52 /100 Chequers (Bar) CHURCH ROAD Surprisingly large 18 century village pub due to many extensions. More restaurant than pub probably as dining seems to be the raison d’etre but drinkers can fit in, although I thought that the bar service became a little surly on our visit, possibly because it was very busy, the barman became quite rude when I asked who brewed a particular beer, hey ho!. There are several hand pumps, not with much unusual for the area, but well served, there is also a big bank of kegged beers, not really craft keg though. This is the North Oxon pub of the year for 2014, so is certainly worth a mention. |
