“Main road pub through the part of Greenwich with useful shops for residents. It's a mainly macro beer focussed public house, which I only used to watch the live football as a student when I lived here, I'd be very surprised if that has improved to worthwhile levels since. Used to be called The Auctioneer.“

“A cozy, well run, corner micropub in the central Greenwich area. A little servery in the middle of two rather small rooms. Seven real ales from gravity and 11 ciders, a few beers from Kent at our stay. Friendly service and atmosphere, and a local feel. We had a few well kept ales here in friendly company with Cambridge supporters attending the match between Charlton and Cambridge at the Vallly, about 20 minutes walk from the pub. And this pub should be the best option for football supporters searching for real ales and ciders in the area. (Visited with Magne and Leif, 09.12.2023)“

“Medium-sized JDW close to the Cutty Sark overground station, and not far from the main attractions in the Greenwich area. Ten handpups, nothing special at our stay. Decent traditional breakfast, as usual. Crowed early on a Saturday in December. Polite and fast service. We walked all the way from here to the match at The Valley Stadium, about 45 minutes. (Visited with Leif and Magne, 09.12.2023).“

“Nice taproom located in the middle of Greenwich. Multiple taps to try their beers and also a few cans to bring back home. Few tables to sit down and a TV to watch some football.“

“Stopped here for lunch during my Greenwich visit. Typical JDW , looks a bit like a casino or bingo hall. Order at the bar an provide your table number. Had a good beef madras with a pint for 9.70 pounds. 8 casks and 10 taps.“

“Nicely presented taproom connected to Meantime Brewery, also serving food. Around 9 taps, with their keller beer served from a tank viewable through a glass screen below the bar. One limited edition release on my visit, with a few of their latest IPA / pale ale releases. I got a flight of 4. Some cans in the fridge. Cornish Orchard cider (also owned by Asahi). Brewery staff wandering in to watch the darts on the screen. Comfortable seats and tables. The adjoining area between the bar and brewery itself has a couple of fridges with fresh releases, some merch and glassware, all quite cheap. It's about a 15 - 20 minute walk from the Observatory and also from the River bus pier along the thames. Worth a stop.“

“Intimate alehouse a short bus ride from Greenwich town centre. Run by enthusiasts and patronised by a civilised clientele of all ages. Beers extraordinarily well-kept mostly from micros in London and the Southeast. Mostly 80s music playing, seemingly loved by many among the clientele. Very pleasant atmosphere on my maiden visit - wish I could have stayed a lot longer. Well worth a visit.“

“Visited 27.01.22. 10 ales on cask, of which several are from the macros. The ale I got was undortunately not in particular goos nick. They have live music several times a week and regularly Friday to Subday. They do food and pizza. Friendly atmosphere and service.“

“Visited on a pitstop between Royal Mail and Ikea in Greenwich 27.01.22. Brick and wood interior. Very friendly atmosphere and service. Quiet accoustics. Four ales on at my visit. My pint was less than four quid and it was in excellent nick. They have daily ales menu at the tables, with on now and coming next. All beers on their list were from small craft breweries. And they have a menu of 10 orchard ciders served from bag-in-a-box. I’m giving them extra points for the cider menu.“

“Best pub for beer in Greenwich. Nothing fancy, just a friendly place dedicated to serving an ever changing selection of cask ales. No loud music, no constant sports on a big screen screen, just the expectation that you will talk to your fellow patrons, which is a treat as it is a very interesting group of people. My wife and I have more than once stopped in for quick and wound up staying until it closed because of the interesting people we met. This is what a pub should be, and the beer selection is incredible. It isn't limited to IPA or whatever is fashionable at the moment. The River Ale house has something for every beer taste. And they have a cribbage club!“

“Great location but always busy and it can take a while to get served. Mainly Youngs beers but the staff are friendly. If you're going to sit outside you get a squidgy plastic glass and risk spilling most of it's contents if you squeeze it too hard.“

Trafalgar Tavern (Restaurant)
PARK ROW
“A handsome Regency style pub right on the waterfront by the Old Royal Naval College. It’s in a lovely location but it’s always busy so the service can be a bit slow, especially if you happen to be at the bar when a group of children are choosing which ice creams to order. They have about six or eight casks and, if you’re lucky, you might pick up a new local-ish beer. Otherwise it’s mainly Adnams and other standard beers, including the ubiquitous Doom Bar. (Last visited 27 May 2018).“

“Not your typical pub that everyone loves, but spent a lot of my time here when I lived in Greenwich whilst studying at Uni. Pilot Inn (Bar)
68 RIVER WAY

We visited here on Saturday 22nd October 2016 on the last leg of the Thames Tipple after over 10 years and somewhere between 150-200 pubs visited. This is a large pub that I guess would be described as being close to the Millenium Dome, and Greenwich North bus and Tube station is only about 8-10 mins walk. Greenwich itself is probably about 1 and a half miles away. There are few if any other pubs in the immediate area and yet there is quite a lot of new build apartments etc nearby so it does have a captive audience and I guess any event at the Millenium Dome will see this place packed to the rafters. It sits within a park with some rare greenery (for this area) to both the front and rear of the pub.

