eyesandsmiles (8), Mission Viejo, California does not count - explanation | | July 6, 2007 The selection is good but slightly pricy compared to other beer bars in paris. the service is prompt but impersonal. lots of tourists. not that good of a tap. didn’t eat here. | | bhensonb (291), Woodland, California | | June 27, 2007 Based on 3 visits. Fantastic food. Great bottled beers. The tourist crowd can be avoided, if the off times are frequented. Moules provencale. A must try. The staff seems a bit less stiff than most Parisan types. Smile a lot, try a bit of French, point at the menu, if that is not working. The facilities are a bit daunting, but it’s part of being there. | | sunevdj (35), Copenhagen OE, Denmark | | January 7, 2007 Loud touristic place. But with a decent (for Paris) selection of beers. Mainly Belgians. 1½ year ago they had a few more french (e.g. Cervoise Lancelot) but not anymore. Loud techno(ish) music. The food looked very basic (e.g. steak and mussles with fries) don´t know about the price, though. The service was quick and polite but maybe not too knowledgable... He told me they didn´t have Rochefort 8 or 12 but they did have Ambrée and Brune (the same)... Not the worst thing that can happen, I suppose. OK place, that I´ll go back to when I´m in the mood for beer in Paris. | | TBone (123), Pori, Finland | | July 30, 2005 Clean, touristic place in the nice street. Decent selection of Belgium beers but not many French. | | Crosling (70), Loveland, Colorado | | October 7, 2004 Au Trappistes is located on one of my personal favorite streets in Paris: Rue St. Denis. This street has dozens of sex shops, great food (especially the ethnic food) and nice shopping. It also has another great beer bar on the street: Hall’s Beer Tavern.
Anyway, I didn’t really like this place.
The selection was fairly well received, about 150, but there was only one that I really wanted at the time, that being Hercule Stout. Loads of beers on draft though. Appropriate glassware.
Cramped as hell. Uncomfortable. Loud and annoying atmosphere. The staff was busy and somewhat unfriendly. This place isn’t really a beer bar. It’s more of a family (children friendly) restaurant that just happens to serve a few beers.
The McDonalds of beer bars. |
