Commercial Description:
Brewed in the style of the old London Imperial Russian stout to a recipe perfected over 40 years ago, the roast coffee and almost port-like characters make it an excellent nightcap and winter warmer. Voted Champion Stout at the 2001 Australian International Beer awards having previously been Grand Champion Beer in 1988 and 1991.

Bottle. Pours extremely dark ruby, almost black, with a rocky tan head that doesn’t last long. Aroma has lots of toasty malt as well as notes of licorice and coffee. Flavour is pretty similar but with some additional saltiness. Quite full bodied with a thick, almost syrupy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. A very nice stout, vastly superior to the other beers I have tried from this brewery. As good as any other similar stout being produced in Australia.

Black, good beige head. Very little aroma - maybe some malt and alcohol. Slightly syrupy. Deep roasted malts and port sweetness. Finishes with coffee bitterness. Complex dried fruit and cocoa tastes emerge as it warms to room temperature in the glass. Good, but really lacking in aroma

A very good stout. Lacking a tiny bit in the nose, this is a big heady malty choco and coffee stout with a bitter finish. Picked up a 6 pack for about 19 dollars so extra points for value. Very nice

Bottle. A lively pour, black with a huge thick creamy head. A brown head that laced very well. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate and coffee. Deliciously dry and roasty on the palate, strong coffee flavours in the malt, as well as some vinuous qualities.

Black stout, tan head with great lacing. Coffee aroma with a hint of dark rum.Thick substantial body, with mild astringency and a pleasingly dry palate. Dark and roasted malt flavours, with notes of coffee, dried fruit, licorice and whiskey. Sweetness not overpowering, and helps hide the alcohol content.

Bottle. Sweet malty aroma. Very dark with thick light tan head. Pleaseing and not overpowering malty flavour that is slightly roasty. Subtle fruity notes.

...bottle. I was surprised with this beer. Nice tan head, with lacing that lasts. Hard roasted malt notes, low bitterness, and a dry dark fruit\coffee finish. I just picked this up to try a new brew, and it was worth it. True to the style, not too heavy, and masks the alcohol well. Decent stout.
