“Visited on a saturday afternoon (may 2nd 2015. Located near Cidrerie du Minot and not too far from La Face Cachée de la Pomme and Vergers Philion.

Ambiance: Very small tasting room / boutique in a wooden barn.

Service: The owner was super friendly and took at least 30 minutes to discuss with us about their products and their business in general. Very interesting.

Selection: There 3 rateable products, a perry mistelle and a few ice wines. Everything is available "to go" and the ice perrys were all available for tasting in small flights.

Food: n/a

Value: Tasting flights (a bit less than 1/2 oz were free). Bottles to go are at a similar price than in SAQ stores. It’s pricey, but it’s also high quality.

Overall: A fun place to visit. Not one that I would make the trip for because all their rateable products are available in SAQ stores, but definitely worth a stop as a part of a visit of Hemmingford cideries.

“Visited on a saturday afternoon (may 2nd 2015).

Ambiance: Decent sized tasting room with a nice view on their barrels (used for their winter harvest ice cider and their Doré). Interesting informative signs.

Service: It wasn’t the owner, but the employee who was there was really friendly and knew enough about the products, but lacked a bit of info when asked about the apple varieties used in their ciders/ice ciders.

Selection: A large range of products including crémant, sparkling ciders, brut, ice ciders made through cryocencentration and cryoexctraction (a few vintages available) and an apperitive cider. All available to go or for a free tasting (small 1/2 oz samples). The "Récolte d’Hiver 2010" I tried was unreal and I bought a few bottles.

Food: n/a

Value: Flights are free (but small of course). Prices of the bottles available to go are very similar to those in SAQ stores. Prices of their products high end products are generally high, like almost all the ice ciders, but they are still quite a bit lower than La Face Cachée de la Pomme (for exemple the Winter Harvest was 40$/375 ml at Minot and 50$/375 ml at LFC).

Overall: Definitely worth a visit if you go in that area, but like it has been said before most of their products are available either at SAQ stores or at Le Marché des Saveurs. I will come back to visit the orchard.

Comments: This is similar to La Face in that they have a bigger "to do" about their tasting room with signs around Hemmingford and a large lot. Came in here and we were the only ones like in the other two cideries. The big difference here is that Du Minot makes A LOT of ciders of all types. The woman helping us guided us through their portfolio and let us try just about everything they offered from bottle pours including pours of specialties and old vintages. Lots of fun. However, most of what they make is okay and not stellar and almost everything can be bought at Marche des Saveurs in Jean Talon Market in Montreal. So go here for the experience, not for specific bottle hunting. I loved trying the ciders and the staff was hilarious and good spirited though possibly already drunk. “

Comments: This is a great place to really learn out the ice cider process and tour the orchard as this is much less visited compared to La Facee Cachee and Cidrerie du Minot. They don’t have big signs on the side roads like the others. This is truly a ring the bell and have the farmer put down his equipment to come talk with you. Only two bottles available, the Gaia and the Friga. One is an ice cider and one is an ice perry. They are very good, but they are for sale at the Marche des Saveurs in Jean Talon Market Montreal, but that is the only store that carries them. Here you can also buy half bottles not for sale at Jean Talon. Quality is good to very good and the experience is amazing, though if you are only in it to taste ice ciders, this one only has two to sample and you get a very teeny tiny pour in a paper cup. So it is very different from La Face with a full tasting indoors with a glass snifter. Still, I loved the experience as it was akin to cider touring in Normandy and Brittany France. “

“Stopped in with my wife on our way to Vermont from Montreal. Wooden barn-type building with a small tasting room. We too had to call for someone to help us out and when he showed up, was incredibly kind and allowed us to try almost everything (no ice wine). Prices are on the high side but it’s a superior product, imo, to the ciders. Definitely recommend stopping in.“

“Another stop with my wife, Andy, and Max during another trip to Hill Farmstead where we went up a day early and went through Canada to stop at a few cideries and spend a night in Montreal. Salamandre is another gorgeous location in Hemmingford, and if you have the time I’d advise stopping at them, du Minot, la Face, and Philion all in one day as they’re very close to each other. Like a lot of the cideries they are small and do not keep a lot of extra employees, particularly someone on staff just to run a tasting room that may not see many (or any) people during a given day. They do have a beautiful tasting room however. When we arrived there was a walky-talky hanging on the closed door to the tasting room and after following the direction to use it to call up someone who must have been out working elsewhere on the property, someone came. We sampled a number of the products they have available. The perry is free to taste but for a couple of the wines they do charge a small (and for the quality, very reasonable) fee. We gladly paid for samples and bought a few bottles as well. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.“

