58 /100 Oxton Bar & Kitchen (Bar) 2 CLAUGHTON FIRS Corner pub with lovely patio gardens in the centre of the village area of Oxton on the Wirral. It has a somewhat chain-pub styling on the inside, but is comfortable and friendly enough with food served here. The 'L' shaped bar in the open plan ground floor area does however have several hand pumps that carry beers from local microbrewers. |
60 /100 Courtyard (Bar) 7-9 ROSEMOUNT In the centre of the pleasant village area of Oxton, this pub in design places a high emphasis on food, and it's certainly a relaxing place to eat or drink albeit in a chain-bar way. The courtyard area is a fenced section at its side near the main road junction in this conurbation. There a short row of cask ales on the 'L' shaped bar against the back wall including local regular brews from 'Liverpool Craft', backed up by some macro keg ales, but nothing of too much interest in reality. |
78 /100 Homebrew Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 56 CHRISTCHURCH ROAD Bottle shop with a more than eclectic mix of drinks from both sides of the North Atlantic that at the time of writing arguably offers up the best selection you'll find in North Wirral. The urban village area of Oxton is pretty and has a number of pubs that all carry cask ale but don't really do justice to the craft beer scene, so this place has a monopoly, especially as it has its own bar attached to it. I was there around lunchtime though so this part was not open for me. I'm sure I missed out in that respect. |
52 /100 Queens Arms (Bar) 1 STORETON ROAD, Facing into a bend in the main road it sits on, this pub in its own building is in a leafy area of The Wirral within walking distance of the Oxton village area. The pub seems to be concentrating on food rather than drinks though, and whilst you'll find a couple of real ales on offer (probably Doom Bar), the drinks are only ever going to compliment a meal rather than offer up something new and interesting for a beer connoisseur. The food is also quite general pub fare, and nothing to come here especially for. The car park is across the road. Inside it's attractive enough but does have a chain pub feel. |
60 /100 38 CLAUGHTON FIRS Facing and occupying the space between a fork in the road, this is a pub in attractive grounds with a garden area out front. The central doorway leads into an open plan area with the bar against the back wall. Traditional in style, its ales mainly come from the Greene King family and with a couple of their seasonal and craft arms options available, but local guests feature here too. |
70 /100 Homebrew Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 56 CHRISTCHURCH ROAD Newish bottle shop to rival Ship In A Bottle as the go to bottle shop on the Wirral. The expected good representation of German, Belgian and top UK brewers. The avid ticker will focus on the local stuff however and Merseyside and Cheshire breweries are well represented. Even discovered a brewery not yet on our website. |
78 /100 Queens Arms (Bar) 1 STORETON ROAD, Great friendly Service |
