84 /100 Arkwright Arms (Bar) CHESTERFIELD ROAD The Arkwright Arms is set back slightly from the A632, just a 3 minute detour from Junction 29A of the M1 (depending on how old your Sat Nav is - you may get routed a longer way round as did we initially, 29A didn’t register on ours!!!).
The bar divides the pub roughly in two with what I imagine was the former lounge (now with a pool table) on the left hand side.
The Arkwright has a homely feel to it, no recent refurbishment or modernisation to the interior but a decent enough look to the place.
Approximately 12 cask beers and 7 or 8 real ciders available on my visits. The cask beer was nearly all locally sourced with beers from Ashover, Bump Mill, Muirhouse, Whim and Bradfield available. Also a limited number of Belgian beers in bottle form plus Taddington breweries Moravka - an unflitered Czech pils on tap.
Food is available from 12 to 8 pm on Monday to Saturday, Sunday hours are more limited. The menu comprises good home made fayre at reasonable prices, you can get chips and gravy in a bowl for £1.60 - what more do you want ?
Service was very friendly on both of my visits and prompt at the same time.
Largely local clientele plus a few family dining groups on the Sunday. Plenty of bench seating outside plus a kids play area.
Cracking pub, great selection of locally sourced cask ale and cider, cheap and tasty grub, if you’re heading past on the M1 this is a great place to stop! |
