76 /100 White Hart, Hull (Bar) 109 ALFRED GELDER STREET This was a nice surprise. Lovely old building with a great selection of cask and tap beers. Free wifi and friendly service. There's a beer fridge. They do show sports on the TV's. Prices hovered around £2.50 a half |
72 /100 Furley & Co. (Bar) EAST ANGLIA BUILDING, 18-20 PRINCES DOCK STREET, Visited 16/02/2024. Situated by the docks, opposite one side of Princes Quay shopping centre. Seems to be a place where folk eat - there's a host waiting to 'show you to a table'. Fair range pf beers, maybe 12 in total on cask & keg. I found a new tick before moving on. |
82 /100 Lion & Key (Bar) 48 HIGH STREET Visited 16/02/2024 during the evening. A decent traditional pub in old town with lots of wooden panelling. Lively with a nice atmosphere. Choice of 8 or 9 beers on cask, a fair and varied selection. Friendly service, it was my favourite place in Hull over two nights. |
74 /100 BREWERY WHARF, 70 HUMBER STREET Visited 17/02/2024. Vibrant modern bar in the marina area. There's a kinda games room out the back. I heard somewhere that Bone Machine are no longer involved. Around 20 taps including some macro (Camden etc). Not too much small brewery niche stuff. I tried the one Bone Machine brew on offer |
74 /100 Minerva Hotel (Bar) 10 NELSON STREET Visited 17/02/2024. Lovely triangle-shaped historic pub on the marina., dating from 1829. Lots of big rooms, little rooms, nooks and crannies. Seems to be a food pub mainly, virtually every table reserved (some multiple times per day), menu was generally hearty pub-grub type classics. There were 6 cask beers available, a reasonably varied selection. Worth going for a look see. |
76 /100 White Hart, Hull (Bar) 109 ALFRED GELDER STREET Historic pub with a beautiful half moon tiled bar. Lively with a nice atmosphere early last Friday evening. Approx 6 on cask plus 8 or so keg lines. I was slightly underwhelmed to walk in to a load of Tiny Rebel birthday beers - but they did have Atom's Neutron Star imperial stout on cask. |
62 /100 Olde Black Boy (Bar) 150 HIGH STREET, Lovely historic old pub. Sadly nothing of interest beer wise. Three on cask plus three LIlley's ciders. I had a half of Wye Valley HPA in good condition. |
70 /100 Brewdog Hull (Bar) 30G PRINCES DOCK STREET Visited 16/02/2024. Sizable BrewDog bar over two levels to one side of Princes Quay shopping centre. It was busy on Friday evening. The taplist was fairly terrible, perhaps 2 or 3 guest beers available. Nothing of interest in the fridge either. The food was from Reds, standard fare, it was fine. Overall I was slightly underwhelmed. |
66 /100 1 ANLABY ROAD Large, noisy place, the usual Spoons vibe. Visited 17/02/2024. I did find a Great Newsome tick so it was worth the visit. |
76 /100 38 PRINCES AVENUE The Atom Brewery taproom is around 25-30 mins walk from town. An interesting old building next to a church. 12 keg lines plus one cider. Most from Atom themselves with a couple of guest beers. The food looked delicious although I didn't partake - apart from picking up an artisan sausage roll to take away, it was delicious. Decent place. |
48 /100 Head of Steam Hull (Bar) 10 KING STREET Visited 16/02/2024. Dull/limited range of beer available. The beer i chose would have been a new tick from Cameron's but sadly it was off/infected. Not a great experience all in all. |
72 /100 Brewdog Hull (Bar) 30G PRINCES DOCK STREET Nice place next to the water. Card only. Free WiFi. Decent tap selection. There's a fridge for takeaway beers. Friendly service. |
62 /100 Brew (Bar) KINGSTON HOUSE, BOND STREET Head directly north from the gardens in the centre and it's located in the corner of a less than attractive mid to late 20th Century building close to The Maltings. A twin-floored cafe-bar, bright and Spartan, it has some seats outside. For those not here for coffee it has six keg beers and a fridge of cans offering up a decent selection. Dozens of board games on shelves upstairs may keep you here longer if with friends. |
