COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kiwis like to eat bread by the truckload, but we’re sometimes surprised to find that wheat can also make a mighty good beer. It gives it a sweeter, cloudier base, while the yeast produces a unique flavour of ripe bananas, vanilla and clove. So raise a glass to the Weiz Guys who invented this brew. It’s the best thing since sliced bread.

Kiwis also know their beer. Way back in 2000, when Carl’s purpose in life was to introduce true to style international beers to the locals, most of us were scratching our heads when we held up a glass of Bavarian Hefe, this cloudy concoction called a wheat beer. 16 years on, us worldly lot have weized up, caught up and arguably overtaken the rest of the world in our craft beer know how. So we have finally given our Tuatara Hefe an identity of it’s own. Because we think you’re weiz enough to figure the rest out.

Taste: Ripe banana, vanilla and clove. Balanced sweetness, with slight tart finish.
Aroma: Banana and clove
Look: Distinctively cloudy
Hops: Pacific Jade
Malt: NZ Lager, NZ Wheat, German Wheat

mountdad (944) - Mount Maunganui, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 10, 2021
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2021 500ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with an enthusiastic but short lived white head. Aroma is a vibrant wheat beer; depending on temperature you can get cloves, banana, bread, vanilla & that unique yeast. It is light bodied & easy to drink with a underlying sweetness that may put some off but all the wheat beer characteristics are here. As per the 15 IBU there is no real bitterness & I can't find the tart taste others mention. Maybe DB have tuned it out since buying Tuatara? An affordable & widely available way to try this style of beer. When the humidity is up at 90% it's a refreshing, if simple beer to enjoy. Good.

Werthergoethe (358) - Moscow, RUSSIA - JUL 5, 2020
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2020 Приятное, питкое пиво. Hefe нередко бывают жестковаты, но это пьётся очень легко. Бытылка покрыта ухором в виде кожи рептилии - оригинально.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2020 Aroma: Medium coriander, banana, Appearance: Hazy, straw gold body. Small, white head. Fine bubbles. Low retention. Flavour: Medium tart, coriander, banana peel. Light bitterness, Mouthfeel: Medium-light acidity. Medium-light body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Good combination of flavours, but the mix does not work. The beer has a 'sharpness' that should not be there. This should be a smooth, easy drinking beer. Malty/bready notes are missing. Yeast presence is good. 330 ml bottle, roused, poured,

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2019 Pretty decent effort at a wheat beer, along the lines of Hoegaarden. Much darker pour, 330ml bottle in a mix six. Warning: last few drops were thick, syrupy. Next time, give it a mild shake before pouring!

ChungYunJi (212) - Taoyuan City, TAIWAN - JUN 3, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 3, 2019 Light Golden, Clean, White BeerHead, with frothy, abundant and fine foam, Good Persistency, sparkling body. The beer has typical aroma of hefeweizen, such as banana, clove-like phenols, citrus, dough, and grains. This one has more clear performance of spices on the nose. Medium carbonation, light sweetness, light bitterness, light body. The taste reflects the aroma but is slightly sour. The aftertaste is clean, crispy but watery. The drinkability is good.

Piepenhenrich (3424) - Oberursel, GERMANY - MAY 27, 2019
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2019 On tap in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Golden, slightly hazy, with a thin white head that dilapidates quickly. Somewhat stuck inbetween a Weizen and a Witbier. Taste has a hint of fruit and bread. It takes a moment but then it becomes very drinkable.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2019 Pours almost clear. Light golden. Medium carbonation. Pleasant yeasty, malty nose. Taste wise quite savoury (like a lightly grilled slice of toast) with a little soapy finish.
