“Not a beer destination!!! 2 beers on tap, Modelo and Swamp Head Big Nose and a small bottle list, the only "craft beer" is Yuengling! The service and food we're great though. It's worth the stop for the food, but not the beer. The Al Pastor is amazing!“

“Not sure why this is in RB, but when it was added it was probably the place to go. 3 beers in tap, and about 8 canned beers, nothing I haven't seen around town. Sandwiches looked good though.“

“A busy U shaped bar and restaurant on an early Friday night. They have a big patio in the back with 2 bars (only 1 open tonight). Good service for how busy it is. Didn't eat. Worth the stop.“

“Nice old brick building, but a drive bar. Lots of seating at the bar and tables. Small patio in front on the sidewalk. Big tap and bottle list, mostly Florida & East Coast beers. Full bar. Food smelt good but I didn't eat. Worth the stop. My last sip there was a big floater of something in my glass. Maybe not worth the stop after all. Was going to have another beer, but left.“

“Nice location. Lots of seating outside & inside. 24 taps, mostly house beers but a few taps are wine, seltzer and kombucha. Not impressed with any of the beers, but they were not bad. A couple coolers of beer to go.“

“This is located at Holiday Inn on University Ave. 40 taps of mostly Florida beers, the rest is good/solid craft beer. A small cooler that is packed with bottles/cans. Good, friendly service. The pizza looks good, we ended up getting the lasagna with was outstanding. Decent prices.“

“A converted garage warehouse with a great feel to it (why has it taken two years for anyone from ratebeer to visit?). One side mostly open with a long bar, plenty of seating, and an outdoor patio with strings of white Christmas lights. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beers are good to excellent traditional styles, with a few experimentals. Flights are available @ $2 per 4 oz. pour. We were there on a Saturday night, which meant a good positive-energy crowd, a food truck with far better than average brick-fired oven pizza, and live light jazz. This is a "must stop" if you are anywhere in the area, worth an hour-long drive. Highly recommended.“

“Incredibly cool facility, except for the mucky pond. Cool cypress-based taproom, neat flint thresher on the wall - I'd never seen one of those before, hadda figure out what it was - hyper clean facility. Stopped in on a late winter day (full-on spring in Gainesville) and the weather was spectacular. Outdoor grassy area was nice, though adjacent to the aforementioned pond. If you're on I-75, and have an hour, this is a convenient and high quality stop. They had all their usual brews, and a few specials, maybe a total of 12 taps. They've got about 6 to 8 canned brews (including the Warmouth barleywine, I'm glad they had cans since I abstained from the tap version due to driving) and they do growlers. They sell halves. Beer quality is generally very solid, though I've grown to hate their honey cream ale. Scotch ale, browns are very good.“

“Must stop in Gainesville or for anyone passing by on I75 (within earshot of the interstate). This is a really beautiful brewery with a great outdoor space...very large lawn to enjoy plus a great patio. Inside it’s also big...and a beautiful space with kind of a swamp/everglades/nature theme. There is a large use of cypress wood...which is totally appropriate for the theme. It’s hard not to like the brewery. As for the beer...well it’s been around in Florida for quite a few years...so it’s well known. I can’t say all their regular beers are great or anything (some are very good)...but a number of their specials and one-off’s deserve greater attention. I would say if you are a casual craftbeer fan...you’ll like their beers...their regulars are designed to be sold all over the state in cans and on draft. On the other hand...true craftbeer fans...especially well traveled ones...may not be quite as impressed overall..."but" I’m pretty sure you will find some beers here you like. Visit here and nearby First Magnitude for a very satisfying Gainesville one-two punch.“

