88 /100 Glamour Hoppe (Bar) VIA CARCACI, 11 Another Wow in Catania. Got to give this bar the same rating as Mosaik. Excellent beer selection plus food. Unique Italian beer in tap and a great bottle selection of Italian strong and BA beer. Worth multiple visits |
94 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 Wow. What a gem. Taps and bottles from unique Italian breweries to one off Belgians and other Northern EU craft. Very knowledgeable owner and staff. Definitely worth multiple visits |
66 /100 Buatta (Bar) VIA CROCIFERI 45 Pretty much a dinner spot now, a little off the tourist track. Six taps and about 8 bottles. Primarily a select of beers from Sicilian brewery Alveria. Worth a stop for these beers if in the area.
Only open in the evening; starting at 6:30 |
82 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 This is one of the top spots if not the top in Catania along with Glamour. Only downside to both is you have to wait until they open 😸 |
78 /100 Glamour Hoppe (Bar) VIA CARCACI, 11 For some reason I saved this for last and wish I hadn’t! They had a far better selection than Black Sheep and were on par with Mosaik. So if you’ve limited time in Catania, I would put this and Mosaik on the must-hit list. Both have rotating tap list and bottles and cans to go or drink in house. Both have emphasis but not exclusivity on Italian and/or Sicilian products.

88 /100 Glamour Hoppe (Bar) VIA CARCACI, 11 This place is amazing, we were really happy to find it in a small street just off the main corso. Taplist of 11 beers with 5-6 Sicilian beers (Yblon, Epica, etc.). Kind staff who are happy to help choosing. Nice music, local guests and a really friendly atmosphere altogether. Worth returning here on multiple occasions as the tap changes can reveal more variety of Sicilian beers. |
70 /100 La Mafaldineira (Restaurant) ETNEA 199 This is a restaurant on one of the main streets of city center. They have good food and wine selection as well but what is more interesting is that they serve beers which are brewed near Catania (Fratelli Birrafondai). It does not have a long list of craft beers but a steady variety of local beers to go with the food and atmosphere. |
78 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 Nice place, local craft beers. |
76 /100 Birretteria (Beer Store) VIA VITTORIO EMANUELE 91 A quite small bottle shop with 6 draught beers, though they do not always keep beer on all 6 lines. The service is friendly and welcoming. You may purchase cold bottles and cans for onsite consumption in clear plastic cups. The selection is half European macro lagers and half varied micro brewery selections. |
76 /100 Buatta (Bar) VIA CROCIFERI 45 This cozy gastropub features 3 taps and around 18 - 24 bottles, mostly Italian craft ales. The beer menu was out-dated but the server always had a fresh suggestion. I tried the mixed vegetable appetizer and a dish off of the daily menu. Both featured grilled pumpkin and were very tasty. The kitchen closes in the mid-afternoon before resuming service later in the evening. The owner and her staff are very welcoming and free to help us non-Italian speakers. |
82 /100 Water & Beer (Beer Store) VIA VERONA 19/F This beer distributor opens its doors to thirsty patrons and allows you to walk the short aisles perusing their beer. They offer several Lambic beers from Cantillon & Drie Fonteinen, among others, as well as Italian, British, and American craft beers. The prices are reasonable. The place is a little hard to find - you have to enter a lot behind the grocery store and follow this to the left where you find a sign and door/loading dock of sorts. |
82 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 This place boasts one of the best beer selections on Sicily and the owner, Dorothea, is keen on selecting her beers. They offer several Italian craft beers along with several German selections. They bottle list is varied. We enjoyed excellent service and were able to meet the Blakstoc Cider owner during our visit. They offer a small food selection, though we had just finished a rather large pizza elsewhere so we did not eat anything here. The seating is all indoors and the smokers gather in the doorway and onto the sidewalk, so you do have to weave through this to get inside. |
78 /100 Akkademia della birra (Bar) PIAZZA LODOVICO ARIOSTO 18 Unexpected but very welcome discovery! This bar is not on the beaten tourist track but worth a diversion. Not huge selection but well chosen. |
80 /100 Buatta (Bar) VIA CROCIFERI 45 Modern and cosy small bar with 3 refreshing Italian crafts on tap (Alveria). It’s opend from 12 pm what is a huge advantage and unique in Italy, when you’re thirsty during sightseeing ;) There is no excause to not pop in for a pint! |
86 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 Cosy beer spot, just a half km from the main center pavement. A number of Italian crafts on tap, mostly APA, IPA and lagers. Noisy inside and really lacs some place outside. Still the best craft place in Catania. |
80 /100 Birretteria (Beer Store) VIA VITTORIO EMANUELE 91 This place not exactly a bar, the action mostly happens on the street outside! But considering it’s sicily that is not exactly a bad thing! Very lively and a surprisingly good selection, Italian brewers most heavily represented of course. Well worth a visit. |
88 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 Super little bar with a very large and diverse selection. Heavy on Italian craft beer of course, but also a surprisingly good selection of Lambics, and some well chosen American beers. Really nice ambience, although it is often quite quiet (which is a pity, more people need to go here!) |
78 /100 Buatta (Bar) VIA CROCIFERI 45 Nice place, good beer
The beer is not totally properly served, not enaugh beer in the glass... |
92 /100 Mosaik (Bar) VIA MUSUMECI 60 Absolutely amazing place every beer-lover should visit while in Catania. More than decent choice of bottled Italian beers and 5-6 taps, featuring local (Sicilian) ones, but also great selection of some quirky foreign beers. Not to mention great and hospitable owners. Cash only. |
86 /100 Buatta (Bar) VIA CROCIFERI 45 Amazing small place with slow-food concept and decent selection of Italian and foreign beers. Impressive minimalistic design, amiable staff, but be sure to come early or book a table, because place is rather small and popular. Great spot in Catania |
82 /100 Water & Beer (Beer Store) VIA VERONA 19/F Nice take-away beer shop with nice selection of local (Sicilian), Italian and foreign beers of different styles. Prices are reasonable. They accept credit cards, which is great bonus as well. Must visit for beer aficionados. |
