“Visited in February of 2017 with my sister and her family. Nicely converted old factory, has different levels to it. Food was all right, pub grub menu with a nod to the local college population. A nice amount of taps that reflect regional and local craft. Went at night, so I did not get to enjoy the deck ofr the views.“

“Located in the same area as Midnight Oil. Industrial park setting. Modern, spacious taproom, bright. Decent crowd on a Sunday. Tap list seemed focused on IPAs and heavier beers. Great, efficient service. Beer quality varied.“

“Storefront bottle shop in downtown Newark. Narrow but deep. Coolers with some taps at the back. Growler/ crowler fills only, but you can get a taste. Small selection of local and regional brews. Friendly staff, good service.“

“Their website and sign on Door says open 10am on Sundays. On way home from Ocean city got here 10:10am and it was closed. I stopped in close by Peach Blossom Eatery and got a nice Stout for my Delaware beer. Ratebeer won't let me add that location though, so this is it. Great food their too. After 11am stopped back to The Growler and it was still closed.“

“This is a fairly large place in a nondescript industrial park about a 10-15 minute drive from the main drag of Newark, DE. The tables were fortunately pretty spread out so during the Omicron peak we were able to avoid other people. The beer selection is nice and includes a lot of beers that are not pastry stouts or NEIPAs. They seem to want to focus a lot on barrel-ageing as there are many barrels around. Although it is not advertised, you can get one-off small pours of everything. There are also cans and a bunch of bottles for sale. Very dog friendly and pretty kid friendly as well. Two small TVs were playing football on a Sunday. Apparently they got bands and food trucks sometimes, but I had not seen those either time I was there.“

“Nice place! My son and I hit it up on Father’s Day and apparently doggo day Sunday. Located in a business park situation. Midnight Oil a few blocks away. Plenty of seating. No bar really. Garage doors for nice weather. Brewery right there on the floor. Sort of an industrial thing. Looked like a Foerdor hanging out there too! Good beers, good selection. Plenty of parking. Service was fine. Pissery was well maintained also. Food is from trucks so something different every time. Nice joint! I’ll be back!“

“I have been going here for roughly 2 years. Local place for me, just across the state line. Good vibe, just a big commercial building that has open garage type doors with a small bar and some seats/tables. Beer wise, house and year round beers are respectable. Seasonals are good. Sours are really good. Usually have a food truck available most days. Kid and dog friendly. Local music. Can and crowlers to go. Overall, good product, good customer service, I hope they do well and keep on brewing.“

“Located in an industrial park, brewery has plenty of space to expand and offers a small taproom in front. Standard interior for a taproom, small tables and a bar, big chalkboard. No real patio, but there is a picnic table out front. Pretty solid lineup of taps, a wide range of styles. Food trucks available almost every evening. Parking not an issue.“

“Decent stop in a strip mall about 15 minutes from the MD state line. Big pizza place, with 8 house taps. Flights of 5 available for $12, a little steep. Beer quality ranged from average to pretty good, with nothing mind-blowing. Some creative brews in there, which is nice to see. Service is a bit abrupt, but prompt and no BS. Worth a stop if passing through the area.“

“Been here twice now. The brewery (beer and design) are almost a catalogue of new tap rooms. No food, handful of taps. Lots of wood and metal, clean, bare walls. They do have a window into the giant brewing space behind the tap room. Also a Playstation and an arcade to entertain yourself. Located in a gianormous industrial park. They try to do events, which can be fun. The beer is most mediocre and underwhelming as you can get. Lots of cool swag though.“

“Its hard to tell the Iron Hills apart. Just like the rest, big, modern, cold, a bit too corporate feeling. Food a bit too pricey and beer-to-go always to expensive. Parking is a bit more difficult in downtown Newark but the area is fun. Beer quality seems to be highly dependent on brewer working at that time at a specific location. But tap list is large. You will definitely see more families than college kids here.“

“Been here a few times since moving to the area. It is probably the best brewery within 35 minutes of my house. Its in a pizza place and small. I will say there consistency is an issue. They tend to rotate quickly and brew lots of styles (not just IPAs). I have had the gambit of off flavors to very well made beer. Worth more than one stop. The food is better than corporate fair but for pizza families and pub fare. They have music and the inside has its own unique identity (not cold or fake). End of strip mall in an area of strip malls. If I need one stop off I-95 in the DE/MD border area, I'd definitely recommend this place.“

