“Excellent beer pub. I don't detect any alliance with Blue Monkey (none of their beers were available). The atomsphere is a bit on the spit and sawdust side, although it's very friendly and I'm enjoying the conviviality. Not as much as the beer though: about 7 casks complemented by 6 craft keg (Bad Seed, Turning Point, Black Iris and Brass Castle). If you do come, try for a Thursday (2 for 1 pizza in the evening) or even better Tuesday (Black Iris night, where they dedicate 4 beers to their favourite brewery).“

“What Marduk said. Quite bright ambience, cannon is the killer feature, rather unique. Prices out of this world (or at least, out of this century). Pleasant service. (Aside: there was a very interesting looking liquor store on the other side of the road, I reckon that it would have had plenty of Ekstra Stronk Eastern European Lagers, but alas we didn't have time to investigate.) Grant County Tour #6: Nottinghamshire, 3 thirds of real ale, 18:58-19:11.“

“Big JDW. 2 floors. Cannon in the middle of the main lounge. 3 thirds cost.... drums..... dramatic drums.... 1.29. Fck me!!!? Ok it was discount night and all that, but still. In humble country of Estonia, for that price you can't even get beaten up. Will visit again!“

“A big Wetherspoons spacious with a cannon in the centre aisle alongside other nods to Stapleford’s most famous son. I suspect the ambience is very different on a weekend night when the men of Brexit Britain meet for a session. But Monday lunchtime it’s Mums and grandads in chattering harmony. Beer wise Nottingham brewery has badged one for the pub.And there’s 4 guests at a time. Food is JDW fare, cheap and cheerful. So you can’t really complain and the service is friendly and prompt. I would rather be here than in some city centre chain store. They are passing the newborn in the next booth which underlines the communal feel to the place. Pubs are social despite the anti social things they are renowned for.“

“In the non-descript Nottingham suburban town of Stapleford and not too far away from the M1, this is brand new building that looks fresh, complete with patio areas for good weather wine and dining. Inside it’s light and airy, more so in the large square bar area room at the rear with a few nautical nods in the decor to Admiral the pub is named after. The front room areas before the staircase feel cosier.“