This is a really big pub inside, its multi level with a mix of tiled and wooden floors. I am sure that this pub has been opened up over the years as I reckon the small area off to the left on entering would have been a snug at one time, it has clear been extended out back with a raised patio area and with glass screens and then a lower patio area with loads of seating, this pub could really take a heck of a lot of folk if required. The bar is immediately ahead on entering the pub and seems to have what I thought were rowing oars decorating the front, but on closer inspection they appeared to be scaffolding poles? There is lots of seating, comfy, stools and more formal for dining I guess.

There was a pretty decent choice of beers on cask, with three of the core range from Fullers along with Windsor & Eton, Gypsy Hill and GK Firecraker. There was quite a range of keg, however on closer inspection most of it appeared to be macro stuff, a couple of decent bottles sat in the fridge such as SN Torpedo. Prices were pretty good and staff were quite quick and friendly enough. I would happily venture here again if in the area, we spent a good hour and a half in here. “

“Visited for Sunday lunch on the tourist trail with Valentina et al. Nice oldie worldie boozer, atmospheric and yet reasonably airy and not too cramped, great views over the river, food was better than pub grub average, beer selection Meantime and Youngs with a couple of guests. Overall a good one to visit,“

“It’s basically a shipping container, but it’s in a great location if you are heading for the O2 Arena. Not exactly atmospheric, but probably the closet bar to the Meantime brewery, and one that stocks their limited editions. Prices are reasonable, particularly given the location, and it was quiet when I was there - but there wasn’t an event taking place, I’d expect it to be manic when there’s a rock gig.“

“I first visited this pub as a student when I lived in Greenwich in the late 90’s. I last visited over a decade ago, but I assume it will be as touristy as ever given the footfall this small road gets with people heading to the Royal Park at the end of it. Well kept and appealing, the garden area at the back is possibly the best feature of the pub, but seats are always at a premium if the weather is good.“

“First visited in 1997 and a few times subsequently, it has changed a bit since then. The Yacht is dwarfed by the Trafalgar Tavern, where it can be found at its rear down a pedestrian alleyway. If you can get one of the seats by its windows though you’ll have just as good a view over the Thames as you can get at its aforementioned neighbour. The wooden fixtures and cosy atmosphere make this place as decent a place to drink though.“

“Typical English pub, visited on a Monday afternoon. A few cask ales besides the standard fizzy lager fare, but none really exciting. Interior tries to look authentic, but looks poorly done and a bit run down. OK place to sit for a short while, but wouldn’t stay here for long. Didn’t eat here, so can’t judge that.“

“We visited the Cutty Sark on Saturday 17th May 2014 it was the first pub (opens early) on the umpteenth leg of the Thames Tipple, a journey from the source of the Thames to where it meets the Thames Barrier a journey that has so far taken over seven years! Myself and Loz sat outside overlooking the river with a Meantime Pale ale in one hand a fistful of fresh strawberries (our breakfast) in the other, what a gorgeous morning it had been. The rabble descended on us some 15 mins later. This place is clearly quite historic dating back to Georgian times and is quite olde worlde inside, though we never really took a good look because we sat outside for much of our visit other than the ordering of a beer of course. Beer choice was exclusively Youngs on H/P but plenty of Meantime on keg with 3-4 choices I think. A good pub to start the TT with today.“

“We visited the Gipsy Moth on Saturday 17th May 2014 on the umpteenth leg of the Thames Tipple, a journey from the source of the Thames to where it meets the Thames Barrier a journey that has so far taken over seven years! This place was absolutely heaving with people spilling outside in large numbers because of the glorious sunshine. It is quite strange that the Cutty Sark pub is situated about half a mile further long from here whilst this pub celebrating a quite different ocean going vessel is smack opposite the huge Cutty Sark, Tea Clipper. This place was doing a roaring trade in food and beer, beer choice was fine with Ilkely and Navigation being two of the better choices on offer, however there was also Proper Job and Doom Bar on H/P as well. If you enter from the corner (main entrance) the large bar which is sort of split between front and rear of pub by pillars is in front, it was difficult to get an acurate layout of the pub as there were a lot of people milling about but it is a large one roomed pub (probably was multi roomed at one point) There was a patio area to the rear and side, it was fine. Service was surprisingly brisk considering how busy it was, prices not too bad as I recall.“