“Pretty darn decent brewery in Gainesville...named after the type of spring with the greatest flow..."first magnitude" (lots of springs in central Florida). Really nice space in an old warehouse...with room for more brewing equipment...a huge picnic-tabled space in front of the brewing equipment...along with a large taproom and a two outdoor spaces...a small one up front near that day’s food truck...and a big shady one outback with a small stage. There were "20" taps when I visited...all seemed flowing (a small number were guest taps). I was there shortly after a Christmas special event where they debuted a number of barrel aged beers...a few of which were still on tap. I found their beers to be good to very good depending on your preference. Nothing bad...and nothing blew me away that day...but it seemed to me they were more than capable of making even better beers than the ones I sampled that day. First Magnitude is a must stop when in the area...I’m sure you’ll like the place...and more than likely enjoy a number of their beers.“

“Visited here in late December ’16 while on my way home on a business trip. Slightly below par with other Total Wines I have been to across the state. A few aisles of beer to choose from, like most TWs a whole aisle full of craft singles on one side and common imports on the other, but not quite the selection found in South Florida locations - I realize they are probably limited due to thier distributors. Decent selection of seasonals which was nice, found a Gouden Carolus Christmas Ale that I was looking for for a gift. Appear to be putting in a growler station, but not operational yet and they also have a large are devoted to class space. Solid retailer, decent prices, nice friendly service. Kind of jealous Gainesville got one of these before Tallahassee,“

“Thought I had rated this already...small store with the beer crammed in one side. Wine seems the priority, at least when I was in. Nobody really trying to help, but they were setting up for a wine tasting of sorts. Decent selection of stuff you won’t find on shelves in most other FL places. They were the only place to have Pretty Things before they pretend-stopped-brewing to get the pity. Other than that brewer they had some decent selections.“

“Visited here in early March ’16 while in the area for business. Spacious tap room located adjacent to their brewing facility. Has a "spring" (as in water) oriented them - the name first magnitude refers to a type of spring common in the area. Lots of spring oriented pictures on the wall etc. Has a standing bar and several butcher block tables as well as seating outside. Have their four regulars on tap as well as rotating selections and some one-off barrel aged brews. About a half dozen guest taps as well. Sizes range from 6 oz all the way up to growlers. All I had were tasty and fresh. Barkeeps were friendly, talkative and knowledgeable. If in the Gainesville area, a definite must visit.“

“Set in a weird location in the back of an industrial area, which also allows for spacious parking and plenty of outdoor space. The setting and building itself is pretty cool as there is a little pond with a big grassy area. Inside there is a lot of wood (I am guessing cypress?). Nice mix of modern and rustic. Their beers offered on tap provided for a satisfactory range of styles. Average prices, if not just a tad bit high. Most of the beers were pretty pedestrian but the Pumpkin Spice Latte was awesome. Certainly an enjoyable experience that I would recommend if in the Gainesville area.“

“Pretty cool little place that has a few beers on tap and some seating outside to enjoy a brew or two. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The space is split into a craft beer section, a wine section and they had some cigars too. The selection wasn’t massive but everything they had was quality and there were quite a few rare beers. Average prices. If I lived in Gainesville this would be my go-to place for sure.“

“This is actually a pretty cool brewery and tasting room. Set waaay back in a business park area, but it’s a nice, large, modern looking building. They actually do have a bit of a swamp outside with a little pond and stuff you can see from the tasting room. Maybe they get some gators out there…

Pretty clean and modern feel to the inside as well. They do a flight of their normal, year round offerings and it’s pretty cheap. Seasonals and special beers are available by full pour only, which is a little annoying. Beers were okay for the most part. I preferred their hoppy offerings.

They also have some games in the brewhouse (like corn hole), but it’s a little unpleasant in there since it’s not air conditioned. I understand why, but it’s already hot and humid since it’s a brewery…but then it’s even worse because it’s a brewery in Florida.

A positive experience all around and worth a visit if you’re in Gainesville. Just note that they don’t have TVs here, so if you wanted to drink some beers and watch a game or something, you can’t do it here. I noticed this when the entire place emptied about 30 minutes before a UF football game.“

“Warehouse facility that is definitely a bit outside of the main part of Gainesville/downtown area. They have a pretty big brewhouse/storage facility and a good sized tasting room that is (thankfully) air-conditioned. Plenty of space out back as well with picnic tables and trees and such. Could be a cool place to hangout, for sure.

