“Not sure quite what it is about bod that I’m not quite sure about. Maybe it’s that Titanic beer fails to really excite me. Perhaps it’s the chainy nature of them, popping up all over the area.perhaps it’s the not-one-thing-nor-t’other-ness of their cafe with beer feel. Anyway this one is really pleasant, in a comely building that once House a furniture shop (and Boots Chemist before that). Much more an open-plan cafe than a bar (coffee drinkers, beer drinkers and diners are split about evenly). The choice is good if you like Titanic’s standard fare, with a couple of Everards and Abbeydale thrown in. Mostly keg, although they do offer five Titanic casks (very much on the cold side). Some more interesting Titanic bottles (beers I see less often) available. I mean, it’s okay. Certainly worth a stop.“

“Climb up the steep, steep hill for 10-15 minutes, and if you're still alive, a wonderful micropub awaits you. It's rustic and homely with fairy lights on thr ceiling and bugs encased in glass on the window. Beer selection isn't massive but it's quality over quantity. Four casks, a few keg and about 5 chilled cans (many more unchilled to take away). Breweries include Abbeydale, Thornbridge, Triple Point and Neepsend. Great place.“

“Proper craft beer bar a couple doors down from bod (q.v.). Four cask ales (three local-ish plus Oakham Citra) are complemented by 20 keg, although up to half of these are macro. The more interesting beers are from Glasshouse, Overtone, Polly’s, Vault City, you get the gist. One issue I had was that there’s no beer board and it’s incredibly hard to decipher the keg taps behind the bar. So I ended up plumping for an Overtone beer which turned out to be a stout and new to me! Football is on unobtrusively in the corner. By far the best place in the part of town.“

“Pub-cum-restaurant just before the park. It’s open-plan, wood-floor, tables, chairs. A room off to the side with a neon sign of the opening lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody. Weird. Feels a little too over-formal for me but I can live with that. Six handpulls, only three of which are operational on an early Saturday afternoon: two sessionable Thornbridge and a Little Critters. Choice slightly expanded with Green Mountain and Chouffe on keg alongside the macros. Looking at the pump lip on the wall they are a bit Thornbridge mad, with some Shiny, Peak Ales and Bristol Beer Factory. Worth a stop but you might struggle with a ticking session here.“

“This was a surprise. Up the steep hill and about 30 seconds from the Newsroom, this micropub is owned by Aldwark and concentrates on their beers, with four casks supplements by three Thronbridge kegs. So not a massive selection but a) it's a good place to try a brewery you may not be familiar with and b) they are friendly and inexpensive. Make a fun little mini-pub crawl (micropub crawl) with the Newsroom.“

“Old-fashioned but nicely renovated put to the east of the station (pass the park & keep going). It’s got a massive horseshoe-shaped bar that divides the front room into separate sections for all intents & purposes. They’re the tap for Moot Ales, and three were on cask when I came in (another had just gone). They’ve also got guest casks from Salopian and Tiny Rebel, plus Moot lager on keg. It’s a tiny trek out and on its own but worth a look, as you can tick a possible new brewery, plus it’s friendly and pleasant.“

“Small local pub - serves lots of guest ales that change so regularly I rarely see the same beer twice. Beer is very well kept so its always great. Outside area with great views, outdoor heating so you can sit outside even when its cold. Shame it is so very small, but definitely worth a visit (or many).“

“Very stylish wine and cocktail style bar which also happens to have a few interesting lager beers on tap and in bottles. There are even some bottles set into frosted glass in the floor of the bar! Decoration is a combination of clean white and dark brown leather with cool lighting and exposed brick walls. Cool music finished off a very chilled out experience.“
