60 /100 MANCHESTER ROAD
“On the Manchester Road not too far a drive away from the Motorway Junction on the North side of the Thelwall Viaduct, this is a large self-standing J.W. Lees pub with a large open plan area around an 'L' shape bar, although a few posts holding up the building do create defined areas. It has a plush decor that's had some money put into it in recent years, serves food, is family friendly and you'll probably find the latest seasonal ale from this Manchester brewery on one its hand pumps. I did! There's ample parking here and outdoor seating too.“

54 /100 MANCHESTER ROAD
“Midway between the M6 Junction 21 and the town centre on the Manchester Road, you will have to leave the main road to get to this pub just after the first major set of traffic from the motorway. The building in its own grounds is a fine example of a mid 20th century built public house, dark brick, with a symmetry to it having two doors flanking a central service area in a main room that looks out into the car park. The lion share of seats are either side of this with walls partly partitioning a generally open plan pub. It now focusses very much on pub grub and seems popular for it, not least because its family friendly with a huge purposely designed play area in the rear garden. I’m a little surprised to have found this place added, as it’s not the most obvious of pubs to head for, but at the same time it’s nice that it has been as it holds one of my first ever pub memories as I remember playing in the garden myself back in the early 80’s! There are 4 hand pumps which carry regional regular ales that most people know very well.“
