“Visited 13/3/2024. Stop 3. Highlight of the mini-tour around these parts. New brewery for me. Seemed a little out on a limb, but is well worth a visit. Only 2 other people in there when we visited mid-afternoon, not sure it gets a lot of passing trade? Decent range of their beers available in thirds. Good quality too, especially the impy. Would like to visit again.“

SPAR-EAT17 (Grocery Store)
64 BROOKSBY'S WALK
“An upscale market with quite an impressive range of beers, must be about 80 or so on the refrigerated shelves. Lots of the classic craft beers of the UK, plus some obscurities, and also some goodies from German, Belgium, etc. Prices are average. I have read some reviews of this place saying that the shop systematically overcharges at the till, so that’s something to be careful of, although I haven’t noticed it myself.“

“A fairly 'arch'-etypal railway arch bar. A little cavernous and warehouse-y as you pass through the brewery to the outside bar. There are a few tables inside and outside but not all the much. I chose inside with a loud piped Halloween playlist and the thunder of trainsabove me. Plastic cups, which is a pet peeve of mine, but I can see why they have them. The selection consists of 7 Deviant & Dandy beers on tap with some cans. They offer the usual styles from super swssionable pales to an imperial stout.“

“If you want the feel of the Euston Tap but don't want to go to Euston then this is the pub for you. Weird little building? Check. Buses nearby? Check. Lots of people sitting outside (odd as it's chilly & just rained but you do you, Hackney) so inside it's sparsely attended but convivial enough. 18 keg tap and 5 cask, although some of these will be tried and true (Bitburger, Budvar). Even so, the Rickinghall possibilities are pretty good with lots of British (& some Continental) beers & ciders represented. Recommended.“

Clapton Craft (Beer Store)
97 LOWER CLAPTON ROAD
“Cracking bottle shop not far from the Round Chapel on Lower Clapton Road. Unlike many other Clapton Craft locations, this shop doesn't have any space from drinking in. Never mind, I will just have to be patient; the selection of beers, chilled and unchilled, is certainly enough of a draw. The selection is mostly Greater London, but itgit rarer breweries and rarer beer from better-known breweries in the capital. Other countries such as Belgium and the North are also represented. Prices are about right for London: expensive but no means impossibly so).“

“This is a popular brewery tap, on the small side but with a lively retro atmosphere. I'd only had one Froest Road beer before - I wasn't impressed but I had the suspicion it'd been hanging around quite a while, so nice to try some fresh at the tap. The beer list isn't massive: 4 Forest Road beers (there seems to usually be 6 but two weren't available on my visit) with a guest sour. The beer styles were fairly predictable: Three pale ales of varying strength/styles and a lager. I went for the IPA which didn't blow me away but was certainly solid (and yes their beer is far better fresh!) It doesn't look like they do a lot of specials, so maybe not one for repeated visits, but certainly worth a try to bump up your London rates with a new brewery.“

“Another brewery tap in Hackney. I make it sound it's a bad thing! I'd not even heard of Saint Monday and they certainly weren't on my radar. It looks like they run quite a few pubs in the area (e.g. the Black Heart in Camden). It's dark and a little bit gith inside with 70s-90s metal playing (Sabbath, GnR). Eight of their beers are available on tap. Typical 2020s craft styles are supplemented by a wheat ale, a Baltic Porter and an ESB. I enjoyed the Baltic Porter even if it was unbelievably sweet. They've also got a decent guest list including The Kernel, Old Beersel and Turning Point (all new beers for me). A good bar frequented by beer people, although attendance is moderate so do get the word out.“

“An old-school basic taproom from a wonderful craft brewery. Maybe it's because they've had their 10th anniversary and have so many awesome beers on, or just the chilled East London ambiance, but I love this place. Not a whole lot of beers on but you'll likely fins a Five Points beer to suit you. From sours to smoked porters to amber lagers they have you covered. Their beers have never blown me away but are always well solid. This is the best of what they have to offer.“

