COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

BBHansen (3047) - Køge, DENMARK - MAR 2, 2024
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2024 Bottle @ Home w friends/Maltkings. Appearance: pours slightly hazy brown with ok soapy tan head and lacing. Aroma/taste: barley, bread, light fruits, dried fruit, brown sugar, light alcohol and light spicy notes. Palette: strong yeasty aroma, sparkling carbonation, medium to full body, medium to notable sweetness, somewhat balanced by a medium bitterness, average duration, light dry finish and a watery texture. Overall: tasty powerful Belgian

BillWyce (1668) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 24, 2024
UPDATED: FEB 24, 2024 Pours opaque nut brown with a 3-finger bone-colored head. Nutty and sweet malt aromas with a hint of spice. Full-bodied with some syrupy thickness. Long finish with a light boozy astringency. Nutty-sweet malt flavor, maybe a bot of chocolate too. An earthy spice note at the back, along with a touch more bitterness from the chocolate.

ozzatoadisback (644) - ITALY - JAN 24, 2024
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2024 Pours a quite clear brown, looks almost black in the glass with an off-white/greyish head that's very big for such high abv and also shows very good persistence and some lacing. Average intensity in the aroma: strong fruitiness, even per style with dark/dried fruits in a dominant position but also some citric hints (chinotto aka citrus myrtifolia, doesn't seem to have an english translation). On the background: brown sugar, biscuity and slightly caramelly malts, licorice. Quite complex but maybe a bit too much fruity oriented. There's more balance and very nice flavour definition in the taste. Notes as per aroma, maybe with a hint of spiciness. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but there's a nice warming feel. A pretty sweet beer as obvious, but overall in very good balance, with chinotto notes bringing a bit of bitterness, nice attenuation and a relatively dry finish. Dense bodied, medium to high carbonation; feels very full/dense. Excellent strong dark ale.

tennisjoel (2230) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - JAN 2, 2024
UPDATED: JAN 5, 2024 750 mL bottle picked up in the cities. Brown/red body with a thick khaki colored head. The nose is a little fruitier than some in this style, getting some cherry or even cranberry scents. Other notes are of brown sugar, fresh bread, light cinnamon, vanilla. Caramel is dominant in the flavor. Not quite as subtle or nuanced compared to my favorite (St. Bernardus). Still quite enjoyable overall. Good find!

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2023 Petite Bière de Noël (11°) au nom imprononçable ! C'est le genre de Bière assez dingue, il y a pas une graine de café dans la fermentation et pourtant ça à un goût de petit noir. Arome top top!

GDTRFB (8950) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 12, 2023
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2023 Pours deep mahogany into snifter. Tan micro head with excellent retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Dark caramel, fig, and prune aromas. Sharp and full with sweet molasses, prune and fig upfront turning to earthy pumpernickel in the dry lasting finish.
