“Welcoming place near the cathedral. Busy on a Friday afternoon, I was lucky to get a seat. Ten beers on cask, including roughly 50% guest beers. Everything I tried was in great condition. There are 6 or 7 keg lines also, plus a huge selection of craft cans. A lovely, cosy, friendly pub - easily my favourite on a recent trip to Gloucester.“

“Worth going to have nosey around as it's a nicely restored old building. Just the usual Sam Smiths range available.“

“Odd place, kind of a micropub but with three very prominent macro keg fobs serving the awful kind of lager that anyone can get anywhere. Cask available on gravity, choice of 3 or 4 on my visit. The beer was served in good condition. But I found the place cliquey and unwelcoming, a host of locals surrounding the bar (including the owner) whilst his wife served behind the bar. The 'banter' was sexist & misogynistic. I doubt I'll be back.“

“Nice waterside location in the docks area, which has seen lots of regeneration recently. Around 10 beers pouring on cask and keg. I sampled two, one mundane and one very decent. My only complaints about B&K venues is that they all reek of wort, and too many beers are bang average.“

“Warehouse space containing the brewery & taproom, situated by the docks. The taproom space is laid out with picnic benches. It's a self serve bar, where you put credit on a card which then allows you to pour any beer in any quantity. It was a cold (and quiet) space at lunchtime on Friday a couple of weeks back but judging by the amount of table reservations it livens up once the work crowd come in.“

“Fairly decent Spoons up near the docks. There's been plenty of redevelopment around the area. Beer list wasn't too bad, I found two new ticks“

“A micropub in as much as the beers are served straight from the barrel, the Turk's Head works a lot better now that the bar has been moved from the front room. It was busy the last time I visited, on 3 January 2020, when there were three beers on offer at the cheap price of £2.50 a pint. The cider and perry range is a lot wider, with around 20, mainly from Thatchers and Westons, but with a few unusual Gloucestershire examples as well. The atmosphere was friendly and service efficient. Worth a visit.“

“Beautiful building though heavily renovated inside so a bit too clean. Have the basics on tap, including the stout and mild (excellent) as well as bitter on hand pump. No Stingo, Impy stout etc etc in bottles or on tap (as apparently they don't sell well down this way). 7 rooms to check out and a patio area. Rough and ready with a helping of charm.“

“Friendly place. 6 beers and loads of Ciders on Gravity pour. Ramshackle place but also very comfortable. Best place for a beer in Gloucester. Bigger than expected - plenty of space for a sit and chat.“

“I like this chain a lot based on the ones I've been to so far. This particular one is in an ideal waterfront location in the much-gentrified Gloucester Docks (although you'll find it difficult to get a window seat in the evenings). They have about eight of their own brews from the in-house microbrewery (split between cask and keg) alongside a moderate range of other, fairly common craft beer and world lagers (in keg, bottles and cans). When I was there they also had a cider festival on, with quite a few ciders I'd never seen before. The staff are very friendly and generally knowledgeable about the brews they're serving. The food is the usual American BBQ stuff you get at places like this, although tastier and better cooked than many - our barbeque platter sharer was very enjoyable (despite being served on a stupid hipster tin tray). Overall I like this branch just as much as I've liked others of theirs, and would certainly return here if I was in Gloucester again.“

“Visited 18/6/2019. Not the best JDW’s, really not keen on the atmosphere - seemed rougher than the average ‘spoons. Beer range a little stunted too. Service was pleasant though with typically keen prices and food menu.“

“Visited 18/6/2019. Lovely old pub near cathedral, definitely one to seek out if in Gloucester. Good selection of house beers. Good number of ciders too. Friendly locals. Some staff weren’t especially welcoming but that aside very much enjoyed the visit.“

“Visited 11/6/2019. Prominent waterfront location in the old docks area with outside seating which would have been nice to use if it hadn’t been pouring with rain. 9 of their own beers on when visiting, as usual with a B&K they were fair to pretty good, plus there’s a few guest taps and some fridges with largely what you’d see at any other. Shame the stout had run out, that was the one I most wanted to try. Service was very good. Food decent. In a place with generally limited options, this is certainly worth seeking out.“

“Nice waterside location. Beer brewed on site. Best beer selection found in Gloucester - 9 of their own, another 12 or so draught lines and 50 bottles.“

“Didn't eat, so have given middling score. Given how rude one member of staff was I wouldn't have wanted to. No local beer available - preferring to stock Greene King when I visited. Entrance to venue and the well are the highlights really. Better beer and service across the way at the micropub.“

“Large, historic pub in the centre of Gloucester, much needed after the disasters of The Dick Whittington and The Lower George. It is a comfortable, calm place, rather up market but with a reasonable range of cask beer. It's worth a look if nearby.“

