Commercial Description:
The Krotoszyn Brewery has been producing great, handcrafted beers enjoyed by the people of Poland since 1896. Kozlak is the Polish name for the goat of the Tatra Mountains. The label proudly exhibits the profile of this rare indigenous animal. Kozlak Porter is the King of Polish porters. Kozlak pours with a rich, dark chestnut color and a thick, dense head, evidence of its quality ingredients. Up-front, Kozlak exhibits the aromas and flavors of softly roasted barley, which then combine a mingling of aromatic hops, mocha, and licorice. Try Kozlak Porter slightly chilled to bring out its best.

Bottle bought in Poznan. Pitch black colour with a nice light brown head. Aroma of well roasted malts, coffee, bitter hops and liquorice. The flavour is strong, roasty, caramellic, good chocolate, liquorice and coffee. A very tasty brew indeed!

Bottle. Large tan head that was mostly lasting, fine-medium sized bubbles, sparse lacing, no visible carbonation, mostly opaque, and a reddish brown hue. Malty, caramel, licorice, light hops, and some alcohol in the aroma. Flavor was sweet, malty and vinuous. Smooth and dry mouthfeel. Medium body.

Deep red brown clear beer with nice fruity aroma with licorice. Sweet malt and oily mouthfeel, licorice qualities and light smokey peat. Lighter bodied porter. (Sept. 2004) 14 déc: Note from Radek, this bottle may date from 2001! Same label and everything.

Slightly hazed orange/brown liquid with a huge light tan head. Sweet malt and molasses aromas. Touch of vanilla oil and mocha. Initial vanilla sweetness along with a touch of alcohol. Reminds me of bread pudding. I like it, but it really does not seem much like a porter. Lacks the black malt bitterness. More like a strong sweet stout. Weird, but I like it.

Brownish in color with a good sized head of large bubbles. Vanilla, wood, salty hints, malts and chocolate were there in the aroma. Much of the same in the tast. Along with the vanilla, chocolate, malts, saltiness and wood, I got some soy sauce, but not too much. A very pleasing beer to enjoy among friends.

After the Fort Wayne Ale Fest 2004, BigBadBear, Flemdawg, JSquire, Hotstuff, and Silphium came over to my place for a tasting. This was our ninth brew of the evening provided by me. This brew poured a large sized head of fine to medium sized light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles. The body was nearly opaque dark brown with a very nice brown malty aroma. The mouth feel was vinous with dark malt bites to it yet smooth in the finish. The flavor was smooth with vinous malty notes to compliment the vinous overall feeling of the brew.

Now this is a Baltic Porter I can’t say I’m too fond of. It poured very light-colored for a porter, ruddy orange-brown, with a medium light tan head. Had a deep brown sugar/licorice/toast aroma. Flavor was sweet and slightly toasty and caramely with a touch of soy. Sweet with little complexity- the color is deceptive. Too sweet and exhibits little dark malt character.

Dark ruby brown hue with small creamy head and some lace. The aroma has notes of heavy molasses, caramel, mocha, toffee malts; light floral and perfume hops; orange zest, plum, leather yeast ester and a lot of vanilla. The taste display a lot of the same notes found in the aroma, malty sweet but still has balancing fruity and zesty sublime tones. The finish displays an almost vinous nature with mocha, vanilla, oak, and yeast characteristics. Some lingering bitterness and a touch of salty note as well. The mouthfeel is full, oily, sticky, thick. Too bad this Baltic is not around anymore, I would like to try a few more.
