64 /100 Queen Edith (Milton) (Bar) WULFSTAN WAY, This proved to be a friendly estate type pub in a residential area of Cambridge / Cherry Hinton. It has an odd feeling to it, it’s certainly not a pubby type place despite the number of taps in use, clean and tidy, obviously pretty new. Bright, comfortable with 2 rooms although the bar to the left is most popular. Odd but worth a visit.. |
70 /100 Cambridge Wine Merchants - Cherry Hinton Road (Beer Store) 163 CHERRY HINTON ROAD, The quietest and the most pleasant of the CWM branches I’ve visited thus far, the Cherry Hinton Road branch is some way out of the city centre (although not in Cherry HInton proper but between the two). This area has few pubs, and even fewer beer pubs, so a shop that carries decent craft beer is a godsend. Cambridge Wine Merchants shops offer beers from a limited number of breweries, and this one concentrates mostly on Thornbridge and Moor, with a bit of Kernel, Wiper and True, and various local-ish breweries such as Oakham and Elgoods. The events are excellent for an area that is far less convivial than Cambridge proper. You can drink in for a fairly steep corkage fee. Certainly worth checking out if in the area. |
70 /100 Queen Edith (Milton) (Bar) WULFSTAN WAY, New pub in a residential area not far from Cherry Hinton. Doesn’t have that ’pub’ feel, but I reckon that takes time. Eight ales - three guests alongside five Milton beers. These used to be complimented by a very small but interesting bottle selection over and above what the other Milton’s pubs seems to offer (e.g. De Molen, Orval, Kaapse) but these seem to have disappeared, watch this space. Other than that, the offerings are very similar to those found in the Devonshire and the Haymakers, so you may not want to make a special trip out. But for those of us living on the beer-starved Cambridge/Cherry Hinton border, this is a godsend. |
64 /100 Co. (Restaurant) 15 HIGH ST, Nice little upmarket healthy-ish but with beer cafe. Has changed a fair bit since it was known as ’Rhode Island’ but the basic premise is the same. Great coffee and an ever-changing menu. They have pared down their bottle selection, offering only about 7 now. However they have 2 beers on tap (Neck Oil and Thornbridge Lukas on my visit) with room for more. You’ll likely find something local, so if you are in the area it may be tick-worthy. |
82 /100 Co. (Restaurant) 15 HIGH ST, Visited as part of a very large party from work. Decor, based on comic book art, was perfect, food was excellent and the beer selection - mostly bottled American beers, but also some British and ciders too. Wish I lived closer! |
