“Great location with views over the bay. Fairly small bar I suppose, with an equal amount of seating outside on the front terrace. Tap-list understandably focussed on their own beers, with around ten keg and four cask. I got a flight of four and sat outside, just about catching a little sunshine through the February clouds. Beers were all excellent, covering an array of styles such as American amber, red ale, hoppy porter, lager and hazy IPA, those I tried were top tier. Couple of fridges complement the range with a great selection of modern craft. I got a couple of take-outs from a new-ish local brewery. Really great place, no doubt the best option in Torquay.“

“Visited February 2023. This Wetherspoons is in a prime position, situated in a landmark circular building at the junction between the high street and the harbour edge road. Despite this, it's not actually very obvious that it's there. It's on the first floor above the Revolutions bar, and the subtle entrance is around the right hand side (when approaching from the harbour front). It's a circular shape, with nice harbour views from one side, and also from the balcony outside. There are a couple of bars, the main one being on the right as you enter. The cask beer range is the usual 'Spoons range (no local brews on my visit); there are less taps than some 'Spoons but I still found something new to me. It was quietish on a midweek evening and I was served quickly. Unfortunately I witnessed a very dodgy bit of bar practice - having ordered a half, I noticed that it wasn't served from the tap, but instead from a partially full pint hidden behind the counter. When I challenged this I was told that a previous customer had changed their mind, but "don't worry, it's only been there 10 minutes or do". Needless to say I demanded a fresh one from the tap, which I was given - but I was still pretty shocked to see this attempted. So overall, it's a pleasantly located and spacious 'Spoons, albeit with a limited beer choice - but if you visit do watch out for dodgy serving practices (which will prevent me returning and have meant me giving a lower score).“

“Visited February 2023. Brewery tap rather nicely situated overlooking Torbay and Torre Abbey Sands (albeit separated from the sea by the busy-ish coast road). It's about 5-10 minutes stroll along the seafront from most of the other town pubs - no bad thing as the bulk of Torquay's pubs are rowdy and have rubbish beer. Inside there was a very friendly barman, a small but interesting selection of craft brews in the fridge, and 12 keg taps (no cask). The taps have 2-3 ciders, 1 guest beer (Holy Goat on my visit), and 8-9 of TQ's own beers, all of which are available as thirds. Unfortunately large screen football was being enacted inside on my visit, but there's a decent-size tiered patio out the front. This being Torquay it was warm enough even in mid-February to sit outside, and it was very pleasant to just chill out whilst watching the sun set over the bay. Definitely the best pub in Torquay now; I liked it a lot. If you're there in the evening it's worth going up the nearby illuminated staircase (starts in front of the Princess Theatre) into the Royal Terrace Gardens/Rock Walk, which has great views.“

“Best beer place in Torquay in my opinion. Free wifi. 8 or so of their own beers on tap with 4 guests. There's a beer fridge too with some Belgian but mostly British beers. all their tap beer are available in thirds (even if the Untappd TV on the wall doesn't show it). The beers are well brewed. They should do flights I think but 3rds of a pint are almost as good. This should be your first port of call in Torquay with the Hole in the Wall 2nd (full disclosure not been to the 2 cider places).“

“In CAMRAs Good beer guide. Torquay oldest pub apparently. Free WiFi. 6 kegs with 2 of the same beer on the evening I visited with 1vkeg ciders. The beer kegs were local beers but with only 1 tick for me. Not cheap at 4.40 a pint.“

“Friendly, welcoming locals pub within the shopping area of town, just up a short rise. Well worn and a little dark inside, plenty of nicknacks on the wall to keep you occupied. There is a pleasant sunny aspect to the front with a few chairs and tables. Real ciders on offer plus a couple of beers, one local. Worth a look.“

“Large Wetherspoons on the top floor of what used to be the old Winter Gardens by the looks, the lower floor is a Revolutions bar. Quite dark and slightly depressing inside, however the balcony is very pleasant and the place to be in the sunshine, sharing of tables is in order as they are in short supply, or just the wall. The beer range is a bit pathetic for a Wetherspoons, had to resort to craft cans, nothing new in the way of winners for me.“

“This is a youngsters pub right by the clock tower roundabout and harbour area in Torquay. There is loud, rock music, stripped out, well worn feel to the place. You can escape to the few benches to the front and watch the heavy traffic if you like. The name gives away what the pub is about, Apple is the fact it is a cider pub, although there are a couple of hand pulls for local beers, Parrot is for the poor creature that live in a cage near the bar and has to put up with the noise, although it seems to give as good as it gets. The cider boxes are piled up behind the bar, mostly from the local Hunts cidery. The guy behind the bar with the dreadlocks is a gem and so helpful in helping you to choose, even going down to the cellar to grab extra boxes. Fun place.“

“This is a historic pub up an alleyway close to the clock roundabout and harbour area in Torquay. Nothing has changed since Boudicca’s visit, which I suppose is a testament to the pubs longevity, but a more interesting beer range would have been nice. It is rambling with lots of different nooks and crannies, quite possibly more than one original building being utilised. As Torquay goes this is as good as it gets on the beery front, which says much.“

“The Hole in the Wall isn’t a beer destination but it’s a great place, billed as Torquay’s oldest pub (c.1540). It rambles up a hillside alleyway and has a cobblestone floor, lots of nooks and crannies and a full size statue of a corsair chappy. There are 10 to 14 hand pumps but lots of duplicates so the choice was Otter Ale, Otter Bitter, Spitfire or Doom Bar. One beer was fine but unfortunately the other was on the turn and not in peak condition. On the plus side, the music was good. (Visited 14 January 2015).“

“A large Wetherspoons resembling a nightclub, complete with dancefloor! It’s upstairs in a round-ended building but only a few steps up from the street as the entrance is at the side and Torquay is quite a hilly place. They have seven hand pumps including a few “LocAles” and a couple of the collaborations made for the ‘spoon international craft brewers’ showcase. (Visited 14 January 2015).“

“This JDW was a bit of godsend for me, offering a reasonable selection of local ales, within spitting distance of my guesthouse. Without it, I’d have been marooned in a sea of hotel bars featuring terribly humdrum macro beers. This JDW has some good seaviews and a dancefloor - the first time I’ve seen such a thing in a Wetherspoons location.“
