COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine-style ale alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. Old Numbskull can be enjoyed now or laid down for years to come.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2021 Bottle. A- Malty, hoppy, caramel. A- Brown color, cloudy liquid, no head. T- Bitter, malty, caramel. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Maybe I'm just over it and I know this is a classic beer but quite frankly, it's overrated. I'll admit I much prefer English to American Barleywines but at 5 years+ in age, this was still a bit aggressive. Floral bitter notes and lots of malty caramel. Nothing wrong with it, but just not worth any of the hype. Time to move on.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2020 Big 750cl bottle from Chicago. Cellared for about six or seven years. Pours beautifully with perfect carbonation. Reddish brown with a tan head. Oily texture. Massive taste with lots of dried fruit, toffee, caramel and booziness. Sweet but very full tasting and gentle bitterness. Medium to soft carbonation. Massive mouthfeel and long aftertaste. A brilliant strong ale - very tasty indeed.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2020 Samean ruskea, hieman kuramainen jopa. Tuoksussa on luumua, muuta tummaa hedelmää, toffeeta ja lakritsia. Mausta löytyy selvää makeutta, jota humalointi tasapainottaa. Edelleen luumua ja toffeeta. Loppumaku on vahva ja hieman alkoholinen.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2020 Nie wiem czy odpowiednio schlodzilem i przygotowalem to piwo do dzisiejszego testu. Ciekawe jakie jeszcze beda wrazenia bo mam jeszcze dwa piwka Ale Smith. Doskonale uzupelnienie do resztki 3-letniego dojrzewajacego sera.