“This is, of course, a very famous location for people even remotely from the area, and I really like the newest iteration. It’s clean, shiny, perhaps a touch gentrified, but the service is top-notch and the place smells better than the old Balloon ever did. Love the red stone bar, studded bar chairs. Open and airy with some music memorabilia on the walls (but I hope they’ll play up the history even more). Tap list not outstanding but pretty easy to find something enjoyable, and they’re a rare old liquor license in DE with bottles, growlers, and crowlers for takeaway and on-site -- the beer is well cared for and regarded. The food is superb, though: I recommend stopping in even if you’re not drinking. Shame I don’t get down to Newark as much anymore; this is a good one. [2017.06.30: 90]“

“Relatively new reincarnation of 16 mile tap house, this is so much better than that it is almost comical..personally from someone who eats on Main St pretty frequently, hands down this is the best food on Main St, used to think Iron Hill would keep the torch, but it has been passed, everything is tasty and well crafted, the apps, mains, sandwiches, desserts are very well done..beer selection is decent with 17 taps that they keep updated on beermenus via there website, plus a decent bottle list with some nice things as well..happy hour is nice weekday and weekend from 2-5, with food/beer/cocktail specs, the vibe inside is cool with old memorabilia from all of the bands that have played Stone Balloon in years past, one wall has all the names very cleverly designed..recently started filling crowlers as well, one of the few spots in DE to do so, short rib fries, crab tots, burgers, shrimp scampi, crab cakes are highly recommended, if you are looking for the best food on Main St with an above average beer selection for DE this is your place, only complaint is now that the scaffolding is gone from front the outside patio is quite sunny and exposed, perhaps they will install a stellar awning to remedy this, try it out, very solid spot, as long as the current award winning chef is in the mix..“

“spot located in Sheraton lobby..they advertised happy hour 7 days a week but upon walking in..big chalk board lists no weekend happy hour..this was the start of a sub par experience...no servers at all as the bartender covers the whole place, so service is spotty..bartender doesn’t really know much about craft beer..they did have a few decent taps and pricing was ok..dirt wolf for 6 bucks and some other decent local options...the food menu is tiny, they had NO specials at all..salads were the best part of the meal..ordered a medium burger and it was way overcooked..burger wasn’t of any quality either..this is essentially a bar in the back of a hotel lobby so interactions with all sorts of characters and loud people seem to be the norm..this place really isn’t worthy of a visit, since there are much better options in town and of course at 2SP....“

“Went on a Saturday and had about a 40 minute wait for a table. I had a Victory Dirt Wolf (nitro) while we waited. Tap list wasn’t too interesting with only a few things that I wanted to drink and everything on it was pretty standard for the area. 7 of 20 taps were IPAs or DIPAs. I really like IPAs but would prefer variety. I had the Grain burger and it was very good albeit a little small. The fries were good but also a small portion. The server was nice enough and the bartender and other server I talked to were indifferent. I had a nitro Old Chub with dinner, both drafts cost $8 for about a 12 oz pour (I’m guessing on the size but it was small). I was surprised to see a bunch of sixtels instead of half kegs by the bar. Someone who appeared to be in a higher position of management overheard me talking to my partner at the bar and commented that they don’t have space for half kegs once they are empty. That seems like a large oversight for a "craft" beer bar considering sixtels generally aren’t a very good deal. I felt the drafts and bottles/cans were a bit too expensive. I would not come back here to drink, but I could come here once or twice a year for food. I liked it more when it was the East End Cafe or Mojo on Main. While the food was really tasty the experience felt corporate and forced. I would consider this place a craft beer bar more in name then in spirit.“

“new place on old site of East End Cafe/Mojo on Main..quite large patio on the outside which is the best feature of this place.set up is kind of odd with almost 2 separate sections with 2 different bars..tvs play all kind of sports..beer selection is ok..they have about 20 taps I would say..nothing too out of the ordinary but some decent offerings..beer list is trying to copy some other establishments with a 4 square grid setup..definitely could use more taps and bottle offerings..food is well priced and looked tasty..didn’t eat this time but will sure come back and check out eats during happy hour..plenty of parking in the long lot in the back..nice new addition to the Main St scene who will hopefully improve their beer selection“

“A top place for beer in Delaware but unfortunately limited to Delaware beer distribution. It gets really crowded in here expect to wait for a table and often it is impossible to find a seat at the bar. The food is usually really good but it isn’t cheap. The service has always been top notch. If you are driving through Delaware on I 95 stop in here and State Line Liquors, skip the toll and see what the local beer scene is capable of.“

“Visited 04/02/15. A nice gastropub located in a strip mall. It’s an easily accessible place from I-95, making it a strong candidate for a stop if you’re travelling and need a quick beer or bite to eat. This place is clearly very popular with locals. I struggled to score a seat at the bar during my dinnertime visit. I didn’t eat, but the food looked pretty good. The draft selection was strong. The 25ish taps featured plenty of Dogfish and Brooklyn. Other regional stuff filled out the list. Service was generally friendly. Prices seemed fine. Overall, this is a good local spot. Definitely worth checking out.“