58 /100 Olde Black Boy (Bar) 150 HIGH STREET, In the Old Town on the cobbled street parallel to the river, this is one of those pubs you come to for the historic atmosphere rather than its beer selection, which is macro ordinary - although its cask ale is fine in quality. This olde world pub has a smoke room with a serving hatch. The main bar is in the back room accessed along a painted brick corridor, there's a room upstairs and also what's called a beer garden on the roof, however as it is enclosed it offers no views of the city. |
70 /100 Scale and Feather Bar (Bar) 21 SCALE LANE A new incarnation of what used to be Walters, with little much changed inside and still sporting a 'late night' bar appearance than others in the immediate locale. It also still has a worthwhile mix of craft cask and keg options. This time I found the small enclosed high wall outdoor courtyard space at the venue's rear, which at busy times probably becomes a smoker's den. |
76 /100 White Hart, Hull (Bar) 109 ALFRED GELDER STREET Historic pub building and symphathetically so in its traditional appearance, with a few added television screens showing the satellite sport. The rotund bar in the front area is surrounded by seating against the exterior walls, with the lion share in the larger back room. Here, there's access to the pleasant beer garden at the pub's side, which follows the curving arc of the three-storey building, however noise from the main road is unabating. It has a very worthy microbrewed selection in both cask and keg with plenty of choices. |
74 /100 Brewdog Hull (Bar) 30G PRINCES DOCK STREET Part of the shopping centre at and overlooking the blue waters of Princes Dock, it has its own external doors so it's not limited by the hours commerce. It's decking above the water is also a fine place to sup. Inside it's of considerable size with the usual set of Brewdog and guest brews available as well as a well stocked fridge for takeaway. |
70 /100 Mr. Moody's Tavern (Bar) 6A NEWLAND AVENUE At the southern end of the suburban busy Newlands Avenue, it's a keg focussed microbar, very pleasant with a pseudo speakeasy feel to its decor with stalls and exposed brick, and lots of framed pictures of yesteryear on the walls. The selection isn't extensive as there's some safe well-known craft, but Atom and Deya were good choices on my visit, and there's a fridge of canned craft to back things up. |
62 /100 80 Days Bier Haus (Bar) 24 PRINCES AVENUE Nice place with free wifi. Good bottle selection. 3 or 4 taps. Not cheap at about 3 Quid a half pint. |
58 /100 Olde White Harte (Bar) 25 SILVER STREET, Down an alleyway on the north side of Whitefriarsgate, opening up into its own olde world pub oasis before you even step inside, where the charm continues with some wood panelling on the walls, it's a lovely place to sit and sup, but the selection is limited to often seen brews from Yorkshire and beyond. |
60 /100 Olde Black Boy (Bar) 150 HIGH STREET, Lovely old pub but only 3 cask ales on tap. |
60 /100 Sailmakers Arms (Bar) 159 HIGH STREET, Nice atmosphere place with a courtyard. OK selection of beers. Not cheap at just under £2 a half. |
62 /100 Scale and Feather Bar (Bar) 21 SCALE LANE Nice enough place. Decent choice of beer. No WiFi. Not cheap at around £2 a half pint |
56 /100 Brew (Bar) KINGSTON HOUSE, BOND STREET More of a coffee place. They do have a few bottles beers but nothing very exciting and they are expensive. £3 for a 33cl punk ipa with 25% off if you takeaway |
68 /100 Lion & Key (Bar) 48 HIGH STREET Visited on Thursday 20th February 2020 around 1800.
Trad old boozer with a good dozen or so tables, we bagged the last one as the place was doing a good trade, largely with folks eating.
Beer range didn't really inspire … we picked up the 5 beers from the home Cathead brewery, plus one guest. The best scoring beer hit 3.3, the average around 2.9 or so … not setting my beer world alight … just somewhere to pick up East Yorkshire ticks.
Service was decent enough.