“Brilliant large railway arch brewpub. Heaving on a mid-afternoon and understandably so. They had eight of their own beers on, including some rarer (these days anyway) styles: Kölsch, Cali common, Hefe and a Festbier. The beer i had was brilliant. Prices are in line with London brewpubs. Excellent place, only problem was finding a seat!“

“This pub is right at the east of Hackney oe west of Homerton. It doesn't quite look like a pub from the outside - I thought it was a private house at first! Inside it's a nice mix of old-school twee and pleasantly Boho. The beer selection is very good, with a a few cask, keg and bottle. They go well beyond Greater London here, with a couple beers from Burning Sky and one from Bullhouse in Belfast. Lovely friendly service. One to include on any Hackney crawl.“

“Gorgeous large-ish pub full of faded opulence. Seems to draw a decent crowd just after opening on Saturday which is always a good sign. Two Volden beers on cask - their beers are simple but done well - along with a smattering of worthwhile if not exactly hard to find keg such as Orbit. Leighton put it well: it's deep cut Hackney, and while I often worry about the future of less trendy pubs such as this, I have a feeling that it'll outlast many of the more modern outfits a bit further south.“

“Visited afternoon of Saturday 25th March 2023 - after the nearby railway arch locations popped in here before going home. Nice big sized pub with a good range of different craft across keg and cask, managed to pick up a couple of new London brewery ticks for me not seen in South London. Staff friendly and efficient, good beer selection and worth popping in when in the area to see what they have.“

“Visited afternoon of Saturday 25th March 2023 - railway arch location you can't miss with a bright pink facade facing. Lots of benches both inside and out, good amount of taps with pours down to 3rds, and fridges with cans, great quality brews as usual from these guys. Great place and worth combining with the nearby Hackney Church a few doors down.“

“An OK pub. Not much to see of it from Mare Street, but it's a nice place inside. Not a large selection of independent breweries, it must be said. A few on cask. On my visit, I enjoyed a mild from London brewery Redemption. The kegs included the likes of Beavertown, Camden, Diageo. Friendly enough service. Average prices. Wasn't busy on the Monday afternoon I visited but otherwise it has a pleasant ambiance. Outdoor seating in the back of the pub. Not a must-visit but worth popping in to see what's on. It's just a minute from the Cock Tavern.“

“Large pub sat on a corner of a junction. Not overly crowed. A few groups of guys who were heading to the Tottenham v Bournemouth match (but this is a craft place so not rowdy) and some rock n roll families such as ourselves, looking for a lunch after an Andy & the Odd Socks show (kids with ear defenders and odd socks being the giveaways). The two barman were really friendly and seemed to be familiar with various regulars. Pizza was decent. As was the range of both Five Points beers and guest beers. For a family lunch venue it kept everyone happy, and would return again for ticking purposes.“

“Right in the heart of Hackney. The taproom hosts the full range of Five Points beers and some guests. Cask conditioned beers are served from the two hand pumps on the left of the bar with the rest from 500L tanks. There is a mezzanine area overlooking the brewery that can be booked for parties etc. The warehouse yard has both open and covered tables, and a beautiful clutch of Victorian railway arches to nestle under. Ace pizza supply the excellent food and there is an occasional DJ. Check out the nearby Pembury Tavern their brewery tap.“

“Medium-sized brick and steel taproom with the serving bar to the rear, and the brewery behind the windows on the right hand side. Altogether 16 beers on tap supported by two cask ales. At our stay they had eight of their own beers on offer. Pizza options. Popular with a fine vibe on a Thursday eve. Friendly service. (Visited with Finn, 09.02.2023).“

“Smallish old skool place, probably the most fun of the places we visited.. Central L-shaped bar with a lot of cask ales on one side and kegs on the other. No beer list, and the font on the tap handles was so tiny that I couldn't read them even by muscling my way in between the punters seated at the bar, and bending and squinting, with or without glasses. Barman was busy, but we had to ask him about the selection every time. And of course we sat on the cask side, so you had to navigate through the crowd to see the keg side. Simple fix, but you need the political will. Still a great place but it could be an awesome one.“

“Maybe it's a law that you must put decent brewery taps under railway arches in UK cities. if so, that's a good law. Two breweries represented here. Sadly and perhaps weirdly, no flights, but since they offer thirds you can build your own. Worth travling to try this one.“

