63 reviews for Eulogy Belgian Tavern
| NYHarvey (124), New York, New York | | January 15, 2006 My first beer the bartender said she didn’t have it. Ok. Second beer is mislabeled style wise...claimed it was a stout, but when poured it was a pale ale.
Third try I ask for Hair of the Dog Adam...get Hair of the Dog Fred instead...in the meantime I see the first beer I ordered sitting in the cooler all along.
Not a good start. Still a decent beer bar with a "large" selection, but no where near as sophisticated and vintage a selection as Monk’s.
It’s a great beer bar. It’s just not as good as Monk’s Cafe.
| | beervana (32), Libertyville, Illinois | | December 8, 2005 Very nice place with an extensive beer listing and excellent mussels. Service was attentive and tap selection of Belgium and American beers was awesome. The only downside was that they were out of the first four menu listed bottle beers that I wanted. Good thing that I had a long list handy. Nice ambiance, as good as Monk’s. However, Eulogy’s mussels are larger and more flavorful - better than Monks. I would definitely go back again and will bring some friends along for the experience. | | xproudfoot (37), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania | | December 3, 2005 Very nice ambiance, huge beer menu. More of a bar than monks, but their mussels looked good and during football season they had a great special with unlimited beers, a burger, mussels, and fries for a ridiculously low amount of money. I trusted their advice in the menu and got a downright excellent beer for my trust. Will be back. | | Cornboy (13), Eastampton, New Jersey | | October 9, 2005 [ Updated January 21, 2006 ] Superb selection, especially in bottle. The draft taps dont change as often as I like, but I think they have many that are permanent.
Huge beer list, even had some of the elusive Duchesse in bottle. Service was very good, food quite tasty with an obvious Belgian theme.
A must try in Philly. | | chronictonic (27), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania | | August 25, 2005 I’ve been here a few times just for beers, but last weekend was the first time we had dinner here - so now it’s time for a full review. The beer selection is top notch - especially if you’re looking for Belgians. One of my favorites - Arrogant Bastard - always seems to be on tap here also if you’ve got a hop craving. Everytime we’ve been here we’ve been able to eventually get a seat at the downstairs bar (unlike the "other" Belgian beer bar in town). Bottle selection is huge and you’re given a well organized 4 page beer menu to select from. Upstairs, we sat in the coffin room with a large group - very cool ambience. Food was all excellent - from the appetizers, to the marinated grilled chicken sandwich, to the entrees. Reasonably priced as well. Our upstairs waiter was knowledgeable of the beers - which was a nice change from some beer bars (he even recommended that we let our Stone Smoked Porter warm up a bit before drinking). Overall in Philly, this is one of the best beer bars around - highly recommended. | DrGonzo (4), Somerville, Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | August 15, 2005 A small bar with great atmosphere. Perhaps the most extensive and quality beer list I’ve seen, better than Monk’s, with similarly above average prices. Primarily bottled beers, lots of Belgians but plenty of American micros. Did not try the food. Probably worth it for the vibe alone, but the incredible beer list makes this the place to go. | biz82 (6), austin, Texas does not count - explanation | | July 2, 2005 Stumbled across this place on the way to South St. Nice neightborhood pub vibe, a little worn around the edges. Decent Belgian fries, though somewhat greasy. Great bottle selection with stuff I’d never heard of. Could spend a few nights in this place. | | Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | June 12, 2005 A small bar in a vistable part of the waterfront. Mostly bottles, there was something in the order of 180 of them. Quite busy for a Monday night owing to the great weather. WIll get hot here in the summer. Selection is Basically what you can get at The Foodery, but in bar setting. Nothing I haven’t had and wanted to try. A few quality taps of Belgians,I think there was 8 taps on, with the British standards, but also different taps than what’s on at Monk’s. | ninersball (1), does not count - explanation | | December 24, 2004 This is the greatest beer bar in America. It’s got 200 beers and they are all the best beers. What most people don’t understand is how they have every Style beer possible and they are all the highest ranked in each style. The beer is great and the food is perfect to accompany the beer. The mussels are the best meal deal in Philadelphia and the fries and their dip are the most addictive food I ever had, I can’t stop returning. The staff smiles and jokes all the time, what a refreshing relief from most other restaurants who treat you like a bother. This is the best in Philadelphia. | tommorrice (1), does not count - explanation | | November 15, 2004 Friends convinced us to try Eulogy since it was really owned by Belgians. We had a fantastic experience. Eulogy is in the best part of town near Independence Hall. The beer list is more extensive than Monks, better priced, better explained without Monks out of stocks. The service was out of this world, very cute, friendly and handled our order quickly making us smile and laugh. The big surprise was how good the food was since this is called a tavern. The fries are the best in the city, the meaty and juiciest mussels I’ve ever seen and then for our main course Crab Cakes beat Le Bec Fin and a Steak that was superb. Everything was great. Eulogy is the best tavern in the city and might be one of the best restaurants. We ate there three times now and felt compelled to write.
