“Called into this popular micropub with a good collection of beers while on a coach tour of pubs in Northamptonshire. Beers available were from Tring, Brains, St Austell, Milton and Castle Rock breweries. Selection of ciders and we enjoyed an interesting bottle of beer from Elgoods QE Apple and Vanilla.“

“This is almost a nano-pub. You’d struggle to fit 12 people in here I’d imagine. It’s certainly worth a stop though: four ales fed by gravity are available alongside 4 ciders. On my visit there were beers from the local area as well as Notts and Cheshire, and all were new beers to me. They stick to light and dark sessionable brews but the selection, though small, seems well-chosen. Conversation is the order of the day; I felt it would be rude to even ask if they have WiFi.“

“The same team who brought us the Little Ale House (q.v.) also run this brilliant low-key establishment at the rail station. It’s a nice atmosphere with more room than its town centre sister pub. By the time I arrived on late Saturday night, the four beers were down to one, but normally all four should be available, along with four ciders. The beers focus on Northants breweries but they’ve recently offered a beer from John O’Groats. Like most places in town, sessionable brews are favoured. Don’t get caught out by the opening hours.“

“Beer-led pub on the main drag in Wellingborough. It is of course the sister pub of the Northampton pub, which I liked. I have to admit that I didn’t warm to this place. While plenty of beers were available, they seemed to be from less-than-exciting local breweries, and was missing the cider selection boasted by the original Olde England (as well as the local Coach & Horses). The atmosphere is a bit staid. And most importantly the beer I had was off, not undrinkable but notably past its best. A mortal sin in 2016. The pub is just ’ok’ and can be included in any local pub crawl due to location... but I couldn’t get excited by it.“

“The Coach & Horses is a very ’pubby’ pub, filled with happy and convivial punters on a Saturday evening. You may be forgiven to take a minute before you see the 12 or so real ales on the bar. Mostly sessionable and Northants-based, although they were offering Jaipur on cask and keg when I was in (as well as Oakham’s Attila for a stronger option). You also may be forgiven for not noticing the 13 cider so tap behind the bar: Rich’s, Lilley’s, Broadoak, Gwynt y Draig. I opted for a half of mild which was in perfect condition. Nice to see such a beer hotspot in Wellingborough, even if choice is on the conservative side. Don’t get caught out by the Sunday and Monday early closings.“
