72 /100 UNIT 1 THE OLD KENNELS, CIRENCESTER PARK, TETBURY ROAD Relaxed and friendly brewery tap within the old kennels complex on the Bathurst Estate, a handy car park has been set up close by. There is courtyard seating plus an indoor area with the brewery and service area in a further room to the rear. All beers on sale are Corinium, all gravity fed from cask. There is a lovely feel to this place. |
76 /100 Hop Kettle (Bar) 4 THE WOOLMARKET A recent addition to the Hop Kettle Brewery estate in a town that really needed something like this. It's within a small open air shopping precinct, just off the market square. Lots of bench seating inside plus an outdoor seating area for warmer times. The beers are all Hop Kettle but with a good long and varied list. Friendly and welcoming, tastings are offered straight away. This becomes our new favourite pub in town and well worth a visit. |
56 /100 Dobbies Garden Centre Cirencester (Beer Store) SIDDINGTON Impressive selection of beers and food for a garden centre. Lots of Scottish beers and ciders here like Black Isle, Harviestoun etc. |
62 /100 Dobbies Garden Centre Cirencester (Beer Store) SIDDINGTON Visited 12/7/2019. Check-in. Review to follow. Around 100 different beers and ciders, split half and half Scotland and elsewhere. |
50 /100 Porter's Cafe Bar (Bar) 34 CASTLE STREET The new kid in town for Cirencester. This used to be a wine bar type place but now revamped to a more pubby feel. The bar is to the left as you enter, 6 hand pumps and a similar number of kegs, unfortunately the keg beers show little imagination, the interest lies more withing the cask range. The pub has a comfortable cafe feel, wood and sofas with solid tables and chairs too. It attracts a younger crowd on my visit. Handily close to The Marlborough. |
54 /100 Bear (Bar) 12 DYER STREET Centrally located popular pub right by the Market area in an unusual type of building, possibly an old coaching inn. Recently refurbished with a resulting improvement in the beer choice although not that great a choice for the seasoned hunter. Food lead indoors, the sunny patio at the front is the place to be given good weather. Worth a try. |
44 /100 Hare (St Austell) (Restaurant) 3 GOSDITCH STREET Visited 09/04/17 Quite a new establishment in Cirencester with St. Austell brewery using the branding of the recently acquired Bath Ales. They serve just the 2 breweries beers with no apparent guest beers. The garden is a pleasant place to relax, a bit manic inside mostly with diners. Dog friendly. |
44 /100 Golden Cross (Arkells) (Bar) 20 BLACK JACK STREET Nice looking pub. The beer however was in poor condition. Quite expensive. If you want to try Arkells beer I would look elsewhere. |
32 /100 Corinium Hotel (Bar) 12 GLOUCESTER STREET Aug ’15 Rating - 54. This was certainly more friendly on this visit. The beers were in decent form on this visit.
Jun ’14 Rating - 44. Rather smart hotel at the northern end of Cirencester. The beers were somewhat ropey on my latest visit unfortunately, but we have had decent in the past. It is very hushed and restrained in the lounge, where the bar is, the best option is the garden if the weather is good, the garden is very relaxing. Not the best spot in Cirencester but worth a look. |
52 /100 Twelve Bells (Bar) 12 LEWIS LANE Aug 2015 - 52. The beer choice is at a low ebb, just the Ciren Ales on this occasion with no changes to range. Surly service. June 2014 - 70. Once a very traditional pub with the previous (late) Landlord, RIP, delivering a fine line of sarcasm, now the pub has been tidied up, there is a smartened interior offering up market dining. The brewery is through the back in a shed at the top end of the pretty garden. They appear to carry 2 of their own beers at any one time, the bitter plus a latest seasonal, then there are 2 guests available. Just off the town centre but no more than a 10 minute walk. |
74 /100 Marlborough Arms (Bar) SHEEP STREET. Rating Aug 2015 - 74. The pub is looking just a little tired and worn now. Very much a locals pub. Still the best choice in Cirencester.
Rating Jun 2014 - 80. Recently revamped, in a good way, into a Real Ale and Cider haven just off the town centre, but nicely close to the Caravan Club site. It is a single roomed pub but with plenty of nooks and crannies to settle into, there is also a small patio area out the back, where the cider shed resides. The beers are largely sourced from the South West area and the ciders vary in number from 8 up to 15 when events are held. It is the local CAMRA pub of the year for 2014, which is a great achievement in their first year, hopefully this will go from strength to strength. The food is of the Pub Grub variety, which is ok when most of the competition is going for fine dining at much higher prices. Simply the best pub in Cirencester currently. |
44 /100 Golden Cross (Arkells) (Bar) 20 BLACK JACK STREET A much improved pub from a previous visit, many moons ago, it now looks clean and modern, opened out. There is a drinking area to the front luckily as much of the rear of the pub is for dining from quite an up market, bistro type menu. The small garden looks quite good. The beer is all from the Arkells range but does include their latest seasonal beers. All in all quite a pleasant place to visit. |
50 /100 Golden Cross (Arkells) (Bar) 20 BLACK JACK STREET Very clean and modern decor, obviously very busy and popular place particularly for food. Range of beers not bad and bar staff knowledgeable. Nice little beer garden out back. |
60 /100 Corinium Hotel (Bar) 12 GLOUCESTER STREET We visited here on 28th May 2011. The hotel is a shortish walk from the centre but is worth it, serving 3-4 real ales, the ones that we had were very good and and in great nick. The garden looked nice but as we entered from the Gloucester Street end through the passage we were unable to access the garden as we had our bikes with us. Nice place. |
