“Visited here on a Tuesday afternoon. The entire facility is quite large and impressive. A moderate crowd made moving around the grounds quite easy. Outside are 10 towering silver lagering tanks behind their legendary Steampunk treehouse. There are many outside tables to enjoy the large selection of DFH a brews offered inside the expansive taproom. On this visit, there were 26 different beers on tap, with 13 of them being taproom exclusives. There are also a large variety of cocktails available that are made with their own distilled spirits (also made on the premises). Additional seating surrounds the taproom. There is a brewery store offering all things DFH including a large selection of their beers and flavored cocktails. Tours are offered daily and we took the abbreviated version (about 25 minutes) that discusses the history of DFH and begins with a sample of 60 Minute IPA and ends with a special tour edition coozie and a 12 ounce DFH can to put inside it. Our tour guide was Piper. She was spirited and knowledgeable and made the 5 dollar fee well worth the investment. Also, the on-site kitchen offers a small menu that offers craft pizzas, sandwiches, salads and snacks. A really great experience for any craft beer enthusiast.“

“Finally got out here. The investment is clear, the place is huge. Industrial brewing/distilling facility with a tasting room/bottle shop. I went during COVID and they had adapted well to utilizing their outdoor space. Staff are great. They have some brewery only exclusives/pilot batches on tap which is nice. They also have some exclusive bottle releases as well. Prices are fine. They offer samplers and taster sizes. The menu is a little underwhelming with pizzas and simple sandwiches, but the food was actually decent once it hit the table. I recommend making a trek, its cool. Their tap list was a lot better than the stuff that gets mass distributed.“

“Located off the beaten track. Very big factory with plenty of parking. Food trucks on parking site at least during the lunch hours. Tasting room, brewery tours, big gift shop. Vintage bottles available at growler station (cheapish prices). Samples of four available and they are free! Service was a bit slow. It looked like some of the workers were not real bartenders more like volunteers. Art outside of building. Cool place, I even met Sam.“

“Large tasting room. A little noisy but otherwise fun. Service was really slow. Selection was pretty good with a bunch of their own brews. Prices were decent- especially with four free samples.“

“This is the production brewery, so the ambiance of the tap room wasn’t great. But everyone before/after the tour gets 4 free samples, which is quite generous. On tap were their standards and some other occasional varieties. The only reason I marked down the selection is that as this is the production brewery, they don’t have many experimental or exotic new things on tap. The food truck was good and the pulled pork was pretty decent. The bartenders, tourguide, and other staff were friendly, informed, and great!“

“Industrial park setting amid farmland. Tap room itself is in a small section of the brewery that dominates the surrounding area. Hostess was pleasant, but the bartenders were less attentive. Decent selection of about 14 taps but was hoping for more experimental styles that we could not find anywhere else. The freshness of the brews was rewarding, though. The attached food truck, with an enticing wood fired aroma, offered a good selection of inexpensive choices, including chili and a tasty grilled cheese sandwich. Nice side trip if you are not pressed for time.“

“Nice tour of the facility that focuses on the history and recipes rather than the Brewing process. Tour is followed (or preceded) by 4 samples, which is more than generous. Grill wagon serves up some tasty brats as a nice accompianment. Typical taproom vibe, gift shop rotates bottles. Always something new here.“

“Ganz toller Service. Wir haben Vormittags sls einzige Besucher zu zweit eine 1 1/2 Stunden Führung bekommen! Toller Tadting Room mit aktuellen Testbieren. Vor der Brauerei klasse Foodtruck mit hausgemachten Bierwürsten. Dogfish Head ist für mich die innovativste US Brauerei. Hinfahren!“

“The negatives first. Most of the tour guides seems to be heavily hit by ADHD. Especially after a long night the brewpub in Rehoboth Beach that was a bit annoying. The same guys tend the bar and do everything else public facing here, so it got a bit on my nerves. The only exception was the guy in the food cart, who was so slow I bet he was hungover just as us. But the tour was nice anyway, it’s an impressive facility, the tour guides, yes we had two, they switched during the tour due to some unforeseen circumstances, were knowledgable and friendly, and were happy to cheer with us in the bar afterwards. A bit slow and unorganized service. But we had a blast anyway. Nice chowder and sausages served outside, lots of good beers on tap, same as at the brewpub actually, and lots of merchandise in the store. A must if you’re in the area, even though the brewpub should be your number one priority.“

