COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The India Pale Ale is a classic variety of British ale designed to survive the rugged sea voyages to India. The use of four malts and four hops combine to create a hop lovers dream. An earthy and ripe fruit aroma makes way for a robust malty middle palate and a long dry finish.

On tap @ Wig & Pen. Pours amber, with off-white head. Aroma of fruits, subtle hops, toffee. Low bitterness, very malty character, a bit biscuitish. Madium bodied, smooth and drinkable.

Tap at the Royal Albert Hotel. Copper coloured with white head. A bit disappointing for a style I love, but it rarely done well. Tart, citrusy hop flavours dominate the front of the palate, rather than earthy hops that would be to style. Similarly it doesn’t seem to have a strong malt background to tie the hops together.

mcberko (41767) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 21, 2016
On tap at Wig & Pen, pours a cloudy dark orangey brown with a medium white head. Aroma brings out English hops and a little caramel. Flavour is very English but fairly pungent in the hop department, with caramel bready notes and a little butterscotch.

Cask at the brewpub. Bright amber. Earthy, caramel, light bitterness, an old school cask ale.

TimE (8459) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 30, 2015
Citrus and pine jump from the nose. Soft body with moderate bitterness. Rounded and balanced, but not all that exciting.

anstei (3818) - SWITZERLAND - APR 20, 2015
Handpump at the brewpub. Pours slightly cloudy dark amber. Banana aroma, ripe and sweet. Taste is also sweet and fruity, but due to the handpump with an usual smooth texture for an IPA.

3.2
RafeAU (628) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 7, 2014
Hand-pulled at the Wig and Pen. Nice English-style IPA with big malt flavours and more subdued hop flavours than American style. I prefer their American-style hoppy brews but this is nice too.

3.4
hawthorne00 (8438) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 7, 2012
Tap. Cloudy amber with a small off white head. Aroma of biscuit caramel gentle Seville orange, earthy yeast. Rich, sweet and fruity with pears, peach and biscuit. Citrus flavours emerge from excessive earthy yeast. Dry finish with lingering bitterness.