“A very unusual live stage, pizza joint with a craft brewery all rolled into one in a pretty hodge podge sort of manner. Service was decent but nothing special. Selection was 5 beers on tap all which were pretty bad except one which was sublime. Food is a bit greasy and prices are a bit high for what it is. I would say skip it, but the one beer we had was so good that is almost worth a stop on the change they have more fluky genius.“

“Clean place in a shopping center. Decent selection some not available to me here in Merlund. Prices seemed a touch higher than what i normally pay but not too bad. Growler pricing was cool. Poor older gentleman that poured my growler had a tough time with it foaming. His idea of filling another growler and pouring it into mine was quite wasteful. He finally hot it filled though. “fairly new growler/beer/liquor store on Main Street in Newark, somewhat surprised they were able to get this license for this location? Has 50 taps so a wide assortment of offerings, however their are some major downsides, growler prices seem astronomically high, selection is limited as it is Delaware distribution, parking is a problem, don’t know if they vaildate parking? but that would be a plus. You can sample prior to purchase here which isn’t legal at many places in DE. They really could use an electronic board that visually displays taplists in the store, because laminated pieces of paper don’t really suffice. Had a few better offerings recently such as La Folie, Dirt Wolf, Space Dust, however most of the stuff is not that exciting. However, there online website does have current up to date taplists. Also sell some cold 6ers to go, some large format bottles and also liquor offerings. The location and idea is solid, but the prices need to come way down and the selection needs to improve..overall hope this place succeeds though.“

Single prices seem a tad high but i have only been here once and it was rather briefly. They do growler fills and the prices seemed a bit more than what i am used to at my local but still competitive. Found a 6r of SNCA there and thats all i was lookin for at the time. “10/26/2014 - Small brewpub in a little strip mall with ample parking. Strange bar area design with a zig zagging bar. Don’t know how many house beers they normally have on tap but unfortunately they only had one house beer available during my visit, apparently due to a festival they were having the next day. Bummer. A few guest beers available including stuff from Maryland’s Evolution. The one house beer I tried was average and could use some fine tuning. Tried the Sicilian pizza which was good. Friendly service. A bit pricey but I wouldn’t mind coming back next time I’m in the area, hopefully next time they’ll have more of their beers on.

12/2/2016 revisit around 1 PM on a Friday. Much more business than my previous visit two years ago, plenty of open bar seats. Very friendly bartender, just the one working the entire bar but he was fairly attentive. This time they had 8 of their own beers on tap, got a flight of 5 and sampled what I missed from a friend. You could probably get the remainder for however much single tasters cost. Their beers were all above average with a couple standouts, definitely much better than the one I had two years ago. Had the buffalo chicken eggrolls and a chipotle burger medium, probably should have gotten it medium rare. Nothing too special but both hit the spot for lunch. My friend loved his scrapple medium rare burger. Fair prices. Worth a stop if passing through Newark or Wilmington, nice stop paired with Iron Hill.“

“Nice little brewpub in downtown Newark, DE. First location I’ve visited of the chain. Standard brewpub appearance with a decent sized bar and plenty of tables. Pretty nice selection of their beers on tap and one cask. Beers were mostly above average with a couple stand outs. Food was good with a variety of things to choose from. 4 ounce taster pours are available individually for $1.50 or as part of a sampler set. Good value and service. There are a few pay-to-park lots with free validation available from Iron Hill for up to 90 minutes. Could definitely see myself coming back whenever I’m in that area of Delaware.“

“Ah, now this is a classic Mid-Atlantic pizza joint (and small music venue), if a bit roomier: comfy, dark, soap-sticky tables, and lots of hard-earned character; the big difference? The food was very good.

Oh, and they have beer on on a very small scale -- a quick look at the equipment in back and I’m surprised to learn they’re operating at 1.5bbl, seems like half-that. On the plus side to the size, every new batch can be different, as space frees up quickly, and they’ve taken to the spirit of innovation. Hits and misses among the flights, but all the beers had something slightly unusual about them and I admire the full-developed body and mouthfeel that seems to be standard -- no watery brewpub fare here.

Above all, friendly people and honestly, if I may be so bold, good people. I’ll be back.“

Service was decent though our waitress was pretty much clueless to what beers were listed on the drinks menu. She couldnt tell me if they were light or dark. The house beer was not available or so she said. Food was ok, pretty tame stuff. We just had sandwiches. Decent draft list, a dozen or so beers and the bottle list wasnt too shabby either.
