Beautiful beer, nice aroma of coffee, lasting complex flavour, bitter ending. The high alcoholic content is not overwhelming. One of the best beers I ever tried. mickmac (105), Ngunnawal, Australia

Smells and tastes of dried fruit, chocolate and wood. Dense creamy mouthfeel and finishes with a pronounced bitterness. This is world class. madquacker (730), Canberra ACT, Australia

When its available i’ll always grab a few and they just don’t disappoint. So thick that you’d think you were drinking straight tar with a hint of cream. Just excellent all round. wenzeled (10), Australia

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 6, 2005 I feel dudded. The sample I had failed to live up to most of the previous reviews. Black as black can be with a thick and lasting creamy dark coffee brown head. Also had an interesting array of aromas including gravox, ground coffee and a black bean/soy sauce mix. However, the flavour was not very well balanced, and on tasting everything just seemed to compete - all the jumbled up flavours and aromas climbing over each other trying to force there way down my throat. Add to this an annoying tingling sensation that burned it’s way into my tongue, and it’s crashed it’s way down the ratings scale. However, I promise to head down the Hume and taste this one at the pub, and re-rate it then.
