78 /100 MAIN STREET, Great little local pub with wood on the fire. Very friendly locals and service. They had just one of their own beers on at our visit, but that was a good mild. The rest of the casks were not too interesting. |
80 /100 MAIN STREET, I only had time for one place in East Yorkshire and this one turned out to be a gem. It’s a cozy two room pub with a small C-shaped bar. Lots of wood and stone. Patio which would have been nice on a sunny day, but this was a British summer unfortunately. Street parking, plus a small car park about 50 meters away. I stopped in for lunch and had a Ploughman’s, which had very generous portions, very tasty. They had two of their own beers on offer, a ruby and a porter, both very tasty. I asked where they are brewed, and they said "in a shed across the patio, Abbie is out there brewing now. And so she was. I interrupted a quick lunch she was having while sparging, but she was kind enough to show me around what looked to be a 3 or 4 barrel brewhouse with 3 fermentation vessels. We had a very nice chat about British beers and how American craft has influenced the market for British hops and malt. Her husband Vito runs the restaurant side, and judging from the crowd (and my Ploughman’s) is doing very well. Fantastic stop, and my 46th English county place rating. |
