56 /100 Bridge Inn (Bar) LOW WATH RD A short drive north of Pateley Bridge’s centre, or a considerable walk up the left bank of the river Nidd is the Bridge Inn. The pub sits almost alone with a huge gravel car park in front of its extensive front patio area with wooden tables aplenty. The building is quite large too so it’s a bit of a surprise once inside how small and cramped things get. There’s only two rooms to sit in with the main service area room through the main door and dining area through the doorless hole in the wall on the left. The decor is traditional but simple with a fireplace in the wall in front of the small bar area that has four hand pumps and will include a couple of guest ales, which is probably the best reason to come here. The food is fairly ordinary tasting and could be described as pub classics. |
58 /100 Crown Hotel (Bar) 19 HIGH ST The most prominent public house on the narrow sloping High Street through the small and attractive town of Pateley Bridge is both an historic inn, and a hotel as the name indicates. It does well from its position from the regular visitors to this attractive part of the countryside to the East of the Yorkshire Dales, however you’ll spot locals in here too if you spend time here. This is something you’ll probably do if you end up in the town as there’s not too many places to drink at, and whilst the ale selection is not extensive, you’ll find Yorkshire brewed cask on three hand pumps. Unusually for a well-decorated and appealing traditional looking pub, they have single bottles of Carlsberg Special Brew in the fridge. It’s all open plan with two defined sides. The flagstoned bar side is through the door on the left with the carpeted lounge side where the main dining takes place is through the door on the right. If you’re with dogs then stay on the flagstones. The service area has three sides spanning both area. The pubs entrance is right up against the road so there’s no room to even stand here, but down the small alleyway to its side are a few picnic tables that offer an outdoor space if the weather is good enough. |
