UPDATED: OCT 14, 2023 Rating number 7,100. 16 ounce can from the brewery. Majestic pour of translucent mahogany brown liquid is topped by a frothy tan head. Subtle roasted malt aroma hints at cocoa and toasted bread. Flavor initially is bittersweet chocolate, black pepper and brewed coffee. Complex with layered flavors that develop as brew warms. Despite the complex flavors, this is a smooth, drinkable beer. Finishes dry and piney. Magnificent. As usual, Hill Farmstead does not disappoint.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2023 Half pour at Pizza Boy. Dark brown pour, silky off-white head, lacing. Light roasty aroma with notes of chocolate. Taste brings a nice light bitter, roasty bite, burnt toast, chocolate, coffee. Smooth, world class.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2023 (Can, 0.473l, thanks tiong, at VastActiv, 20230518) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and dark brown. Aroma had toasted malts, coffee and toffee. Palate was medium bodied and soft with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, toffee, coffee, toasted notes, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, hoppy and bitter. A pleasant and balanced.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2022 Draft at Monks. Opaque chestnut brown pour though clear at the edges. Large frothy khaki head. Unusual Brown Ale. Fuller body than most. Also higher hopped though not overly piny. Well blended notes of coffee, chocolate, and chicory. Additional notes of charcoal, hazelnuts, and anisette. Feels very smooth despite the bigger hop presence. Not my favorite from Hill Farmstead but very well done.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2022 On tap, Pinocchios. Chestnut brown, dark, thin creamy head. Nice lacing. Toasty, creamy, moderate pine hop bite. This is a great brown ale.