Fine if you have a few hours in Hull and I'd hit it up again … the food looked good but if I had just an hour to give I'd be at the Corn Exchange. |
64 /100 BREWERY WHARF, 70 HUMBER STREET Visited on Thursday 20th February 2020 around 1630.
Just under a 15 minute walk from Paragon station then not much more than 5 back to the Corn Exchange (Atom). Large warehouse / barn style taproom with plenty of seating. The place had a few punters in, perhaps 15/18 so a bit of life for half 4 on a weekday but also relatively empty and as such service was easy and friendly enough.
36 taps perhaps but probably no more than 28 or so actually pouring. The guest beers were pretty middle of the road … nothing stood out and I'd say no more than half a dozen new rates for me. Two things did disappoint however … 1) only one Yorkshire Brewing beer available with 5 handpumps doing nothing. 2) there were a few Bone Machine beers on but we were served one on cask that was totally gone ...couldn't be arsed sending it back we just left it and moved on quickly after one round to the far superior Atom taproom - the Corn Exchange.
Should be a great venue … was average at best! |
76 /100 Hop & Vine (Bar) 24 ALBION STREET Basement bar with three casks, an Urquell and around six bag in box ciders including two local ones from Colemans at our visit. They also had a new for us Great Newsome on cask. On a shelf behind the bar there is a decent bottle selection with four Bricknells and two Crafty Little, which was another four new bottles for us in total. We hadn’t seen either of those two breweries anywhere else on our tour of Hull. We had a great talk with the owner who is a very nice man. |
74 /100 Wm Hawkes (Bar) 32 SCALE LANE Great little pub very close to the others in the old part of town. Old dark brown interior. We had another two new Cathead beers in here on cask. |
64 /100 Old House (Bar) 5 SCALE LANE Very small bar and restaurant, that seemed to feauture wine and spirits more than beer, but we did find a Yorkshire Brewhouse on cask and a Bone Machine on keg. Additonal seating is available upstairs. Lovely old building, but I did not enjoy restaurant like layout. |
70 /100 Fretwells (Bar) SCALE LANE Very close to the Lion & Key. The apparantely have the same ownership, which means they also sell Catshead beers. They had two of those on cask at our visit. Cozy old dark brown wood interior. |
80 /100 Lion & Key (Bar) 48 HIGH STREET Cozy dark brown pub. It was very busy on a Wednesday evening, but we managed to find a seat. They had four of their own beers on. They varied from a bland golden ale to an adventurous imperial stout. We had a good and large beef curry. |
62 /100 Head of Steam Hull (Bar) 10 KING STREET Having visited the Head of Steam in Newcastle we thought we would try this one out while in Hull. It’s a mix between a restaurant and a bar. They did have one Atom beer for us on cask and a new Camerons as well. It’s right on your war between Corn Exchange and Furley, so you might as well pop in, but not worth going out of your way for. |
70 /100 Furley & Co. (Bar) EAST ANGLIA BUILDING, 18-20 PRINCES DOCK STREET, Nice place by the harbour. Quite crowded and modern. Lots of people were there to eat, when I visited. About 12 casks/kegs available. Found some local beers, so I was happy. |
70 /100 Furley & Co. (Bar) EAST ANGLIA BUILDING, 18-20 PRINCES DOCK STREET, Busy bar with a dining option right by the water. They had three new local beers for us. All of them were in good condition. |
62 /100 Minerva Hotel (Bar) 10 NELSON STREET Nice pub next to the harbour. They have 6 casks with one of them being from Half Moon Brewery. They had a blackboard with a list of cans, but when we wanted one of them, they said it was out of stock. Surprised that they didn’t remove the beer from the blackboard. Actually a few more of them had to be removed too. They just shrugged. They do flights of 3 thirds. |
66 /100 Minerva Hotel (Bar) 10 NELSON STREET Good hotel bar right by the sea. They have six casks on including a Half Moon at our visit. Good place and a couple off good beers. |
