74 /100 STAR INN,
“Still a fine pub. Six of the twelve hand pumps in use today (30 October) with four Penzance beers and two guests. The beer board tells you what’s coming next and the guest beer count - currently 2434 different beers. Welcoming and friendly, it’s a huge building. Bar service but no sitting or standing at the bar at present.“

“Visited on 11th August 2017. Large, popular freehouse on main road out of Penzance, bus stop is right out front conveniently. Decor is a little lived in but makes it feel like a nice old locals boozer, beer range is mostly from Penzance brewery plus a couple of guests. Quality was OK, some better than others, did pick up some new beers. Prices and service decent enough. Handy stop off.“

66 /100 STAR INN,
“The Star Inn is a traditional freehouse and home of the Penzance Brewery. It is located in Crowlas, which is a 10 minute drive from Penzance, with parking directly behind the pub. They have up to 9 cask ales on offer with the daily range shown on the chalk board to the right of the bar. On our visit there were 5 Penzance beers and a few guests. Condition was good, but beer quality a bit variable. There was also a small bottled selection which includes a few Belgian beers. Clientele were mainly older locals & their wee dugs. A big sign informs you that they don’t do food. A pleasant traditional brewpub and worth a stop past if you are in this part of the world.“

“A nice old pub on the road back from Penzance. Roomy and spacious - the main reason to visit here is the brewpub ales of which there were only 2 on my visit. Good beers. A reasonable local crowd, we were the only visitors. Worth stopping for if you are in the area.“

64 /100 STAR INN,
“A down-to-earth brewpub with 7 hand pumps, two of which were off when we were there. They had three of their own brews and a couple of guests. The pub is an unprepossessing Victoria building on the outside and a rather barn-like old fashioned place on the inside, with a slate or flagstone floor, artex on the walls, wooden dividers between the booths and tables made from old Singer sewing machine stands. The brewery is at the back, in a couple of small outhouses. They don’t serve food but they do serve coffee – albeit instant – in large mugs. (Visited 28 March 2012).“

80 /100 STAR INN,
“Great brewpub, on the road into Penzance in the hamlet of Crowlas. This was a regular stop for us for a couple of weeks. The beers are pretty good, the place is really friendly. I ate too many pork scratchings there. Signboard tells you what beers are on ’dreckly’. Quality pub, best in the Penzance area (and there are a few decent ones in town if you check the real ale guides).“

82 /100 STAR INN,
“One of the best brewpubs in Cornwall if not the whole south of England. The small brewery is out back where the patio area is, and is called Penzance Brewing. Excellent house beers (Love Potion No. 9 is yummy, so is the Scilly Stout), a couple of regularly rotating guest taps in good condition, chalk board to tell you what’s on next, off-sales for some of the house beers, genuinely friendly, warm service, and a nice regular crowd. Small and cozy with small back patio and a billiards table. No food. This became our local during the time we spent in the Penzance area. I miss it!“