“We visited the Trafalgar Saturday 17th May 2014 on the umpteenth leg of the Thames Tipple, a journey from the source of the Thames to where it meets the Thames Barrier a journey that has so far taken over seven years! The Trafalgar sits on a prominent corner location just a 100 yards or so from the Yacht down the alleyway and looking across to the hugely impressive naval college. It is one of those minimilist sort if places, lots of white and subtle colours, very modern and classy with prices to match, as an example we (me & Loz) had a half each of Meantime Yakima red only 4+% but £5.90 for the two! WOW that was pricey. Selection wise they did have some h/p with Adnams amongst those on offer Ghost Ship I think. Staff were efficient but the sort that were never going to engage in conversation with a bunch of country oiks like us. I have to say other than being able to sit outside on such a glorious day and in such a pleasant area, this pub wasn’t a patch on the Yacht or even the Cutty Sark.“

“We visited The Yacht, Greenwich on our umpteenth Thames Tipple on Saturday 17th May 2014. The Yacht is situated a short walk from the Cutty Sark and really close to the Trafalgar, access is along a narrowish alley. Beer choice was pretty good with Trumans Lazarus and London Fields amongst the 4 handpumps on offer and a reasonble selection of keg albeit with plenty of dross also available. The Maltese owner was really friendly and chatty and without me even mentioning anything kindly gave my CAMRA card discount to any of the other 16 on the trip who wanted a pint. The pub is a little dark as you enter, with plenty of dark wood about. The bar is on the right hand side and ahead you can look out one of the window seats which sit slightly raised from the standard pub level at the rear of the pub, these seats offer good views of the Thames. I liked it here, the manager was really chatty and very nice chap and the beer in very good nick, we had the Lazarus from Trumans. It would be great if it had outside seating but sadly its location and positioning make that an impossibility I guess, still it was one of the better pubs today. Actually I’ve just seen photos of chairs outside (in alleyway) so it appears you can sit outside if you wish. “

“The Pelton is a solid back street local that Ive used on the way to Charlton away games over the years. The surrounding streets ooze London of old and are regularly used for filming. 7 or 8 cask beers, nothing too outrageous brewer wise, safe tried and trusted breweries and beers in good nick. Just right on a match day, busy enough to give off a good vibe without getting rammed. 5 or 6 minutes walk from Maze Hill BR.“

“This is a great use for a grand building overlooking the bend in the Thames that separates the Isle of Dogs from Greenwich. It’s right next to the navel college and can be accessed by the path along the river, a short walk east from the Cutty Sark. The grandeur of the building is not lost ion its patrons or their wallets as it’s not a cheap place, and food plays a large part in its character in a bright and airy environment where every table practically offers a fine view across the water. Upstairs there is a room available for hire which also has a bar set up there, it’s ale selection is downstairs in the public area.“

“This pub is often very busy, but given its prime location on the waterfront by the Cutty Sark it is not unexpected. The plush traditional decor also appeals and many of the tables are set-up for dining as it does a very good line in food. Ale drinkers are serviced and there is a patio section that looks out onto the big ship it doesn’t take its name from - You’ll find the very small Gipsy Moth close to the waterfront to the left of the Greenwich Tunnel dome building. This is a very worthwhile pub to visit - tourist or local.“

“Shows the sport and sells its own Shepherd Neame ales. This pub occupying a prime spot in the village area has a comfortable enough decor in a slightly updated but traditional English pub style that is predominantly wood furnished.. There’s a couple of rooms to sit in and also has a fish and chip counter as part of the premises. You can order food normally though. It can get busy given its location.“

“Sadly for me they had to demolish the first incarnation of the Vietnamese Noodle House and all the buildlings around it to build both the DLR underground station and the shopping and entertainment complex above it which this JD Wetherspoon now occupies a fair slice of. It needed to be big as there’s no shortage of people reveling until late on here, and given the amount of tourists this suburb receives can be busy throughout the day too. As a Lloyds Bar in the group’s chain the emphasis is on designer drinks but ale is available too and it’s not a bad selection - and it’s a comfortable enough place to drink at all times.“

“A cosy little Youngs pub. Nothing spectacular to report. They have the standard Youngs range on tap, including a seasonal. There’s a decent bottle range, which actually contains a fair few Meantime beers. Prices are average, staff is friendly. The pub itself is not pretentious at all and seems to have a pretty laid-back vibe. The food smelled good, although I didn’t eat anything. This place is directly next door to the Greenwich Union, and if you’re visiting that pub it might be worth popping in here. Otherwise, I wouldn’t go out of your way to visit Richard I.“

“Pretty typical Spoonies here. They have 10 casks going, mostly bitters and goldens but some tasty stuff on my visit. I was here on a Saturday evening (getting on 8pm) and the crowd was lively, filled with fake-tan girls and the like. Pints are £2.40. There were a few pensioner punters lingering when I was there, but I’m guessing most of their kin put in their time earlier in the day. This place stays open pretty late, so there’s that, too. Right next to the DLR station, so worth a quick pop-in if you are able.“
