COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like the lyrics to Dexys’ famous song, rye refuses to be forgotten. 2016 sees the return of this limited edition brew. Plenty to sing and hop to, we’ve taken a classic American pale ale and added some backing singers to create a beer with a darkly roasted, robust body. Rich chocolate and caramel malts mixed with spicy rye and Amarillo hops. You’ve grown, so grown.

Taste: Spicy rye notes with a brooding full flavoured dark malt base are balanced with fruity American hops adding citrus character and lingering bitterness. Unfiltered and made to last.
Look: Black with a deep red hue and a light tan collar of foam.
Aroma: Rich dark malt, spicy rye malt and US citric hop aroma.
Try With: Classic lamb shanks.
Hops: Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra
Malt: Choc wheat, Cararye, Rye malt, Pale malt

A very agreeable hoppy, fruity, (mildly) spiced, chocolatey, black IPA! Looks great, smells great with the taste and palate to match. I’m a fan (just in case you wondered)

(Keg at Bier-Bier, 20170626) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, fruitiness and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, liquorice, sweetness, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. A rather sweet, hoppy and burnt brew. Not really my thing.

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, liquorice, tropical fruit, chocolate, roasted malts, hops and citrus.

Appearance:
Opaque dark brown/black beer with a slight/medium beige/brown head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit, liquorice, tropical fruit and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts, hops and citrus.

Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Loads of tropical fruit and liquorice, with everything a black IPA needs. Perfect appearance and a great palate as well, but the aroma could have been stronger.
