UPDATED: JUN 13, 2021 12 ounce can from Festival Lacrosse. 6/12/21. Black, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast and citrus. Taste is roast, grapefruit, resin. Well balanced. Solid beer.

Foxbush (3502) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 22, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 22, 2021 12 oz can from Corks and kegs in Richmond, VA The ale poured an opaque black color with a rich foamy tan head and lacing. The Amarillo hops invoke orange citrus on the nose. Hints of grapefruit and roasted malts as well. The flavor has more roasted malts with hop bitterness of grapefruit and pine resin. The ale has a medium body and soft carbonation. The finish is smooth with lingering pine resin in the upper mouth.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2021 Can from tfontana, thanks again Dark brown bordering on black with a good sized tan head that shows moderate retention. Caramel and hints of chocolate and roast with more pine than citrus. Solid old school hop and caramel bite.

brigg (1453) - New York, USA - JAN 7, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2021 (Can from the 12 Beers of Christmas Pack - Day 11) Dark brown, almost black body with a large medium-brown head that slowly recedes into a stiff, uneven surface. Aroma of dark malt but hoppy with pine and grass. Medium body; light carbonation; soft and creamy mouthfeel; a little chewy. Flavor is mildly sweet, some fruit; pine and citrus hops.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2020 Can from the 12 Beers of Christmas Pack - Day 11. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a small tan head. Aroma had decent roast. No burnt hop flavor that I often get from many black IPAs. Roasted malts, chocolate. Floral hop finish. Nice.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2020 Wow what a beautiful pour! Jet black with a massive and stable tan head. Nose is cascadey, fruity, stone fruit and floral. Big feel with a zesty carb bite. Well developed hop flavor with a fun roasty edge. Traces of cocoa powder with a lingering bitter finish. Excellent!

Mikitronz (34) - Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA - DEC 4, 2020
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2020 Less bitter than the stone black ipa and less syrupy, but overall very similar if more drinkable. Coffee notes, bitterness. Not my favorite but interesting.

ttoadee (4081) - Austin, Texas, USA - NOV 10, 2020
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2020 Black pour, healthy mocha head. Nose is piney. Middle is roasted chocolate malt, touch coco, bite of citrus, resiny pine holding the rear. Finish is a silky chocolate bar infused with pine needles. Good beer.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2020 Even the can acknowledges the nostalgia of the Black IPA style, and I'm glad they do. It's a good beer style, and a good beer. Opal black with a decent head, it has that familiar smell of pine tree, soil and hops. And the flavor is much the same, with a zippy carbonation and that Pacific Northwest flavor I've come to miss.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2020 Pint can, TWSP. I love Black IPAs - too bad they're so few and far between (at least in my area). Can is marked 'throwback series,' which is unfortunate; should be CURRENT series. Anyway, pours black with a soft tan head. Dark fruit, grapefruit, roasted malt nose. Flavor is grapefruit, pine, chocolate, roasted malt, toasted nuts... very flavorful. Delicious.
