COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This crushing double IPA, named for the legendary hop that predominates, is one of New Zealand craft brewing’s original palate benders, famous for squeezing every last drop of flavour and aroma from its American namesake. Strong notes of citrus shouldn’t surprise anyone who reads the label. 2022 NZ Beer Awards - Trophy IPA

jmgreenuk (19546) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - DEC 17, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 17, 2022 440ml can at School of Animals, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly hazy medium amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, citrus fruits, light alcohol. The flavour is over moderate bitter, light sweet, with a crisp, malt, big juicy lemon citrus, herbal liqourice, light floral, big warm, slightly boozy, woody hop bitter palate. Over medium bodied with average carbonation.

StuffWine (386) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - NOV 21, 2021
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2021 Poured a hazy radiant amber with dense slightly yellow head that lasted very well. Aroma sweet of mixed citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, slight note of rind. Where the aroma is approachable, taste is a mountainous in scale. An incredible strength of flavour perfectly balances the three elements; sweet predominates then moving to a balance of sour and bitter, with none overpowering the other... all rounded out by big alcohol. I can feel the chest hairs growing. Heavy body, full mouthfeel, finish has no end. This brew so glorious I may have to start believing in the devine.

MOFO (123) - Melbourne (Prev: Chch, NZ), AUSTRALIA - NOV 10, 2020
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2020 10/11/20. Can. 410ml. Poured into glass. I love Citra Hop, and think it helps a lot of beers in combination with Mosiac/Simcoe etc - so nice to just try a Double IPA, but single Hop with this. On the nose - citrus and pine as expected. Some dankness to it. Big lemon hit and minimal carbonation. Rounds out with some biscuity malt. I really enjoyed the single hop experience with Citra. I dont think anyone would necessarily reach for a second in the same evening, but enjoyable and would drink again. Definitely going to take this as inspiration for my next homebrew session and throw Citra into the mix.

Maris (3438) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - SEP 19, 2020
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2020 From a 440ml can on 19/9/2020. Pours a clear deep golden with a medium head. The aroma is dank, grassy, herbal and hoppy. Starts with sweet biscuit malt and citrus and tropical fruit. Finishes with a big tangy citrus hop bitterness, with lemon dominating proceedings. The mouthfeel is stick and syrupy, the carbonation softish. A bold, intense and enjoyable hop bomb with nice sweet bitter balance.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2020 440 mL can. To be honest, this was disappointing. Listed as one of the best beers in NZ, but if I want an IIPA I'd much rather go for a Pernicious Weed or a Hop Zombie. This is competing in the same league, but has nowhere near the same flavour. It's fairly bland.

HKdIPA (1437) - HONG KONG - MAR 14, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2020 Tall can from Countdown outside Christchurch airport, drank in Tekapo. Had alongside another Liberty DIPA, Hoptical Illusion. Aroma is very dank, with tropical pineapple and banana. Taste is huge bitter bite at the front, lemon peel, citrus juice, and sweet tropical fruit. Palate is a little rich, but with enough carbonation. Finish is boozy and lemon bitter. Very straightforward but well done. Would get again.

CacheManyHose (1431) - HONG KONG - MAR 14, 2020
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2020 Big can from Countdown in NZ - drank the first night of our honeymoon, after Mount Cook Hooker Valley hike. Grassy dank hop, a bit West Coast in style, decent malt backbone, some pineapple, tangerine, faint banana fruity esters, booze. Body is medium, crisp and a bit slick. Pretty straightforward DIPA - grassy dank hop and booze, pretty well executed.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2019 Can @ Lake Ruataniwha. Almost clear golden, foamy white head. Lots of piney citrus indeed, grassy too, cleanly malted, light-medium bitter. Medium-firm bodied, medium carbonation.

ads135 (8029) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - SEP 22, 2019
UPDATED: SEP 22, 2019 Impressive double IPA. Surprising how smooth and well balanced it is. Tons of grapefruit, but only a moderate bitter bite. Pick up a bomber in Auckland in 2019.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2019 Poured gold and smells like hop heaven. Lots of citra coming through, very fruity but not too bitter at the end. Incredibly tasty beer.
