74 /100 Cafe Acadien (Restaurant) 168, RUE BEAUBASSIN A BONAVENTURE On the wharf in Bonaventure, near the lighthouse. You can arrive by boat, by car, or according to their website, by zeppelin. My blimp was in the shop, so I arrived by car, and the massive parking lot was free on a Sunday; but there were gates, so you might have to pay at other times. I sat on the front porch and watched the boats dock for lunch, but the back deck is larger, and so are the boats. Four beers on tap, all Pit Caribou. But the best bit was the cooler just to your right as you walk in the door, next to the bar: at least five beers each from Frontibus, Naufrageur, Malbord, La Farbrique and A l'Abri de la Tempete; you choose your bottle and the bar lady opens it and gives you a glass. I'm guessing you can take unopened bottles to go, but I don't know that for sure. They offer four different meals a day, depending on the time; and although I arrived at the "light dinner" time they gave me the breakfast, lunch and brunch menus, so I had a massive amount of choice. Mostly seafood, as you can imagine. I chose fresh local smelt because when I trained as a surgeon, one of our staff, an Air Force Academy grad, when a patient died he said they "went belly up like a smelt." So I've always wanted to eat one, and now I have. The fish that is. But I digress. Solid place for seafood and beer. |
