| mullet (144), Melbourne, Australia | | December 30, 2009 Had a bad experience here. I tried to return a bottle that had leaked and was flat (and terrible). I didn’t have time to get in touch with the brewery so went back here. Basically the guy didn’t believe me and I thought I was faking it in order to get one €8 bottle of beer. Right. Quite a good selection, though at the expected tourist prices. As far as I’m concerned this is another tourist shop, not a serious beer shop. | | eManu (23), Brussels, Belgium | | November 25, 2009 Always nice to visit, they have some special beers, some quite rare beers like the different Pannepot I was looking for.
But other than that they have the usual classics at high tourist prices. Just need to look around for that rare brew. | | gyllenbock (28), Stockholm, Sweden | | October 28, 2009 A nice beer shop in central Brussels. About 500 different kinds of Belgian beers, sorted by style.
Prices were quite ok, most of the small bottles cost 2.50 EUR. The hours were very liberal, 11-21 on weekends.
The man who sat at the counter was not that good at English but on the other hand it was easy to find what you wanted.
They had a promo, buy 100 EUR of beer, and get a bottle of Westvleteren 8 for free. (I visited in October 2009)
| | JorisPPattyn (21), Antwerpen, Belgium | | August 21, 2009 Certainly worth a try, if you’re in the neighbourhood. SItuated just around the corner of Delirium Café, Biertempel, etc., it’s not as if you have to travel far. But its situation also partly explains why the prices are hefty. The choice is vast, but it is very varied - supermarkt commissioned beers (a lot more expensive than in that supermarkt, of course), next to near-unfindable one-offs, even from faraway microbrewers. Minute section of non-Belgians, certainly not worth the trip. My main point of dissention, however, is the people manning the counter - I wonder if he knows anything more than where he bought it, and how many bottles that were. Enfin, if you’re there, hop in. Sometimes he’s got that rare gem. | | sebletitje (78), Tampa, Florida | | June 29, 2009 Insane amount of beers to chose from. All Belgians, estimate is well over 500. Most 33cl and 25cl are priced at 2€50, which is fair considering how hard to get the beers are. Everything is arranged by beer style and clean. Can’t say the kid working there looked that interested in beers or even remotely tried to help.
Had many Cantillon, Struise; Black Albert for 6€, Fantôme, many hard to find limited release from small villages around Belgium.
Only thing that would make the place better, is not have a stooge working there who doesn’t care about what he does. | | Dedollewaitor (75), Odense, Denmark | | January 29, 2009 The place in Brussels with the largest selection without a doubt. Same prices as Biertempel. Found some Alvinne here that they didnt have at Biertempel. The two foreign owners were ok helpful though one of them hardly spoke English. When I went and grabbed the Duvel Tripel Hop they both laughed. I asked for the price and it was 55Euro?!? I said: You’re joking, right?". In the end they offered me to buy it for 35Euro, which was still unreasonably expensive. I were there a few times during my 4 day visit in Brussels, and one of the owners were quite annoying and not very friendly. Seemed rather irritated about having customers | Straling (7), Heerlen, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | November 26, 2008 Took me some trouble to find this, but when I did I was not disappointed.
Great selection and beers are laid out very clearly.
Bit expensive though compared to the Bier Tempel.
Also guy wasn’t very helpful, strangly enough as I spoke Dutch.
| ashot (1), Ontario does not count - explanation | | September 5, 2008 I was lately in Brussels, begium...found this place, Beer Planet, amazing place, unbelivable variety, unique desing. They have made beer planet sign with cut bottle and managed to place light balls inside! Incredible. And you should see the huge bottle on the facade of the building. I could not keep myself from taking pictures...the owner, very nice man, was joking that this happens all the time in his store...check this place if you are in Brussels and enjoy beer...
Ed | | DSG (41), Tel Aviv, Israel | | August 19, 2008 I was actually here at the time the place was just opening, the guy there was in the process of opening cases of beers and organizing them on the shelves. He was very nice when I asked him a bunch of questions even though he had quite a hard time speaking english. Selection looked very good including Westvleteren and a good range of Cantillon. Prices seemed very reasonable, especially for central Brussels. | pushkinwow (5), Ontario does not count - explanation | | July 7, 2008 Perhaps I ended up a little biased by the service but I found that they were pushy (even asked up to rate their site on ratebeer), bragged about the number of beers they had (even though there was nothing that special) and ended up not that impressed. However they did try to be helpful and were very friendly. Perhaps it has something to do with this being a new place - maybe it will slowly develop a soul and like a good beer mellow with time.
Overall not a place that you have to visit (other better bottle shops) but if you are in the neighbourhood then worth dropping in).
