| puzzl (70), New York, New York | | March 9, 2009 A great stop. Very authentic Belgian feeling. A small but solid list of beer all around, with pretty nice prices. This bar is a big time relief in the middle of the club distict; low key, quiet music, not too crowded. Will definitely return here on my next trip to the city. | | MrChopin (19), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | February 16, 2009 Stopped in after a 5 hr drive around 1AM, staff happy to take care of me, quite well in fact. Nice feel, rather small and intimate, though I didn’t go upstairs. Taps are very straightforward, so I headed straight for the bottle list. They have a lot of sour and funky stuff, relatively disproportionate in fact, so I was pleased knocking back an 1809 BW and Gavroche BdG right before closing time. Would frequent this place if I was in Philly more often. | BT (4), Newtown, Connecticut does not count - explanation | | February 8, 2009 I went to Monks first (which was necessary), but was then introduced to Eulogy...wow! This place has great food, a better selection, I just wish it was in Center City, closer to Tenth Pres! (Simeon Trust, 2009, Marion C, Sarah C. and Skip) | | Fin (97), Merton, England | | January 16, 2009 Visited here three to four times back in November 2008. I really enjoyed this place, the selection was very decent, barman knowledgeable and good fun and also it had some decent music playing all on each occasion we were there. Unlike the previous rater we sat at a table on two occasions and never had food. Had some great beers here for the first time including Bells Hoplslam. | | LilBeerDoctor (29), East Setauket, New York | | January 11, 2009 I stopped here with fredandboboflo on a late Friday night. I don’t understand why this is considered the #1 or #2 beerbar in Philadelphia. It was completely crowded when we were there and we weren’t allowed to sit at a table because we weren’t ordering food. The taps were pretty ordinary to be honest (Lindemann’s Framboise, Corsendonk Christmas, Leffe Blond, Delerium Noel, etc to name a few...certainly nothing remotely special). The bottle list was long and somewhat impressive but again, didn’t really contain anything that I couldn’t buy myself for less $$ (well I’ve never seen Cantillon St. Lamnivus at a store before, but I wasn’t going to pay $50 for it at the bar anyway). Overall: This bar is small, crowded, and didn’t have anything that interested me (as a destination). A disappointment.
| pineybob (9), MYSTIC ISLANDS, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | November 28, 2008 What’s NOT to like. Great Beer, Great food and ambiance.
this is a place not to miss plus unlike Monks you can actually get a seat | joeyplush (5), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | October 20, 2008 Had dinner with a large party (10) this past Saturday. Service was very good, and although the place was small and very busy, they took care of us quickly and we didn’t have to wait very long for drinks or food. As others have mentioned, one advantage to Eulogy over Monk’s is that they actually take reservations - that will save you a several hour wait on a weekend night. Beer selection was very good overall - slightly less selection than Monk’s but definitely one of the top choices in the greater Philadelphia area. | | jmm635 (33), Havertown, Pennsylvania | | October 9, 2008 Love this place! The beer list speaks for itself. Huge selection, proper glassware, and a staff that knows what they are talking about. I ate here one night and it was really amazing. The mussels and fries with dipping sauces are tremendous, but my wife also had the best fish and chips I’ve ever tried. I’d rather go here than wait all night at Monk’s. The beer menu is pretty similar. Check out the coffin table upstairs! | | bp (47), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | October 4, 2008 Been here a number of times. Nice little place that gets a bit packed during the dinner hours and then clears out a bit. Very nice bottle selection and some solid drafts are always available. Food is OK. I’ve only had the mussels and they didn’t wow me - they don’t even come with fries, you have to order that separate. Look up toward the ceiling on the left-hand side of the downstairs bar and notice the Westy crate. | GuilTTy (8), Cherry Hill, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | September 20, 2008 Small, dark and often crowded but for very good reason. Superb selection of bottled beers from all over the world - not just Belgium. Rare brews from Finland and a very respectable selection of domestic craft brews. Simply an excellent place to enjoy great beer and meet others who appreciate true quality. |
