COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise his 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the first Father’s Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.

Dad’s Little Helper Black IPA is deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt.

Dark brown-going-to-black, huge beige head and lot of circular lacing. Roasted malts on the nose, with notes of citrus. Quite rich in flavour, roasty, coffee, cocoa, hoppy fruitiness less than expected in a IPA. Quite bitter, the burnt type of bitter. Medium body, creamy, average carbonation, bitter finish. Decent but not outstanding.

Gravity Cask Third of a Pint at GBBF 2014, Olympia, London Aug 2014 - Very Dark Brown in colour. Fruity; citrus fruity, grapefruit. Hoppy; grassy hops. Malty; roasty malts; almost burnt, caramel, some chocolate. Quite bitter hoppy citrus fruity and roast malty throughout. Drinkable, but it is a style I generally dislike. (2014-08-13)

Bottle. Pours almost black with white head. Aroma of toasted malts and citrusy hops. In taste lightly sweet, lightly roasty with hoppy touch. Medium body, moderate carbonation, bitter and slightly roasty finish. Really nice black IPA.

Bottle. Licorice, chocolate malt, pine, and grapefruit peel aroma. Very dark brown with large tan head. Moderately sweet light chocolate malt, light licorice, and moderately bitter dry grapefruit peel flavor. Body a bit light. Okay - would have liked it better if it were maltier.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2016 Color of Cola, beige head, sort of unstable. Aroma was very malty with IPA on the label, tobacco, nuts, caramel. The hoppy profile came in nicely as it rolled across the tongue...never neglecting the malty character, toasty malts, a bit breathy in the finish. Not bad.

Pours a dark mahogany brown with fluffy tan head. Aromas of dark malts, touch of hops, and some woody notes. Smooth malty taste to start, then hops, and a roasty finish.

Deep dark brown with a large rocky light khaki head. Roasty toast malt and black malt/licorice, and an earthy bitterness on the aroma. Bitter earthy flavor with a toast crust malt overtone, a kiss of orange rind bitterness, dark roast malt, a kiss of licorice, and a weird herbal hoppy finish.

Bottle from Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge, drunk at home. Mid to dark brown, translucent, with a suggestion of creamy beige head on top. Pine needles, root beer and liquorice in the delectable aroma. Sweetish taste with some hop bitterness in the finish. Chocolate and plums in the aftertaste. Thinnish body. In my opinion this is Rogue at the absolute top of their game.

Bottle. Nice dark color with thick tan head. I seem to have gotten another unfresh one- perfumy and overly sweet in a bad way. Flavor is askew too- sweet and perfumy then bitter. I was looking forward to drinking this after a 12 hour day and now I’m just annoyed. Maybe it’s cause I’m not a dad...

Bomber. Arcade Beers, Huddersfield. 6.1%. Hardly any of the ingredients listed above match the ones on this bottle. Hazy, dark brown. Thin, messy, lasting, beige head. Nose has ashy, earthy, blackberry hop. Hint of savoury smoke from somewhere. Taste is fruity, light bitter. Some lip stickage. Smooth body. Light and easy drinking. Long, earthy, fruity bitter finish. Decent.
