Green Man (Bar)

“It’s a really restauranty pub, this. Olde-worlde yet very ’renovated’, the Green Man gives you a slightly more formal experience than the spit and sawdust of Mill Road. Normally the beer selection wouldn’t merit inclusion - a few well-loved casks such as Ghost Ship and no keg to speak of - but there’s three bottles from Siren’s core range (Yu Lu, Soundwave, Liquid Mistress) as well as a few less well-known bottles of beer and cider. I plump for a Spanish lager I’ve not seen before and pay a not impossible £3.85. Barman asks if I want a glass, I say yes and get a half-pint glass with three chunks of ice. ’Could I have it without ice please?’ ’Certainly... [pause, slightly incredulous look] no ice at all?’ So there’s work to be done. But it’s not bad.“

“Quite expensive ’Local Hero’ pub in Trumpington. A bit more ’pubby’ than the nearby Green Man, it’s still a trifle standoffish but worth looking around at some of the local tidbits of information on the walls. Hudson’s boasts eight handpumps, but on my Tuesday visit two were not in action, and further two were dedicated to Greene King beers (St Edmunds and the house beer). The other four carried beers from Wadworth, Norfolk Brewhouse, Salopian and Three Blind Mice. Keg and packaged beers not particularly interesting. So it’s a decent place to stop, and your best bet in Trumpington.“
