| PorterPounder (181), Tallahassee, Florida | | August 3, 2006 [ Updated March 30, 2007 ] Rerate Mar ’07 Excellent decor; parking a pain (not their fault); great samplers, decent beer; great food Original Jul ’06 Visited here in mid-July 2006 - nice brewpub atmosphere. They were in the process of moving so were not pouring their own. Kudos to them though for finding some good taps to replace their own. Had a few from Orlando Brewing, Bigfoot and SNPA, a few imports. Service was fast and friendly and the food was rib sticking good. Will have to check them out at their new digs next time I am in town. | | Ibrew2or3 (161), Safety Harbor, Florida | | July 24, 2006 After living in Tampa for more than a year I had given up on local craft brews. The few Dunedin beers I’d tried to that point were disappointing (I’ve found out later a couple others are very nice). So I finally ended up in the Ybor area and gave TBBC a try. What I found was shocking. They have a solid full body full hop IPA and a mind numbing, mouth numbing/hurting/scaring barelywine. In a beer-scape being crushed by the macro brew juggernaut this is a pure oasis. And the food. I’ve had my fair share of pub food and this place is top notch. They do a terrific job here. Great help, great food and great beer. And thanks to matta for hooking them up with an impressive line up of guest taps while their system is down during the relocation. My first tasting of Big Foot Barelywine on Tap. Perfection. | Lotus (8), Florida does not count - explanation | | June 4, 2006 Have been coming here for years. Love the Old elephant Foot IPA. Good beer+ good food = A very good night :) | redave (8), squaw valley, California does not count - explanation | | May 28, 2006 When i first visited Tampa, I think i came here at least 5 times in the 7 days i was here. It’s that good. They are in the middle of moving to a new location. First of all great beers. However, at the moment, none are their own brews, due to the move, but still fine "guest" veers available. Last time i was here, I enjoyed every beer i tried. But for me the best thing was my introduction to cask conditioned ales.
An authentic beer engine served a special cask conditioned batch of one of their regular beers. I had the great fortune to be present when they had their famous IPA cask conditioned!! I was shocked and awed by the "show" after a pour [the three layers of color and foam that you get from a nitrogen pushed ale]. I was in heaven!
I will miss the nice upper terrace that the old one has.
At the moment they have a great selection of guest beers, including dogfish head 60 minute IPA, a Mojo IPA and a nice Barley Wine i can’t remember the name of.
The food is good, and they have a great [incredibly hot] habanero sauce.
The service is the only thing that can bring down this great place. The bar staff seems very good, but a couple of the servers a little less than great. | | allfreej (62), Louisville, Kentucky | | May 4, 2006 [ Updated March 30, 2007 ] Tampa Bay Brewing is a must-stop location for beer drinkers when in Tampa. On my most recent visit, I discovered that they were relocating to Central Ybor, a far better location to spread the gospel of real beer, great food, and excellent service. The staff at the Brewing Company is absolutely top-notch, and the establishment shows it. Though they had none of their house brews on tap due to the move, the brewmaster ensured they had an excellent selection of micros and Belgians on tap to make up for the loss. I had visited the brewery when in town in the past, and the beer is definitely worth the trip. The food is excellent and plentiful, the combination of great beer with great, reasonably-priced food too rare in today’s age. The move to Central Ybor will undoubtedly boost their clientele, but I’m sure that Vicky and the rest of the crew can keep up with the demand! A must stop for any beer lover going to Tampa, and I look forward to my next visit! | | BrockLanders (30), Panama City, Florida | | March 21, 2006 We love this joint....great pub food (plus!), and great brews---especially his seasonal specials. Can’t go wrong here...a must visit when in Ybor and Tampa. | | kseecs16 (146), Naperville, Illinois | | February 20, 2006 A stones throw from the main Ybor nightlife, this is a pretty cool little place. Cozy decor with the brewing equipment right behind the bar. Nice selection of 7-10 home brews, and 7-8 other drafts, none BMC. Burgers were good with some interesting choices, and the menu looked decent, if a little uninteresting and over priced. My only beef would be that the place was not as clean as I would like, but it is Ybor city which explains both the high price for the food and the dirt. Still a very good place, and I will return for the tasty tasty Porter. | | mnurda (22), Winnipeg, Manitoba | | February 14, 2006 I would not decribe this as upscale, but it is a cozy place, the serves good food, and has a great selection of beer. | | Aurelius (89), Tallahassee, Florida | | January 8, 2006 The sampler was huge - 8/9 beers. I went there with my wife a couple of years back on a 2nd honeymoon. I was expecting her to just indulge me on one of my brewpub excursions, but the food and atmosphere turned out to be very good. Walking distance from the Ybor City strip - makes for a nice bar-hopping evening. Good beer, but I probably overrated them, being sufficiently lubed by the time that I got to the end of the sampler. | | Tmoney99 (257), Cincinnati, Ohio | | December 2, 2005 Stopped here for lunch and got parking at a meter directly in front of brewpub. Service was quick and freindly. Ordered the sampler of nine brews. David the brewer noticed my rating and we discussed brews and he opened a cask IPA for me. Selection was very good and they had a brew for each major style. After I had tasted sampler, I reviewed the complete menu and ordered calamari. Hard dish to cook properly, but this was done perfectly and was a very nice portion. I agree that this is an essential stop. |