“Situé au milieu de nul part. Le retail shop est l’endroit idéal pour faire le plein de Dogfish, tous les brassins du moment y sont ainsi que la panoplies d’articles dérivés. C’est aussi possible de faire la visite de la brasserie.“

“Located pretty much in the middle of nowhere between a bunch of crops field. Location is actually pretty cool with a bunch of boccie ball files, food truck, and some metal tree. Free samples plus great tour makes for fantastic experience. Shop was also very well stocked with a great selection of beers and growlers. I would drop by again if I am in the area.“

“Free tours that run most days from 11am to 5pm. Starting at 4:30 - 6:30 they have a happy hour, half priced brats. The tour was amazing, a well run operation with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Everyone that arrives gets four free samples of anything they have available that day. Can also purchase single beers or get your growler filled. Bocce ball and corn hole in the front yard. The tours fill up quickly so arrive early and be prepared to wait on a busy weekend.“

“A bunch of my friends in the DC area had been wanting to head out to DFH for some time now. We arrived and were enamored by the size of the place. This is the largest brewery I have visited, though I’ve driven past the AB plant down in Williamsburg VA numerous times.

For such a large brewery, the tasting room that serves customers pints and growler fills were woefully small. Everyone was packed in and the attempts at getting a few of my samples was nerve racking. I’ve been to breweries a fraction of the size that have bigger tasting rooms. My one major problem (one we encountered at their brewpub as well) is that if you’re already well versed with DFH beers, there’s not a whole lot to surprise you. If you’ve already been on brewery tours, nothing will surprise you. Don’t expect to be able to sample *anything* out of a fermenter - that’s only for smaller breweries to wow you (that could be DE law that prevents them, so I won’t hold it against them). The problem is just that I’m familiar with either being provided samples along the trip, or at the very least in a tasting room that allows for ease in acquiring those beers. Here they jut throw everyone in the same room, so you have people who want to buy growlers and pints surrounded by people who aren’t paying a penny for a few small samples.

Without anything new to pull you in, you end up with a selection that is half available at the common grocery store in many states and isn’t all that interesting. The only thing that would entice me to return would be their Thursday night events where they break out vintage ales.

For being such an "off-centered" brewery, I was hoping for a bit more of that instead of such a bland cookie-cutter experience. I still enjoy most DFH beers, but I have to say that this trip had me pulling back the curtain and instead of seeing something "hip", I found an ironic hipster. Others might have a better experience. I was just hoping for something a bit more unique than their year-round and a few seasonals available. It was all free, and the prices for most things in the store are pretty reasonable, so there’s that at least.“

“The beer tasting is free (or with tour, i suppose), so you can’t really argue with the value. Quite fun to walk through the brewery and see what they are working on at the moment. If you are in delware, stop on by.“

“Worth visiting to go on the tour of their impressive facilities. Of course there’s a bar to taste a fairly standard selection of DFH beers after the tour. Nothing unusual though. Good to combine with a trip to the Rehoboth beach bar where there are a couple of unique brews available.“

“Update to previous reviews. I was at DFH tasting room on 7/25/2013 and they have made changes. They have added many more taps and for a tasting you can choose the 4 beers you want to taste from the list. They now serve pints (or 1/2 pints for the more expensive beers) and also sell growlers. That combined with the food truck makes for a much more complete Brewery visit experience.“

“One of the best 3 non-Belgium style craftbrewers in the northeast (along with Victory & Smuttynose). Certainly the most experimental of any in the northeast if not in the whole country. Sam C. has done some amazing recipes as well as collaborations (ex. the beers with Victory & Stone), & joint startup’s (La Birriera at Eataly in NYC)...not to mention a TV series (Brewmasters), & designing a unique IPA glass with Sierra Nevada and Riedel!. A visit to DFH is a must and generally considered a destination to plan a trip around for most craft fans. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and a visit here is very rewarding.“

“!!Newly expanded tasting area that is much bigger and offers more draft options.!! The brewery sits in a neighborhood setting. It has a nice tasting room / shop, although the beer available on tap is limited to four. They do have plenty of bottles for sale to go If your looking for differnet DFH beer the place to go is the brewpub in Rehoboth). They give an informative hour long tour. They have bocce courts outside to play in the summer.“