A whole lot of beers on tap here. They have four year round/standard offerings and then just a bunch of seasonal and pilot batches, as well as guest beers. Beers are available in 6, 10, and 16 pours. So, a flight of four 6 ounce beers is quite a bit. The flights are kind of price (the four standards is $8) and then they go up depending on which of the other two you choose (one has two fixed beers and you choose the others, the other is all four are up to you). Some beers are also only available in a 10 ounce pour, for instance...odd structure to the whole thing.

The people were friendly enough and the beers were pretty decent, I thought. Kind of unfortunate for them to not be closer to the college crowd, but seems like they’re doing just fine.“

“Came here for a show as well. Small Mexican-ish restaurant which has a nice patio area and is also sort of attached to a pool hall. Show was in the outdoor portion.

Wouldn’t really say this is a beer place, though they do have some good options. Stuff from Swamp Head and Cigar City are probably the highlights, though other local/regional beers are available. Seems more people were drinking PBR and Tecate (or cocktails) though.

Friendly people, cool and good food. Neat place.“

“Nice brick building in the downtown area. Came here for a show, so not sure how the place normally is during a lunch or dinner or whatever. It was also full of crusty punk rock kids slamming $3 pint cans of PBR, so possibly different from the normal crowd...probably a little bit nicer, if nothing else.

A little patio area out front with some tables and fenced off from the street/sidewalk. Inside is a little small in the main bar and dining area, but they do have a pretty good sized bar full of all the necessary libations. A sizable and rather solid draft list. Mostly local, Florida breweries here, which is neat. They do have some macros and a few of the larger micros (Sam Adams, Sierra, Bells). Service was excellent.

Food menu here looked pretty nice and they have good prices on beers and food alike.“

“Seems to be a pretty happening bar and restaurant. Decent sized dining room and a good amount of patio space as well as a large bar area. Kind of dark and perhaps a bit of a mid-century feel to it in general, but doesn’t feel dated.

Full bar with plenty of cocktails to be had as well as a selection of wines. Beer list was extensive as well with at least 30 different options. I believe pints only here, which is kind of to be expected since it’s just a normal restaurant. That said, some of the beers are pretty interesting like Prairie 3rd Anniversary, a barrel aged IPA from Sixpoint, oak aged Oktoberfest from Two Brothers...so not just your run of the mill stuff (though they have that too). Definitely some beers available from the local Gainesville breweries.

Pretty cool place. Would definitely recommend popping in for a drink or two, and possibly dinner.“

Pop A Top (Beer Store)

“Small grocery/convenience store right in the middle of the downtown area, so definitely convenient in terms of location.

Not really a huge selection of beers here, but surprisingly good. A number of imports from places like Mikkeller, Trois Dames, De La Senne, De Molen, and some of the more typical things like St. Bernardus. A decent selection of Florida beers such as some of the year round offerings from Cigar City and the like, but nothing really mind blowing, but I suppose that’s probably not the intention here.

They have sandwiches and some good looking foods. Also a number of vegetarian dishes (I was honestly a bit surprised how vegan/vegetarian friendly Gainesville is). Some craft sodas available in the cooler as well.

