84 /100 Salty Dog (Bar) 21 HIGH STREET on a par with many good beer bars round the world ... It is what it is. What makes it special for this neck of the woods is the beer selections. No filler here, special pourings etc. They clearly know what they're doing :-) Downside ... It looks like it's shut when it's open! |
36 /100 Salthouse NW Bar (Bar) UNIT 1 HAYHURST QUAY Feels more like a coffee shop. The beer selection was quite poor and in bad condition. Needs to focus on bottle/canned beer as it's not turning over enough cadk and keg. The keg ale I had tasted off. Beware house beer is just rebranded Tetleys |
72 /100 Salty Dog (Bar) 21 HIGH STREET New pub in Northwich. Good selection of real ales and craft keg. Reasonable bottle selection. Live music at weekends when it can get very busy. A bit spit and sawdust with old film and punk rock posters on the walls. A very welcome addition to the Northwich drinking scene |
28 /100 Green Dragon (Bar) 169 WITTON STREET Shit pub in Northwich, which now does a couple of real ales, always the first stop on our Northwich pub crawl |
80 /100 Penny Black (JDW) (Bar) 110 WITTON STREET Decent ’Spoons in a tudor style buidling. Large open plan inside but atmosphere was decent. 10 ales on, plus a cider on my visit. Ales were in good order. Plenty of parking on the Witton Chimes car park in Venables Road just round the corner. |
54 /100 Bowling Green (Bar) 164 LONDON ROAD Traditional pub dating from the 17th Century, nice enough place for a quiet pint, usually has 2-3 real ales on cask, with 1 usually a guest |
62 /100 Penny Black (JDW) (Bar) 110 WITTON STREET Better than average Wetherspoons. Good range of real ales as you would expect, plus a selection of bottled beers. |
66 /100 Penny Black (JDW) (Bar) 110 WITTON STREET Located at one end the main shopping street this Wetherspoon occupies a tudor style building in the town centre. Inside it is less period than the exterior makes it look and the seating towards the front of the building is slightly more impersonal than those in the more open bar area towards the rear. At the rear there is also an outside area. Ales are on two rows of pumps. |
40 /100 Cheshire Tandoori (Restaurant) 45-47 CHESTER ROAD Nice Indian restaurant food is of fairly good quality, atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried, beer range is typical Indian beers, Cobra, Kingfisher etc |
22 /100 Swinging Witch (Bar) 3 CROWN STREET A really nicely refurbished pub spoilt by the choice of manager who deliberately turns his back on you when you go to the bar, refused to put my beer in a straight glass, accused me of being ’mean’ when I asked him to top up my short-measured glass and answered "yes" when I asked him "are you unhappy about topping beer up?"..... |
32 /100 Home Bargains (Grocery Store) 26/28 WITTON STREET Cheapo supermarket, some good bottled ales available but not many |
68 /100 Swinging Witch (Bar) 3 CROWN STREET Use to be known as the Crown, the the Swinging Witch (aka the Swinging Fist) then back to the Crown before closing, now open again as the Swinging Witch and taken over by a company specialising in re-opening closed down pubs, they’ve done a good job, beer is astonishingly cheap, lots of sports TV screens and 3 real ales on hand pumps including a guest ale, the landlord also says that he does free chips and pies etc when the football is on |
44 /100 Witton Chimes (Bar) 122 WITTON STREET Biker and rocker pub in Northwich town centre, has rock nights and bands on sometimes and a rock jukebox, not a great pub though |
64 /100 Quayside (Bar) 129 WITTON STREET Fairly typical town centre trendy pub, visited on a fri night, loud music, age range is 18-24 generally, usual range of beers and lagers, a good place to finish a night out in Northwich |
70 /100 Penny Black (JDW) (Bar) 110 WITTON STREET Good selection of real ales and bottled European stuff, food not brilliant but cheap, atmosphere is somewhat lacking due to the layout which can resemble a large echoing hall |
68 /100 Penny Black (JDW) (Bar) 110 WITTON STREET Not too bad at all as far as JDW establishments go. The landlord is very pro real ale and ordered in 2 of each cask during the last JDW beer festival. Supports the local breweries too with often 1 or 2 handpumps featuring such brews. Food very reasonable here too. Northwich is a bit of a beer desert in general but this place does at least make a visit into town worthwhile every now and again. |