“They had a deep fryer behind the bar here and it took us a while to notice that it was for gyoza, not deep fried beer. Decent selection, friendly service and friendly clientele. AND they have a beer list so you don't have to squint at the tap handles. Worth a stop.“

76 /100 ARCH 17, 16 BOHEMIA PLACE
“Probably the most beautiful of the arches breweries. It uses two arches, but the inside is like a gothic church, with wooden roof beams, and the altar bar. Service was good. Flight of 3 for less than 7 pounds. The 12 taps are varied, with sours, lagers, ales, a stout, well made. The food would have been tempting but the sunday roast was sold out and kitchen closed.“

84 /100 UNIT 19 BOHEMIA PLACE
“Located in a train arch in Hackney, next to 2 other breweries. The place looks pretty simple, bare decor, but great beer. Service was friendly and expert. They dont do flights but thirds are decently priced, around 2 pounds each. 12 taps are possible (although that night, there was some empty slots for Verdant). The Pressure Drop offerings had a broader range of styles (gose, lagers, ales, porter), all very goof whereas Verdant is more focused on IPAs, which were top notch. Worth the trip to Hackney“

Fair Deal Foodstore (Grocery Store)
193-195 LOWER CLAPTON ROAD
“It’s a large local grocery store and they have a pretty good selection of beer. Of note, they had numerous different Kernel beers along with a variety of Beavertown that I haven’t seen elsewhere in the neighbourhood. Not a destination for beer but a decent local option.“

“Decent bar in central Hackney, just a minute's walk from the exit of Hackney Central station. Nice and spacious with a couple rooms and, when the weather is nice, an ample outdoor seating area. Pretty good selection across both cask and keg with a slight emphasis on local London breweries and traditional German breweries. Not sure they have much in the way of bottle selection. They also offer gyoza here, which looks promising although I haven't had any myself. The service has been friendly enough during my visits. Prices are on par. Certainly worth a visit if you're passing through central Hackney.“

“A cool, colourful, bric-a-brac decorated taproom under the railway arches. Outdoor seating in front of the arches. A tap line of 11 beers, about half of them from Forest Road. No beer flights, we shared half-pints. Good youthful vibe on a Wednesday eve. Among others, we met people from Two Tribes brewery who invited us over to their place in Camden (see my review from 22. November). The Forest Road Taproom is located further south of central Hackney and close to the new Five Points Taproom (opened in late November '21). (Visited with Finn 17.11.2021).“

Grapes & Hops (Beer Store)
232 GRAHAM ROAD
“Solid shop that's split about 50/50 between beer and wine in terms of space. Of note, almost all the beers are kept in fridges. Nice selection, there must be more than a 100 different beers. Lots of quality breweries, some local stuff. I didn't see anything that isn't available elsewhere but this would certainly be a good shop to have nearby. Prices are about par for the course. Staff guy was friendly. I'll definitely pop in now and then.“

“Not much to write home about. Forest Road does very few different beers, so don't expect to find any/many specials here. They have the occasional interesting guest beer, though. Ambiance and style is modern brewery tap railway arch. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit this place.“

“Good spot overall. They brew some pretty solid beers, although the range doesn't change with enough frequency to coax me in here that often. They round out their taplist with guest beers, sometimes fairly interesting stuff. Nice food offering here. Interestingly, this place is hugely popular with the non-beery crowd, so if you come in during the evening (e.g. Thu-Sat) it tends to be quite busy with evening scene people. Decent value, and beers are available in 1/3 pours. The place itself is a nicely renovated railway arch. I wouldn't call this place a destination but if you're going to the Experiment, which is a few doors down, you may as well pop your head in here to see if they have anything interesting on tap.“

“Been here a few times over the years. Decent range usually available across cask, keg and bottle/can. Average pub service. The place itself has an interesting aesthetic, kind of like a big old house, maybe haunted. Really nice back garden area. This place is a little out of the way and not a destination, I wouldn't say. But if you're looking for a Hackney beer scene deep cut, this is an option.“