“Great place to visit at least once. This was my second tour, as some friends had not been. Get free 4 3oz tastings, I had Theobroma, Sahtea, My Antonia and Burton Baton. Tour is good, everyone there seems to be happy and grateful to share about DFH. Note, it’s hard to get tickets so try in advance. Bring close toed shoes!“

“SO I finally got to visit the brewery on the Analog A Go-GO weekend and it was outstanding. After the extremely mediocre tour, instead of tastings, I purchased a ticket for the AnalogAGoGO and tasted on 10+ cask beers from DFH and Victory. Got to meet and shake Sam Calagione’s hand, which was outstanding and let’s face it, this place is a USA Craft Beer Mecca. I highly recommend visiting this brewery.“

“This is one of the beer mecca’s of the USA. However, it is more like a beer amusement park than a religious home. Get in line get shuffled around, try a few samples and we’ll take you through the gift shop! I’ll still say worth the trip, but not as personal as the little guys. Plus no real tap room, just a few little taste.“

“It was nice to finally visit the production facility, and we got a behind the scenes tour from Drew, one of the brewers. There are 5 beers on tap in the tasting room and you get four tokens; the 5th beer is always 60 minute for those not wanting the odd-ball beers. The bottle and case prices are very good, so stock up. The merchandise is high-priced.“

“This is probably one of the easier breweries to find. The signage was fantastic and their was plenty of parking. The tour wasn’t as extensive as I’ve seen but frankly if you’ve seen one brewery tour you’ve seen them all. The biggest thing was not seeing the bottling line. Those things are cool. After you take the free tour you get free 2 oz. samples of 4 beer. As others have mentioned you can only sample the beers if you take the tour. They also have an extensive selection of DFH merch, including beer soap and these awesome screen-printed posters. they also had 6 packs and cases for sale as well as their latest bombers. The highlight of the trip was getting to see Sam Calagione in the tasting room though I didn’t get to talk to him. He seemed very personable.“

“Enjoyed the tour, great notes of the mash as you enter. Tour is canned, but great to see the bones of the business. After the tour you get 4 free pours. We were the last tour before thanksgiving, so all the employees and Sam himself were hanging out in the pouring room. Awesome! They have some limited release beers and tons of merch in the pouring room. One of the better brewery visits I’ve been on.“

“It was great to visit the Dogfish brewery. Their facility is breathtaking - lovely cedar notes fill your nose as you walk through the front door. The big treehouse is cool to see up close outside. Inside the taproom they have 4-6 taps, bottles for sale and 4 / 6 pks for sale. You can get some good deals on bottles to go. They also have lots of merchandise throughout the taproom. I believe you can only get beer on tap if you take the tour. And if you want to take the tour, you must make reservations weeks in advance - check their website for details. The tour was very informative and included 3 stops - the brew house, the fermentation tank area and the barrel room where the huge Palo Santo tank is alongside 2 oak tanks. They did not show us the bottling line b/c they were bottling at the time - but you could see it through some tanks. At the end of the tour you get (4) 4 oz samples. They change frequently. Our tasting included Chateua Jiahu, Raison D’Etre, 90min IPA and 120min IPA!“

“Really enjoyed this brewery tour. You got four 4 ounce glasses of their delicious beers for free. They had a bunch of beers in bottles that I wouldn’t be able to get from home. The tour guide was friendly, fun and knowledgable. I’ve always digged the vibe that dogfish head gives off. The tour started out a bit scattered but thats the only complaint. Spend way too much there.“

“Cool to see what happens when a micro gets to go big-time. Loved the oak and palo santo tanks. Guide was knowledgeable, friendly, but definitely gave the canned tour to our group of homebrewers. Wish we could have had a bit more of the nitty gritty. Also cool to see the original Sabco system. Free samples were nice - included Midas Touch, the newly re-worked Raison d’Etre (now dry as a bone), and finished with Palo Santo. Lots of cool stuff in the gift shop. Neat Burning Man treehouse out front. Worth a visit.“

“Cool tour with a nice guy, gave us a thorough tour but was mindful that most of us were really just dying for the free samples. The giant palo santo tanks were awesome. It was cool being able to smell the wood and then taste it in the beer. Everyone there was very friendly, and they have a nice selection of merch and most of their available beers by the case, pack, or bottle. Great brewery. Looking forward to doing it again.“

“Fun tour, can’t complain when the tour and samples are free. The tour isn’t terribly extensive, but I thought seeing their giant palo santo and oak tanks was worth the visit in itself. The staff are definitely excited about their workplace and the brews, which makes things fun. If you make the effort to go to this tour, the Rehoboth brewpub is a must (way better than the DFH alehouses around DC).“