“Stopped in here with my wife, Andy, and Max during a trip to Hill Farmstead that included a day in Montreal and a few cidery stops. To start, this place is absolutely gorgeous. We pulled up a long dirt road and passed the mother of the cider maker on the side of the road who directed us where to go. Her husband was mowing a field and motioned to go on in to the tasting room, and he came in to meet us. He was also the one who got us started on a tasting. After a few minutes his son who is now the cider maker came in and joined us. Leave out how amazing the ice cider and ice perry are, Philion had already won us over with their hospitality and gorgeous views. The cider and perry themselves are excellent as well. Given the proximity to a couple of other Hemmingford cideries, it’s certainly worth a stop. You can visit here, du Minot, La Face, and Domaine Salamndre all within a few miles of each other and have a lovely afternoon.“

“Stopped in here after a stop at La Face. The feel of the main room reminds me a whole lot of a winery I used to work in as teenager. I’m not sure if they do tastings here or not as we stopped in and had to wait a while for someone to even come out of the back to acknowledge that we were there. Seemed to be a busy day production wise as all of the lines that we could see from the tasting room area seemed to be running. Nice enough selection of bottles of theirs though, including a few things I had not seen anywhere else. Worth a stop at least though if you’re already in the area for La Face.“

“A cool little spot just a short drive from Vergers du Minot and La Face Cachee. The place was deserted when we got there, but the owner had placed a small walkie-talkie by the door that said to push for service - I guess I would do the same if I lived next door to where I worked. The place is named for a small endangered salamander that lives in the region. They are currently making their ice perry from apples purchased from a farm close by, but their own orchards should be coming on line shortly. They make two versions of pear cider, one containing only juice from single type of pear (bosc) and the other a blend of bosc and another pear that I can’t recall. They also sell a still white wine made from vidal grapes and that same juice is also made into a delicious ice wine. They’ve got a great little place here and they were so friendly that I can only wish them the best.“

“Tough to find much to say about this. They refused to pour us samples when we entered, and declined to give us a tour. I think he thought we were just a bunch of punk kids going in for some free booze. When I asked if I could buy a few bottles he actually said oh, you’re going to buy something? In retrospect I probably shouldn’t have even given them the money that I did, considering the complete lack of respect he paid us. I won’t be returning here next time I make my way up to Montreal.“

“A common stop for me during the “Cidre et Crêpes” (they make awesome pancakes, the grandmother is from Bretagne or Normandy, I can’t remember) weekend in May, it’s only about a mile or two from Face Cachée de la pomme. They specialize in bubbly ciders. The little museum outside in the barn is awesome, with an old French press and lots of other oddball equipment from the past. Inside is a large tasting room with a view of the oak barrels behind an iron fence. The tons of pointless awards hung on the walls like x-mas stockings. They can give you a quick tour if it isn’t too busy, their modern bottling line and apple press are quite impressive. Free samples, most selections are hard to find elsewhere and generally sold at a reasonable price. The guy usually doing the pouring has a strange wry sense of humor, but he’s actually a nice dude.“

“Was referred to this place by one of my brother’s colleagues. She supposedly is a fan of "good" beer and said they had some on tap, so we figured we’d check it out. WHen you walk in, it is a dark dining area with the bar directly to the back. The bar boasts about a dozen stools to match the dozen taps. The taps are mainly McAulsan beers, including the St. Ambroise Oatmeal stout. They also had some sort of Wit there as well as Liefman’s Raspberry amongst others. This is a pretty eclectic and interesting mix of beers from an unassuming place. The bartender called the Wit "Corona-like". I had the Russian Chicken sandwich, which was very large and very good. The fries were also very good. Prices were average and I would go back to this place. Definitely worth the visit if you are in town visitng the cideries. ----Updated----after nearly 4 months, the taps have not really changed at all, which was disturbing. I don’t think the turnover is really good. Had the turkey wrap, which was satisfying. The fries are still great! Also, the employees are perfectly bilingual, which is nice.“
