Old school med låg restrain.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2020 2011 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue and capped by a thin beige layer of foam that fades away quickly. The aroma shows notes of dark cocoa, toasted caramel, treacle, and leather over a toffee malt base with loads of dark fruit and bourbon oak. The flavor follows suit with notes of ripe, dark fruit, burnt caramel, and dark cocoa up front to go with the toffee malts and bourbon oak with some boozy warmth on the finish. Full bodied and smooth with no carbonation at this point that leads to a rich, toasted caramel, ripe dark fruit, dark cocoa, and bourbon oak on the warming boozy finish. Definitely some oxidation in there but this has held up incredibly well. Really good barrel aged barley wine. I’ve had fresher bottles and they are better, but this is still surprisingly good.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2018 From notes. Can’t believe I haven’t rated this one yet. Enjoyed at a share up at Huffman Lake with some good dudes the weekend of September 30 through October 01. 12 oz bottle(s), 2011 vintage. Part of a 19 beer blind barleywine tasting. The pour is a little bit of a muddy brown. Medium in color with a thinner ring of off white head and no lace as it vanishes. The aroma is definitely a sharp alcohol up front. There is a lot of oak and booze. The light caramel comes through after that with a bitter malt that comes off pretty messy to me. The flavor is much of the same. There is a good caramel up front, but the barrel integration is definitely hot and overpowering. The oak doesn’t necessarily balance, and it leaves to a bit of messiness. The mouth feel is a medium bodied and more sharply carbonated. It’s quick fading and sharp. Aftertaste is lingeringly boozy with a light caramel on it. It’s really interesting, but not my jam here for a barleywine. 6 4 6 4 14

Bottle at tasting. Muddy brown pour. Aroma of delicious bourbon vanilla, raisin, caramel and booze. Rich taste of luscious bourbon vanilla, buttery caramel fudge, raisin, booze and some malt. This is how a bourbon ba barley wine should be done, fantastic.

Thanks Greg for sharing bottle! 2015 bottle poured into a taster showing lightly translucent dark wooden brown with no head. The nose light bourbon background with light figs and dates. The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated with very prickly alcohol. Strong bourbon forwardness with a light sweetness.
