60 /100 ELTERWATER
“In a valley to the North-West of Coniston water, Elterwater is not too far off the main road, but as there's no through road out it's a place where you plan to go to rather than find by accident. A quaint village, there's only a handful of spaced out buildings, the pub being one of them. With a large split level garden area out front, it's a nice place to sit in the summer months. The pub is traditional on the inside, quite small in terms of drinking space with the bar in one of the front facing rooms to the right. A good cask pub, there's a few guest options alongside more familiar ones from the area such as Jennings beers. Food is served and they host beer festivals here too.“

84 /100 ELTERWATER
“An old traditional Inn - rooms can be booked if you fancy staying at the Britannia. Sited in the middle of the tiny village of Elterwater, the pub sits close to the village green, just over the road from the bowling green. Inside the pub is traditional with two small rooms, a bar in the front and a small back bar just around the corner. Most of the seating capacity is outside and this can be packed on a sunny day. On a wet day when everyone crams inside the pub can be cosy to say the least. The small bar has limited capacity but stocks an ever changing selection of real ales most of which are local to the area. One to note for uniqueness is the Coniston Britannia Inn Special Edition, which brewed for the Britannia and only available at the Inn. Beers are usually well kept and I can’t recall having had a bad pint at the place. Food is basic during the day (filled rolls, chips, jacket potatoes), but more substantial meals are available in the evening and in the dining room. The daytime food is reasonably priced for the area and fills a hole after a walk in the Langdale fells. There are few things better than sitting outside the Britannia, soaking up the sun, supping on a pint and watching the world go by.“
