90 /100 FARRANTS FARM, DUNSFORD, EXETER, DEVON
“It can’t get more traditional than this. Cider making started here more than 500 years ago. The buildings are impressive insude, huge chunky stones and old wooden beams. Thepress they use was installed 350 years ago, and they still use it. The approach couldn’t be more traditional either. Layers of apples are spread between mats of straw and then pressed. Everything is done by hand in the traditional way. After arriving you get a very interesting introduction about cider making in the region and on this farm and the equipment is demonstrated and explained. The owers are very friendly and happy to answer any question. After the tour you can taste their ciders, different vintages of medium and dry ciders, as well as barrel aged ciders. The place couldn’t have more character, this is a real gem. The cider has its very own character, due to the yeats taht have been living in the building for at least 500 years. If you happen to be near Exeter, don’t hesitate to go there - it is so fascinating. The farm is only a step from the B3212 road between Dunsford and Longdown.“
