63 reviews for Eulogy Belgian Tavern
| kseecs16 (146), Naperville, Illinois | | April 10, 2007 Super packed, no room to sit downstairs, and no real standing room downstairs so I headed upstairs where a few seats at the bar were available. Trendy type of crowd, bartender was definitely enthusiastic about beer and fairly knowledgable. Fairly pricy, good selection, particularly of the Belgians. Did not eat, but the food I saw looked good, and definitely smelled good. I’d return. | garretthallst (2), does not count - explanation | | March 10, 2007 Over 300 beers and everything I asked for was in stock and perfect. Most knowlegble bartenders I ever met in all my beer travels. Food was fantastic, we started at Eulogy, went to another Belgian joint and returned to Eulogy which is by far the best in Philadelphia | | Zeswaft (102), Seattle, Washington | | February 17, 2007 really cramped but a pretty sweet environment. There’s a table on the second floor that that has a glass top with a skeleton under it. Beer prices are exorbitant. Selection is good, but nothing that you cant find at, say, the Foodery. At least for me, all of these beers can be found in Chicago for at least 50% of the price. The only beers that weren’t a rip were...i guess only arrogant bastard on tap for $4.99. Service was respectable, but i didn’t test their knowledge. | | boelker62 (12), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania | | January 23, 2007 Disenchanted, unaffected snobish hipster servers, greqt beers selection ( I did not run into te same problem as ejcat, but can see how this would happen. There’s only so much room in an Old City Philadelphia place like this, so the 1000 beers they advertise is a stretch. With this said, the selction of beers from around the world (as long as they are in stock) is what will bring me nback here. I hope there is a better connect between the ownership/advertising and the service staff. | ejcat (4), does not count - explanation | | January 9, 2007 I have been here numerous times and the running joke is that they never have the beers i ask for off the list. i go through about 5 selections before they get something i ask for. i don’t eat here either because the first time i did the mussels weren’t cooked and it was a big mess. they are always touting how great they are but i have yet to be impressed. | | illinismitty (224), Nashville, Tennessee | | November 4, 2006 [ Updated February 12, 2007 ] I met up with Phillymonksbeer and Whaleman for a few beers. Very nice selection of Belgians and Domestic Micros. The beer list is not always current, so be sure to have a second choice in the queue. The place is very nice, somewhat upscale and trendy. There are two levels, each with different beers on Tap. Rather small, but not as tight as Monk’s Cafe. I stayed downstairs and drank at the bar. The bartender was very nice, and the beers were served in the proper glass. I did not try the food, but it looked and smelled great. Another plus is that they have one of beer coolers outside the bar, so you can browse for beers, as oppposed to poking your head over the bar. As others said, everything listed is not always available, but I expect that in beer bars with this type of selection. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. I prefer this place over Monk’s Cafe for two reasons. One, it’s not as packed. Two, better service at the bar. Monk’s has the edge for rarities. | | muzzlehatch (255), Burlington, Vermont | | April 26, 2006 Visited April 15 2006, a hopping Saturday night. No room on the 2nd floor, and thus no Prima Pils on tap for me, sigh....but that was of little consequence, as the service, atmosphere and selection were all top-notch. Half a dozen beers I hadn’t had (rare for me), very cool and knowldedgeable bartenders, and surprisingly relaxed given the business level. I’m not going to rate the food as I only had fries, but they were among the best I’ve had. Top recommendation, wish I’d visited Monks on this trip for a direct comparison but I suspect this would hold its own. | | f351c4v (77), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania | | March 18, 2006 Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, no crowd to speak of. Sampled a few choice Belgians from the list, including t Smisje BBBourgondier, things you can’t locate in Western PA. Service was excellent, barstaff was attentive and made excellent recommendations. Overall, a great experience, recommended over Monks. | | JasonG (33), Salt Lake City, Utah | | February 9, 2006 As luck would have it, my hotel was only about a block away from Eulogy. Small place, long and narrow, two floors. First is mostly the bar and a few tables, second is mostly tables. Draft list was very nice, mostly belgains. Bottle list was also very nice, including some interesting vintage stuff. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get in to Monk’s to compare, but Eulogy is definitely a place to visit. | | austinpowers (152), New York, New York | | January 29, 2006 I gotta take Eulogy down a peg for listing beers on their menu they don’t actually have. Otherwise, it was a classy, authentic Belgian experience located close to the Liberty Bell (relatively speaking) and seemed to be owned by a Belgian guy. Very nice place. |
