in central city / blackhawk, but it is not worth the trip alone.“

“The guy behind the bar was as friendly as anyone i’ve ever met, and he knew a lot about the history of the area. The town is really cool, the old buildings with small casinos and the ghost town down the road. Beer was decent though not great, and we didn’t try the food, though the pizza smelled great. It is pizza, after all... We had a great time.“

“So we had a good experience. Staff was missing when we entered, but a local filled the time. Staff was constantly with us - when he wasn’t doing the internal errands. Which was much of the time. Lots of talk about local history. Lots of info on the beer and brewpub. Passed a very good hour here. Helped that it was only the 2 of us upstairs with only the occasional local coming in and out.“

“Not much going on here as it is one of the smallest casinos in the area and the food is better elsewhere. Nonetheless, the beer is average yet they only had three beers available.“

“2 floor casino in an original old building. The brewery is about 10’x12’. Very friendly staff. Selection is average with about 5 beers, did’nt try rhe pizza. Not a bad value. Beats the hell out of those monster casinos in Blackhawk.“

“Central city is a neat town itself, that alone is worth the trip. The beer is not really worth the trip, not that it is offensive stuff but it just wasn’t anything to be excited about. I asked the bar keep about things and he said that a guy that retired from Coors is coming up and helping brew the house ales. At least that was the story 6 months ago. The place itself made me feel as if I were a cast member in a History channel movie about the old west. Anyhow if your passing by check it out. Just don’t go out of your way.“

“Amusing kinda place with slot/game machines in an adjoining room, kind of displacing feeling when the bar itself is pretty roughshod. I think the whole experience was mostly that of bemusement that such a tiny one-horse village has a working brewpub. I kept expecting to see a horse-and-carriage go riding by. Service was a little towards the surly end but not what I’d call rude.“

“Simple place in an old building on a neat street. Small town doesn’t seem to cater to a brewery. Therefore, beers seem to cater to the gambling tourists. Beers I tried were OK; one or two were decent, the others were forgettable. Rich history in that area really intrigues me. I wish there was more of a demand to warrant better and/or bigger beers. If I lived closer, I’d definitely stop by more often. It’s always fun to play video poker at the bar while sipping on a pint.“