Neat little store. Might as well pop in if you’re wandering around the area.“

“Visited here in mid September ’15 on my home from a business trip. Nice decor, very roomy with high ceilings and a few TVs placed around the rooms and a huge 4 in 1 screen behind the bar. Have about 8 of their rotating beers on tap with 3 seasonal and a few regionals such as Cigar City and Terrapin. Huge menu with pizzas, burgers, salads, steaks, seafood - you name it. Service was superb, professional and friendly. I like a place where the waiters and waitresses wear somewhat of a uniform - yeah, I’m old fashioned, Like all other BJ’s I have been to - pretty solid - you know what you are going to get.“

“The Tap Room is definetly awesome and worth stopping by. A tasting room that opens out onto a patio facing a pond and the woods that gives a serene backdrop to enjoying your beer and the scenery. Can be very loud inside on a busy night but quite if you step outside to enjoy. The selection is on the small side featuring their beer and some other locals but worth going because a lot of what they have is not available in stores like maple bacon ipa. They also offer growlers in quart and half gallon size of your can bring in your own. Actually very reasonable prices on everything 4 dollars for most pints or fill a quart growler for 6 or half gallon for 11. There is no food but several nights a week they have a food truck outside so you can get something there. Awesome local gainesville brewery and worth supporting so they can keep growing.“

“Stopped in April 2015. Clean, cookie cutter place, reminds of other Brass Taps. Our server was nice enough, vaguely knew about the beers, but not much. Mostly common beers on tap, only a couple unique and not as much local as I would have expected. Average to high prices... think World of Beer. “Visited late April, 2015. This is based on my first and only visit thus far. The location is sort of remote/not near everything else we were doing, but we deemed it a worthy trip after we went!

Big warehouse space when you pull up, not a great parking lot. Big open warehouse is what you see first, games and such in there. It was hot, so we went inside. Nicely lit, sort of wood-themed place, very nice - clean.

Our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Gave us a free sample of one of the beers so we could get an even number on the flights.

They had 9 of their beers on tap and a few guest taps. Pretty solid for a new-ish brewery. The beer was pretty good as well!

The flights were very expensive in my opinion. 4 small pours for $12 bucks. That is pretty expensive in my experience. I was pretty disappointed to come out of it with 2 flights and a $25 tab plus tip.

Overall, the beer is good, the staff was friendly, and it was a clean, nice place. I will certainly be back if I’m in the area!“

“Visited 03/11/15. Massive industrial space with a fairly large tap room located on the outskirts of Gainesville. Very easy access from I-75. Bright, airy space with a prominent long bar and an area for merchandise. I counted 12 house beers on tap in addition to one or two guests. Flights were available, but only for the year round stuff, which was sort of annoying. However, staff didn’t seem too bothered to give small tastes on request. I came with a less than positive impression of the brewery and left with some respect for the things they’re doing. The year round stuff was unexciting but well executed. The more experimental stuff was decent, too. Overall, worth checking out.“

“Massive spot out of the way in Gainesville. I can’t believe how big the property is. Went in on a Thursday night and there was a Vet School get together so it was packed and hoppin’ pretty good. Good tap list with some fun guest taps from Funky Buddha and others from Florida. Nice outdoor beer garden area with plenty of seating and plenty of space to wander, and even a fire pit. Food truck out front serving up stone fired pizza. Nice service. Only complaint was the line for the bathroom. Maybe it’s not always thtis busy, but being a place of this size, they’re going to have to stick in a couple more toilets. Overall definitely worth checking out as they expand their selection. They do a couple styles really well (the Tub ESB is recommend, especially for fans of the style).“

“Stopped in to see if there were any untouched shelf surprises here like BCS or something. Surprised to see a huge wall of craft mirroring another big shelf of bombers and Belgian/German brews. Looked carefully through the nice selection and spotted about 5 Old Stock Cellar Reaerve Brandy bottles. Grabbed one and am having it now. Unexpected and probably worth a stop if you missed out on a release at the shops that get immediately cleaned out. Overall plenty of standard craft stuff like CCB, DirtWolf, Hop Ranch, etc. didn’t really check out the rest of the store but seems like a Whole Foods kind of place for the super hipster. Service was fantastic, knew about their beers and the guest ones, and Andy was nice enough to give me a tour once I told him where I work. Have about five of their standards on tap with a few rotating specials and handful of regional guest taps. Place had a nice friendly vibe to it - both the clientele and the staff.
