Plovmand (12160) - Grindsted, DENMARK - SEP 19, 2021UPDATED: SEP 19, 2021 Can. It pours jet black with a creamy tan head. Deep roasted malty with notes of coffee, chocolate, ash and licorice. Bitter roasted finish. Creamy texture.
ALLOVATE (3849) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 2, 2021UPDATED: AUG 2, 2021 11.2% ABV 2020 vintage.
Hold their stout as one of the best in Oz, so have high hopes for this one. Into a snifter at cellar temperature. Inky black and almost lifeless with good legs around the meniscus. Head tightly compacted, creamy tannish foam that holds for the length and weaves a thinnish lace. Perfumed, heated nose. Supple berry fruitiness atop a lot of dark chocolate mud-cake and ganache, molasses, leather and heated, spicy alcohol. On the palate it is creamy and viscous but not huge in body. Very softly carbonated and well rounded with a lengthy, warming malt finish. Rich and sweet front balanced by meaty umami and fresh baked goodies mid-palate. No bitterness pf malt or smokiness but it has an earthy rawness and level of charbroiled umami to give it depth. A lovely drinking Impy. Not an overly complex ale, but a damned good Imperial. Loved it!! (44cL can, PKD 21/06/2021, The Liquor Shed Jandakot)
LesArgen (1076) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 15, 2020UPDATED: AUG 15, 2020 2019 RIS. I love this beer. Pours like milk and has aromas of cocoa, coffee, licorice, bread and a little grapefruit and pine. The King. Or, should I say, the Czar.
Davros (5042) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2020UPDATED: MAY 1, 2020 2018 edition, but says bottled 31/05/2019. So 1 year old.
Pours black with a large tan head.
Nose shows cocoa, bready malt, slight oxidised notes, toasty malt, and heavy roasted malt.
Flavours include more heavy cocoa and roasted malt, a bit of a liquorice hit, a fair bit of bitterness from the roast but also a decent whack of chocolate syrup-like sweetness to balance it out. A bit more of the oxidised note. Very decadent. Booze is pretty well hidden. Starting to show it's age just a little, wouldn't necessarily recommend any further aging.
Choos (1343) - Taylors Hill, AUSTRALIA - JAN 14, 2020UPDATED: JAN 14, 2020 Aroma: rich dark malt, some mocha and some fruit cake
Appearance: pitch black, tan head
Flavour: rich mocha, some hop
Palate: long mocha finish and metallic hop
jbtomkins (100) - - MAR 17, 2019UPDATED: MAR 17, 2019 Bold black with a tan cap, very deep in flavour. Chocolate, coffee and toasty matched with a slight sweetness which is well balanced