78 /100 BREWERY WHARF, 70 HUMBER STREET Nice brewpub close to the sea. They had five of their own beers on cask and keg out of the 33 beers and ciders on at out visit. They have a big board with good information about the beers. They have two small fridges where we found another two of their own beers. |
80 /100 BREWERY WHARF, 70 HUMBER STREET Nice place by the docks in Hull. Sign outside says Taphouse, Hull. 36 casks/kegs with excellent beer info on the board above the bar. Found 6 new beers from East Yorkshire here where 4 of them were brewed on site. Friendly service. Good wifi. Pleasant seating. |
66 /100 Hop & Vine (Bar) 24 ALBION STREET Small below street level bar. Good tap and bottle selection. No WiFi. Friendly service. Not cheap, about 1.90 a half pint. |
70 /100 Vintage (Bar) 28 SILVER STREET Nice interesting place with lots of paintings for sale on the wall. Free WiFi. 5 interesting cask/taps. 1.75 a half pint of the cask beers. Friendly service. |
72 /100 Fretwells (Bar) SCALE LANE Nice old looking place next to the Lion and key. 2 cathead beers, 2 Hilltop beers and 2 guest beers. No WiFi. Friendly service |
76 /100 Wm Hawkes (Bar) 32 SCALE LANE Visited with the wife on Sunday 1st Sep 2019. If you are into horse brasses and old pewter tankards this is the place for you! Cask beers are OK too. It's a lovely 'old school' pub with the ceiling and walls awash with 'stuff'. Really enjoyed our time in here, two new rates as well. |
72 /100 Olde Black Boy (Bar) 150 HIGH STREET, Visited on 1st Sep 2019. Proper old pub with a friendly Cornish owner who likes to talk if it's quiet. No new rates for me, cask selection was fine and in good condition, but all 'common' to a pub goer like me. Liked the vibe and it's in and around 'the happening' area of the 'old town'. |
70 /100 BREWERY WHARF, 70 HUMBER STREET Popped in with the wife on Sunday, 1st Sep 2019. Modern, minimalism in design, single roomed place with a long bar along the left-hand side as you walk in. Large board with the beer choices above the bar, very few of their own beers on during our visit, but a decent selection of both cask and keg offerings. Flights available, we shared a cask one (three thirds). Pretty empty at 13:00 in the afternoon, beer quality fine, as was the chap serving. |
74 /100 Lion & Key (Bar) 48 HIGH STREET Visited on Sunday afternoon; 1st Sep 2019. Old place with plenty of character, Cathead beers alongside local guest beers on the hand-pulls, didn't notice the keg selection or bottle choices. Nice vibe to the place, friendly staff but wasn't too keen on their beers, seemed a 'tired' and out of condition, as was one of the others I tried. |
76 /100 Minerva Hotel (Bar) 10 NELSON STREET Visited on Sunday 1st Sep 2019, lovely sunny day, so sat outside on the river front. Busy, even at 12:00 (opening time), little disappointed with the cask selection but still managed two new rates, so not all bad. Staff pleasant enough, beer quality fine and it's a cracking old pub with loads of rooms full of history and character. It's a Hull institution and should be visited by everyone while in the city. |
60 /100 Vintage (Bar) 28 SILVER STREET Centrally located Micropub amongst many other nightlife places. This place is pleasant enough with many framed pictures on the wall, with seating against both walls and a central aisle that leads to the small bar at the back right-hand side. Here a line of hand-pumps between keg options offer up a Yorkshire based selection (at least that was the case on my visit). |
68 /100 HULL TRINITY MARKET, TRINITY HOUSE LANE Small indoor market stall in the centre of Hull, all neatly laid out, and despite not having the largest selection does have quite a few worthwhile choices of crafted ales and ciders, local options, and some of their own named brews. |
70 /100 Furley & Co. (Bar) EAST ANGLIA BUILDING, 18-20 PRINCES DOCK STREET, Nice modern looking place by the quayside in Hull
Probably the best place for craft beer in Hull
About 10 min walk from the train station
Absolutely recommendable
|
60 /100 1 ANLABY ROAD Just another large Spoon
Nothing wrong with that
Always possible to find something and ok food
But nothing to recommend either
Just 5 min walk from The Train Station