“This is a large, old building on Westgate Street, prominent in position, easy to find. There is a large bar on entering with a vast array of handpumps, not one of them had a beer on when we visited, a complete blank, little wonder that we were the only people in sight. Crazy way to run a pub, we didn't linger.“

“This is a locals pub in the Cathedral area of town, down a little back street. Chucking it down at the time of our visit so we were pleased to get into the warm and friendly indoors. The pub rambles round a bar to the back of the front room, lots of cubby holes to investigate. The beer range consists of their own Wye Valley range plus a few guests, they were very pleased with the Cloudwater Mild they had on. It's well worth seeking out in Gloucester and certainly the stand out pub in the northern part of the city.“

“Handily placed between the docks area and the town centre this pub links the 2 areas. Described as a micro pub but it's rather big for the style. There is a room to the front which you need to go through to get to the bar in the next room, there are a few other rooms off of the bar but we left those for another day. The beer is dispensed from casks in the corner by a chatty, friendly bar girl. Plenty of seating and plenty of chat. It's well worth a visit.“

“Typical of this chain, this is modern and open, plenty of seating for diners and drinkers alike. It is right on the waterfront in a prime position if the sun is shining, unfortunately it was cats and dogs outside on our visit so we all huddled around the table burner. They have a German Brewhouse feel in my opinion. Worth a visit.“

“Visited on a cold and wet Thursday lunchtime in April and this proved to be a warm and welcoming Wetherspoons. High ceilings, warming fire to the front, comfy and abundant staff. Fortunately their Festival was in full flow so plenty of beers to choose from. As this chain goes this is one of the better ones we have visited. Pleasantly free of the weirdo's Brexit rants and nicely situated next to The Tank.“

“We called in here at the start of our pub crawl by coach of pubs along the river Severn so that we could have a breakfast and it was a tidy JDW outlet, with a lot of tables with high seats - a bit difficult for the older generation. We did settle down with prompt breakfast and coffee before having a look at the beers on offer. As well as the usual offerings they had Moles Rucking Mole, Conwy Scrum Down and Battledown Amber which we chose and enjoyed.“

“NIcely restored historic building in the centre of Gloucester, with a wood framed facade and brickwork to the rear, where there is a suntrap patio. A multi-roomed interior serving the usual mix of Sam Smith’s beers, including OBB from the wood. A good value and pleasant pub.“

“My favourite pub in Gloucester. A decent selection of Wye Valley beers is on offer, served in good condition by friendly bar staff. As of 2018, there are also 2 or 3 guest beers on sale too, from the likes of Mallinsons, Salopian and Bristol Beer Factory. Gets busy when Gloucester RFC are playing at home. Runs beer festivals in February and June with three bars in operation during the latter and well chosen lists from around the country. There is a happy hour from 5 to 6pm when the Wye Valley beers are sold at a large discount.“

“Canalside brewpub on the edge of the dock complex and just around the corner from Tank. There were eight of its own beers on offer when last visited, and both the stouts were very pleasant. Service was friendly and ambience fine. Worth a look.“

“Visited on 28th July 2016. City Centre Spoons which is huge, 2 levels and a patio so plenty of space and seating. Had a decent range of beers on cask with local beers plus a couple of the collab specials. Service was decent, prices were low and beer quality good. Thought this was a decent Spoons, handy for the station so might pop back.“

“Visited on 28th July 2016. Lovely old looking pub set back off a main street in the city centre, had a blues band playing in the court yard, plenty of seating outside including a horse drawn carriage (minus the horse). Inside was a little more disappointing, 6 beers on cask of which all bar one were national brands, opted for the interesting option, Twisted Nomad, beer was well kept, prices decent enough and service OK. Lovely pub, wouldn’t rush back.“

“Roomy JDW pub near the train and bus stations. Some cask ales on, reasonably priced - and for food the usual JDW pub grub - can’t remember if I ate there though, the menu is the same everywhere.“

“Arkells pub across the street from the Tall Ships, which I liked better. Had a rather pedestrian Arkells Moonlight. The barmaid was not very welcoming, and the selection seemed to be limited to a few Arkells ales - okay if you need the ticks. Very quiet when I visited in the early afternoon.Did not eat. There are nicer pubs in Gloucester.“

“Spent a few days here during world cup enjoying football & beers from Gloucester brewery, only few places I’ve ever seen it. Huge, busy, bustling place, typical JDW, friendly attractive all-girl team serving customers non-stop, all beers less than £2 a pint! Handy for shopping. Really enjoyed this place“

“Large JDW in a converted cinema, with the Lloyds dance floor which I find detracts from the atmosphere during the day. Beer range is conservative and focuses on the national brands offered by Wetherspoons, plus the odd local ale. Ok in a city which doesn’t have many quality pubs.“