“Had a great time. Walked right in on a Saturday and were lucky enough to grab two spots in the next tour without a reservation. Staff was reasonably knowledgeable and very entertaining. Felt like the tour could have been more. We only walked through two rooms. The tasting room was nice. Was able to sample four beers for free. They could have made more of the sampling. Discussed what was in the beer you were sampling, discussing the characteristics, etc. Also, it would be really nice if they had most of their beers on tap for sampling, or at least more than four. But in all . . . had a great time.“

“My travel companions and I had a really nice afternoon at the DFH Brewery. The tour was outstanding! Loved the memorabilia section at the beginning with Sam’s original equipment. Our guide was fun, informative, and had lots of little fun facts about the brewery and its history. I was a little disappointed that they were only pouring samples from four different beers. I’ve been to some breweries that will basically give you a sample of anything in their line-up. Lots of cool stuff to buy. Came home with a shirt and a DFH sign for the basement. Overall, just a really fun way to spend the afternoon. Highly recommended.“

“The entrance to this place cracked me up, after walking through a warehouse of hops and boxes full of beer labels we show up to a door and are kindly greeted by a bunch of guys hanging out and listening to music, basically what you would expect from Dogfish head, but what I liked is that our tour guide was easily in his 50’s and was very knowledgeable and pretty enthusiastic about the brewery. Not to mention the diverse array of employees of all ages we met up with as we walked through the brewery. It struck me that everyone we spoke with who was employed here not only seemed very kind but very happy to be doing whatever it was that they were doing. This is the kind of thing you genuinely like to see at a brewery. We got to sample 90 Minute, Midas Touch, and Palo Santo after the tour all of which were very tasty. They have some pretty good prices on beer if you buy it in the shop, I got Palo Santo at $10 a four pack which is pretty cool. All in all it’s a fairly standard beer tour whit some cool sites (oak tanks, Palo Santo tank, the original 1/2 barrel system that Sam started on, etc), and they take their time with hospitality.“

“On this most recent trip, we went to the brewery and on the tour. Great tour, by the way. Tour guide was very "into it" and was enjoying it as opposed to those who go through the motions only. Afterward, we got our samples or 60 Minute, 90 Minute, Palo Santo Marron and Raison D’Etre. I also purchased a work shirt, the latest Punkin Ale shirt and their signature glass. Had a great time their and the service all around was excellent.“

“I’ve gone to DFH 6 times in the last 4 years. It’s always been a great trip the people are super polite and the tour is fun and loud. The tasting is amazing and fresh and of course free. If you are close to DE I recommend you go to this brewery. The last time I went the construction was a little loud but much needed to make more of their great beer. I can’t wait to go back and visit again and see how the new add-ons came out“

“Went on the tour here and whiled away an early evening. I thought the tour was one of the lamest tours I’ve ever gone on. I could hardly hear the woman, she said a bunch of shit wrong, didn’t answer questions well, and left this beer geek majorly unimpressed. The setting is nice, but geez, inform us. And don’t hide how much "white malt" you use. I’ll admit that I’m critical of DFH’s beers, but the whole arrangement was mediocre for such a trendsetter. In so many ways, all breweries are the same.“

“Toured Dogfish in July of 2007. Of the breweries I have been to this is the cleanest and most impressive. This is really in the middle of nowhere in Delaware. The brewery tour was quick (about 15 minutes) and then the tour guide answered questions and sold beer and merchandise. Certainly a brewery worth checking out if you can driver there in one day but not worth a very long drive. But an absolute must if you are a big Dogfish fan.“

“The noise of construction may prove distracting (we heard jackhammers prior to the tour) but you’re not there to relax and have a beer, you’re there to visit a legend. And the fact that they’ve kept Sam’s old machinery here and there makes it a bit like a modern-day beer museum, someday future generations may see that stuff at the Smithsonian! John gives a very informative tour, and he has a great answer for every question. I was delighted at the sample size, but it would have been nice to have had the option to have had more than four samples. Still, they pulled out the good stuff for sampling, I cannot fault them there! On some products, they give a nice case discount, and with no tax or deposit, that makes it a pretty good deal for those driving in from high-tax (cough, New York, cough) states, as well as a great visit through the beauty of Delaware.“
